[TUI Belgium] Cockpit view Landing at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport (LYS/LFLL)
Cockpit view of the landing at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport (LYS/LFLL).
Flight: OLB to LYS.
Aircraft type: B737-800W / Boeing 737 Next Generation
This flight, is a so called triangle flight. We started our duty at Lille (FR), flew to the beautiful airport of Olbia. After a short turnaround, we flew our Boeing 737-800 to the airport of Lyon (FR).
In Lyon we had our lay-over. I really the area of Lyon, it gives me the real holiday feeling!

[A330] Thunderstorm overhead Northern Africa
มุมมอง 2893 ปีที่แล้ว
Thunderstorms are always impressive. This particular CB could be seen a from a few hundred miles away. It was quite "active" and it is never boring and very impressive to watch. The energie within those cumulonimbus (CB) clouds is massive. We therefore try to avoid them. They can develop very quickly (20 minutes).

Watch Yme taking the glider into the sky precisely during sunset. Flights around sunset always are food for spectaculair views. In the Netherlands, night VFR is not allowed for gliders. But we may fly until 15 minutes after sunset.
Emergency Winch Launch Failure at 80m (Training)

Practicing a high winch launch failure during stormy and gusty weather. I (PIC) filmed from the front seat and the glider was controlled from the rear seat. During winch launch failure training we disconnect the cable during climb to simulate a cable failure. The glider pilot then fly’s an adapted circuit to get the glider on the ground safely. As you can see, the weather was quite gusty and es...

    Man I wish there was more on short take-offs! Like ski-jumpers, paragliders, skateboarders, or anyone else actually putting themselves on the line for pure pleasure. Big kudos to medics b.t.w. doing the same to save others crossing it involuntarily. And I am sure pilots appreciate their privilege of training and sunny skies above the clouds every day at work!

    The planes are usually twin otters which are good for landing on short runways. The twin otters land on Saba using only half the runway there. Also, the pilots take care not to permit too much luggage. If you are on St. Maarten and want to take the 15 minute fun plane hop to Saba to enjoy the unforgettable beauty up on the mountain there and the friendly people (and tasty food!) (I hear the diving is amazing but have not yet tried it myself) but have a lot of luggage you can stay overnight on St. Maarten, enjoy the sandy beach there, and then take a ferry boat to Saba from there. The hike up to the top of Saba is not difficult at all, and toward the top is an enchanting rainforest that is the experience of a lifetime.

  • @starman633

    Look at the anemometer during the approach, it is only 2-3 knots from stall speed with flaps fully extended. It is the only way to land considering the short length of the runway.

    years ago a group of buddies and i visited Saba on a scuba trip. we constantly tell stories of this landing. I should mention that unlike the video here, we flew over on a totally old, rickety plane. the cockpit was separated from the cabin by a shower curtain. the plane came to a full stop SUPER close to the cliff drop off at the end of the runway.

    Opening the airbrakes is NOT dangerous in a turn. It is flying too slowly close to the ground which will kill you.

    • @JorenAvi
      @JorenAvi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When confronted with a high workload situation, opening the air brakes in a turn without proper adjustment of your nose attitude can cause low airspeed. Therefor we teach them not to open them further in a turn.

    • @david3599
      @david3599 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JorenAvi Understood. So allowing airspeed to get low is dangerous, which can occur if the pilot is distracted due to high workload, one of the reasons for which could be trying to do too much at once rather than fly the aeroplane. Opening the airbrakes in a turn by itself is not dangerous, which was my original point. Sometimes it might be necessary to do this to ensure a safe approach if too high. Our teaching is you do what is necessary and safe to achieve a safe approach rather than exclude viable options.

    • @JorenAvi
      @JorenAvi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@david3599 I agree with you, that’s it not dangerous if done properly. Training standard here is that we don’t want them to do it. When they have their licenses, I’m a fan of teaching them there are more ways ;)
