  • This is the second of the two Mercedes Benz that I bought together, after the blue one (now named Pita) got off to a very difficult start, will this one behave better or worse?
Hit the subscribe button for the next installments of these very interesting old cars and please leave me a comment and let me know if you enjoyed the video!

Thanks Scott that's very nice of you to say! Who is this Vice Grip Garage? I'm joking I love Derek he's a legend - A dream of mine is one day to have him come to Europe and do a team resurrection on something big and i'll go do one in the states and drive it to a port to be shipped back here, one day maybe!

Great fun. I've driven nothing but old W124 230e's for the last eighteen years. They're not fast or exciting but they look pretty, they're comfy and tough as old boots. This year I bought a 230CE for a change. Regretting it already 😂. Best of luck with yours!

Hi Ben. I don't know if you know, but Mercedes have a double catch mechanism on the bonnet hinges, which allows the bonnet to be opened pretty much up to vertical for when doing maintainance. A little round peg/ button on the hinge. Press them in,and the hinge catch disengades allowing the bonnet to open much higher. It's an absolute blessing for the old back ! Enjoy ! Dave

I absolutely think it's brilliant that you tale these old classics and not only get them running , you then get them cleaned up and try to polish them right up and make them Road worthy and it's extremely amazing that they all seem to run awesome and it make me wonder just how insane it is that they went derelict in a wrecking yard somewhere or sat in an old barn or shed for 10 to 30 years ! Sad that people just don't want to take a minute to figure it out and to have it fixed so throw it away !?!?! I'm sorry but some of these cars are worth a pretty penny after you spent a week or so in them , ay ! Great for you though 😮😂 people here in the States do the same thing to their cars here to so........

I've just subscribed to this channel after being impressed with the very funny 'Austin Ambassador A reg' rescue video. That Merc is a very nice car. These smooth, fast Mercedes coupes are very rare now. It's also very similar to the 'Bismerc' that used to be on the Number 27 channel.

Yeah we get absolutely screwed on any car that is less than 30 years old ! Her being 1990 she will be €56 now !
The VRT here is €200 but because of Brexit we would be charged 23% of whatever the Revenue deem to be the cars value - not what you paid for it which would be fairer - for that Merc to get registered here would be probably 2-3000 - They don't make things easy here

Mr T, I was sitting here willing it to start. It sounded like a misfire due to a plug lead on the wrong plug. Who am I to tell you ?

Annoyingly easy to spot in the video, much harder from the car side, got there in the end though!

@@tastyclassics quite agree. When your trying to put content into a video, I shouldn't think its easy. Enjoy all your videos though and, the dialogue.

I had a few Mercedes...incl a 1992 , 230E auto, like your sample. These engines are virtually indestructible.....especially these older cars. Over engineered, long before AI started to engineer parts for vehicles, that are guaranteed fail.
You never really drove until you drove a Mercedes or Alpha Romeo❤

Hi Ben. You can roll an auto in N, but for mechanical sympathy just not very fast. Pushing's fine.

Hi there, I have been watching your videos and I will make it clear I am not here to judge, a few bits of tools I think will help you immensely help you with your diagnosis of vehicles, get yourself a cylinder compression tester and a sniffer kit for the cooling system to check for exhaust gasses in the coolant which will tells you if you have a head gasket leak or a cracked cylinder head. I have been a mechanic all my life and I also use to teach college students motor mechanics. I have also had my own very successful garage business. I get that you have your head screwed on and you have a keen to learn. You also make a lot of hard work for yourself the way you diagnose problems. I wish you the best of luck and success with your channel
