I am truly amazed that a middle aged American man has no clue that this is a cover song of Simon & Garfunkel

They are saying that when it was written in the 60's it was a warning. Now Disturbed version is the version that shows they are mad because people did not heed the warning. WOW The words.

This song to me is the definition of perfection. I’ve listened to it 100’s of times and get chills each and every time. At times bringing me to tears. I love watching reactions to it and yours was great. Glad you did this one! Simon & Garfunkel did this in a folk song style, and that was beautiful. But David Draymond puts fire and power to it that brings the lyrics to a whole other level. The Simon & Garfunkel version was the warning to what technology could bring, silencing the people. But David’s version is the war cry to wake everyone up.

I grew up on this song, my mom wore this album out. When I first heard there was a remake I asked myself, why? Why would anyone want to attempt to do this song. Then I listened and I found out why! This version is in my opinion better than the origninal and that's saying a lot. Great reaction!

Simon and Garfunkle's original was more folksy, reIeased in 1964, seemed to refer to not communicating, perhaps how television was affecting people. Disturbed's cover, with David Draiman, is utterly haunting and a phenomenal rendition that still makes us look at hiw we do not communicate. Onecreactor saud that he felt there was a hint of hope in the video where the instruments were coming across the waterway to the musical notes. I have listened to dozens of reactions to this, I cannot get enough!

Simon and Garfunkel were amazing. David Draiman and Disturbed own this song now. Paul Simon told him that and posted Disturbed's version to his website. They say Simon and Garfunkel was a warning. Disturbed is ANGER for not heeding that warning. Far cry from the folk song from 1964. Loved your reaction.

Disturbed is a heavy metal band popular since the mid 90s. David Draiman was Jewish Cantor in his younger years. He has a very unusual kind of grit for heavy metal vocals. Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song in 1964 as a warning. It was a faster rhythmic folk song. Disturbed’s version shows the anger that the warning wasn’t heeded. Paul Simon was so impressed with this 2015 cover, he contacted the band told them that they now owned it!

For heaven's sake play the whole thing before the critique! Song was written in 1964 by Paul Simon. He called David Draiman and said that's how it should be sung. Simon and Garfunkel recorded it mid 60s as a warning in folk song style. Disturbed made it a lament!

There is also an amazing live performance of this by Disturbed from the Conan show. The singer had a serious cold but still delivered a truly epic performance. This video u reacted to shows the ark delivering musical instruments to the thousands standing on the distant shore. Delivering the possibility of music to be shared versus a boat arriving filled with an army and weapons. I found that something worth noting to end the video. Mark

Simon & Garfunkel composed and released this in 1964. Disturbed (David Draiman) just took it up a couple of notches!! Interesting fact: David who is Jewish went to many Orthodox schools growing up and was trained as a cantor (who is a Jewish musician trained vocally) to lead the congregation. Also David performed this live on the Conan show and it was equally brilliant!!!!!☮❤Sea Point, Cape Town

Simon and Garfunkel was a warning. Tv was coming out, radios were distracting, then the age of technology, videos, cell phones drugs. David's version is the response to the original song. Nobody took those warnings , families were split, kids were to busy to sit down to the dinner table. Respect went out the door, human life means nothing, all anyone wants to do is to kick God out the door and destroy humanity. Bright lights and big city is the way. People want to be stars and be under the neon lights and throw everything else a way.

  • @rebeccasunnybrook3709

Great reaction. As others have said this is the definitive cover of any song. Disturbed took the original and brought the message and the emotion up 100 notches. They also did any an amazing cover of Genesis' song Land of Confusion. I think you'd like that one too.
For everyone amazed this man never heard of Simon and Garfunkel it's not as strange as it may seem. My husband grew up in a household where nothing but country music ever played. When we met he was in his late teens and listened to country and a rock station in his car but they played harder rock. He never heard any of the great 60's and 70's folk/rock or pop songs until I played them when I was with him.
Even stranger to some of us is the fact my husband never saw a single Disney movie, watched Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, The Electric company or any of the other shows and movies kids normally did in our age group.
Just like with music you are a product of your environment and only learn if you seek out new things/experiences.

