Eddie Singleton (Shrine Records) telephone Interview by Andy Rix - 12th May 1989.
มุมมอง 4673 ปีที่แล้ว
"The 1980s witnessed the emergence of Shrine Records on the rare soul scene as an increasing number of titles became prominent in DJ sets. The reaction from the dance floor was matched by collectors who worked hard to obtain the elusive 45s and, over time, a mystique grew around the label given that so little was known about it. In 1986 Derek Pearson published the first Shrine Records discograp...

Northen soul keep the thath
Thank you for preserving this precious music. The Miami sound vanished overnight...what happened? Helene Smith is a treasure, and Betty Wright was the nicest star I ever had the privilege to meet. R.I.P. Miss B.
Thanks for an informative post ❤ John Barnett revisited September 11. 2024 ❤❤❤
Gilly still a legend was talking to him a few weeks at a event. Top bloke
Finally, a documentary with William "Little Beaver" Hale, if there was ever the use of the term "underrated" justified, it's his. All his Cat albums with songs like Joey, Concrete Jungle, Party Down, Let The Good Times Roll, Party Times, Groove on e.t.c. should have been way bigger than they were. But then again, almost nobody from this scene really made it big. Clarence Reid didn't invent Blowfly out of a creative move but to finally make some money. And again, a lot of the musicians from this documentary played on those albums.
What happened to the soul archive?
This is my grandfather so thank you so much for sharing. My children and I are able to hear his voice for the 1st time. He died before we got the chance to meet him ❤️ Thank you for this.
Great interview Andy, Tommy Knight Don't Bring Back Memories is absolutely brilliant!!
Whoever uploaded this is a proper soul connoisseur. Thank you. Peter🎉
Brilliant. "the old guard protecting the old guard" great comment.
Fab. So many happy memories. Thanks for uploading. KTF👍
Thank you for this beautiful documentary.
Name of sound 2 this video please gilly! BRAD. 😁👍
Problem when its to packed with no room on the floor, you just end up shuffling about.
Class pure class 👏 what a book😊
This looks like a cross between a gay disco and a miners’ changing room.
Adam modern soul great tracks great mix something for every one
As Rob mentioned Peter Youngs "soul cellar" on Capital Radio at the time, it started as 30 minutes and eventullay was 1 hour long. Pete had great jingles from the 60s on the show , and always plugged the Kent albums as they were released at the time . Probably helped promote them a lot!
Richard Barnes, who did the Mods book from 79 , is a friend of Pete Townsend .Hes been interviewed a few times over the years for different docs
Brilliant tracks 👍
Random observation but can’t help but notice how very few people were wearing glasses. 🤷♂️😁
Those were great days. Northern Soul at it's peak of popularity. I went to Wigan Casino for years and yes it had its faults, but on the whole it was absolutely great!
some of these artists had a renaissance in the NORTHERN SOUL REVIVAL IN THE 70s
What happened to the show did i miss something?
I'm 57 now born and grew up in leicester. Loved my night's out in the 80s but never knew anything about the northern soul scene. I listen to the music now.
Brilliant thanks Charlotte 😊
Brilliant 😊
Absolutely amazing
❤SOUL❤
Very interesting, I had not heard of the label before, not surprised the music was popular with the Northern Soul crowd! Some great singers and musicians. The tune of the last record playing over the credits at the end sounded very much like the Jackson Five's hit I Want You Back 😀
I Remember well, went to everyone, I was only 21, then, great times, and still keeping the Faith.✊🇬🇧
Beautiful just beautiful....my love for music....I need all the CDS...
8:26 … origins of breakdancing perhaps? 👀 🤔
Great great great documentary!!! Never been covered. Man, Betty Wright is the queen!!!
Every since I seen this documentary, I’m hooked on this music, thank you for showing me this music ❤
Amazing 💕💯🎤🤩💫💋👑 #nowwatching
The real, true story.
I really enjoyed this documentary Johnny had to follow his heart but I wish she would have followed. Clarence, they would have been a Big sensatincl Globally. Kudos to miss Eileen Smith, and the world loves Betty Wright.
Some good gear going about that night.
oh yes brings back memories out of my head whizzing dancing all night what a great time we all had
Good interview.

Great show as always!Lenny Welsh," One Hundred Pounds of Pain," on Mainstream Records( MRL5560) is one that I think will be to your taste? On a par with Baby Boy and," Keep On Keeping On," by NF(Nolan)Porter?
Absolutely brilliant..❤️✊😜

A superb interview- totally engrossing!
I stumbled upon this video today and WOW! Fantastic! Terrific to see a couple of young fans engaging with the legends that helped shape the scene over the decades and capture these important personal testaments on record. This is an important resource for future fans/generations. Great job guys- a totally engrossing fascinating 90 minutes.
WOW! A fantastic documentary that recounts the story of a small but important element of the Miami music scene. So glad I discovered this video!