I have very much enjoyed your reactions. Allow me this one criticism...suppress your urge to comment every 2 lines of a song. Give your viewing audience some credit for being able to hear and digest the meaning of lyrics on our own. Part of experiencing a song and performance is to listen to it. Feel the transitions. It order to do this, there must be flow. One simply cannot do that breaking down every 2nd verse. I have viewed over 3500 yt reactions to Dimash performances alone in the last 6 years. Yes we all understand "reaction" videos. Yes we all understand copyright issues. My main enjoyment from viewing reaction videos by yt reactors is to witness the enjoyment of another person getting to experience a performance I am already familiar with. To vicariously relive my own first experience again with another human being and to enjoy it with them. At 62 yo, I dont need life coaching or vocal coaching or interpretation of song meanings or lyrics. I'm not alone in feeling this from reading thousands of comments over the years as well. Hope this wasn't taken by you too harshly, as I have already said, I enjoy your comments. Some performances are simply too good to make tons of comments thru and are best just enjoyed. Comments can be made after experiencing them. Filters can be added over the videos. A very popular reactor has found great success giving an intro, viewing a performance in its entirety with zero interruption, then viewing again with breakdown and analysis. All certainly dont have to follow this formula but it has given him millions of views. I'm sorry it's just painful to me to watch a song chopped up every 2 lines, no matter how poignant the commentary. Mark

I must admit I will not remember much on the first listen to comment at the end. That is the only reason I break it down. I will say most seem to like the chopping but some don't. What would you do if you were me?

    • @debb481
      @debb481 ปีที่แล้ว

@@frontrowchaos4597 Some reactors write some of their thoughts above the music video and only discuss the really important aspects. Some make notes and then go back after the performance. There are ways to interrupt less. From the comments here I think you are downplaying the amount of folks who dont like constant interruptions. Most people just leave without saying anything (and dont return for other reactions) but, in spite of that, you still have quite a few people here who are expressing dismay. Also, in emotionally powerful songs, like this one, less is probably more. Julia Nilon reviewed this song with notes above the performance and just a few interruptions. Really recommend you look at her way of doing it.

First, here's the link to the history of the song...

OMG, the tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed performing their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". I'm 75 and was 15 when they released one of the most popular classic songs of our time during the 60's. It is amazing how relevant it is today, actually I feel it is even more relevant than ever in so many different ways. I've spent days since listening and seeing the many channels and each of their reactions and have 😢 almost every time. It's funny that more males have gotten teary-eyed than females, just an observation.
Also, be sure to watch their live Conan performance.
By the way David Draiman was really sick for the Conan live performance and I heard he was not pleased with his performance, being the perfectionist that he is I can understand why he felt that way. However, the production as a whole was amazing and his performance was EXCEPTIONAL! I loved it. So POWERFUL and EMOTIONAL!

David and his brother were trained Jewish cantors. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer.
Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about.
The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them...
Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it.
Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music.

This is not a religious song. It came out of the 60s and was counter-culture. If anything it would be warning about religion taken too far and oppressing people.
Many see Simon and Garfunkel's version as the warning and Disturbed's version, 50 or more years later as the anger that the warning wasn't heeded.

Hey, I live in small-town Appalachian VA. Some European country songs to find are definitely some Irish ones like 5 AM at an Irish weddin, or other Irish songs from teh bog. Either way no problem attall attall. Or an egg in a nest and a nest on a twig and a twig on a branch and a branch on a tree and a tree in a hole and a hole in the bog and the bog down in the valleyo
(Compared to my area's music they would be kind of like bluegrass instead of country, but i can't very well compare myself to an Irish person)

David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! ...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction.

Great reaction, I was surprised you dont know the original!
I dont know much about country, it's not particularly popular here. But there is one guy / song that qualifies as country I think, that was a big hit here in the Netherlands. The artist is Denny Vera and he graduated the same class in music collage as Floor Jansen from Nightwish. They were classmates.
The song is called Rollercoaster and was number one here, it's also very popular ob funerals (so yes heavy subject again)
Here's a link to a great love performance of it; if you wish to react: th-cam.com/video/cWe4e0_UmIc/w-d-xo.html

European country is usually bluegrass based. One that I think you can show on TH-cam (the other's literally have F*ck Y*u as their titles - haha) is Rattleshack. Their song Dead man's Creek is on YT.
North American country music bands are most popular in Europe. I would love to see more come from outside North America and Australia, but for now the bluegrass scene is what I've seen the most in Europe.
As for Disturbed's cover of this song, it's my favorite version. I love the lead singer's voice in all they do, mellow to heavy. If you enjoyed this message and tone you may like Shinedown's song, "45".

Stefan Eicher is a singer from Swiss Germany. He sings a song in swiss german (only about 5 million people speak that language). He's not a "pure" Swiss German in the sense he's quite marginal. But nevertheless very well know in Swiss Germany. But also in the French speaking part of Switzerland, as well as in France and most french speaking countries. Hemmige was written and sung by Mani Matter. It was only known from Swiss German by then. Stefan Eicher brought that song to other parts of Europe... Now back to your reaction ;)
