I owned Hudson Hawk and Robocop 3. Extremely challenging for me as a kid. Many hours of pure frustration, but I completed both. Hudson Hawk came with a baseball cap in the box. Robocop 3 required a dongle to play it.
Thanks for your comment! Completely agree - RoboCop 3 really pushed the technical limits for its time, but that difficulty was brutal! It’s definitely one of those games that tested players’ patience and skills. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts - glad you enjoyed the video! 🕹️💪
I was an Amstrad CPC owner and i used to love ocean games no matter what they were ,they were some of the best games i played but some i never got to play
Thanks for watching! Ocean games really had a way of drawing you in, didn’t they? The Amstrad CPC had some absolute gems, and it’s awesome to hear that you enjoyed so many of them! Hopefully, this video brought back some good memories, and maybe even introduced you to a few you missed. If you haven’t subscribed yet, feel free to join for more retro gaming nostalgia!
This is a great topic and you've covered it really well. It's worth noting that in most of these Oceans titles, you often got 2 or 3 different game play styles in the one game. My favourite remains Batman, with Robocop coming close second. Love this video. Great work. Will share it on the Perth Amiga user group.
Thanks so much for your comment, 005Agima! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. You’re absolutely right - Ocean did an impressive job mixing gameplay styles in a single game, which kept things fresh and exciting! Batman and RoboCop are top picks for sure, such iconic games with plenty of variety. Thanks for sharing it with the Perth Amiga user group - much appreciated! 😊
Personally I have a real soft spot for Jurassic Park! I think it captured the atmosphere of the film well, looks and sounds good, and I like it when games mix up the game styles between 2D and 3D levels. And I just love dinosaurs so Jurassic Park is one of my favourite franchises.
I have played so many of the movie tie-ins from Ocean on my Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️ - except LETHAL WEAPON, COOL WORLD and DARKMAN 😹. And to be honest, these are some of my favorite games on the Commodore 64 Amiga: - BATMAN: THE MOVIE - PLATOON - TOTAL RECALL - HUDSON HAWK - HOOK - ROBOCOP 2 - ROBOCOP 3 - THE UNTOUCHABLES - NIGHTBREED: THE INTERACTIVE MOVIE A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
Thanks so much for your comment! 😊 It’s always great to hear from fellow fans of Ocean’s classic movie tie-ins on the Amiga 500 - and what a brilliant list of favourites you’ve got there! Batman: The Movie, Platoon, and RoboCop are all iconic, and it’s amazing how these games still hold up. If you ever get the chance to try Lethal Weapon, Cool World, or Darkman, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for tuning in from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮 - happy gaming! 🕹️🎮
Thanks so much, @per-olaeriksson2589! The Addams Family is such a classic - glad you had fun with it too! If you’re not already subscribed, feel free to join for more retro gaming memories. Really appreciate the support!
Always made me laugh the speech at the intro of Robocop, especially the very Irish Directive 2, ‘Protect the Innocent’. Funnily enough, many years after the photo of the Ocean staff at the start was taken I worked at an altogether different company in Manchester with the shorter guy on the front row wearing the thin tie (Lee Cowley). Nice chap.
Doesn't sound Irish at all to me. Doesn't sound anything like Weller either though. No idea why they didn't just sample the sound clip from the movie, would have been much better. They managed it on the Spectrum even.
Thanks for the great comment! The accent in Robocop's intro always brings a smile, I was never sure why they didn't just sample it from the movie! It's also amazing that you crossed paths with Lee Cowley! Those connections from back in the Ocean days make these games feel even more special. If you’re not already subscribed, feel free to join - I’d love to keep sharing these nostalgic gems with you!
Must have sold 30-40 of those Amiga packs personally when working in a computer shop during the late 80's and early 90's. So man fond memories of those times.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the classic 'aarrgghh!' moment on Rambo III - it’s definitely a memorable part of the game! If you haven’t already, please consider subscribing for more fun retro game moments like these!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video! Darkman is definitely an interesting one - worth checking out if you’re up for a bit of Ocean’s movie game quirks! Hope you get the chance to give it a go sometime. Appreciate the comment! 😊
RC 3 had Oceans new 'hacker proof' system where you had to plug a coded joystick plug into port 2 to play the game, it got hacked after 2 weeks on sale 😮. Fun fact.
IIRC, It was just a shift register and XOR gate combined so that a shifted out value of bits would give a certain pattern when read back in. Pretty simple, but even then, easily bypassed in the code itself.
Ocean and Cannon Films existed at the same time...Both spitting out movies and games left and right. Anyway. Ocean still had some good games now and then. Ocean also had more top of the shelve music composers than the others. Martin Galway and many others.
Thanks for watching! Ocean and Cannon Films really did have that rapid-fire approach to movies and games, didn’t they? And you’re so right - Ocean’s lineup of composers, like Martin Galway, really set their games apart with some legendary soundtracks. Glad you enjoyed those tunes too! If you haven’t already subscribed, feel free to join for more retro gaming nostalgia!
Thanks for watching! The choice of carnival-style music in The Untouchables is definitely an interesting one - it adds a quirky twist to the game! Maybe they were going for something unexpected to make it memorable. If you haven’t already subscribed, feel free to join for more retro gaming oddities and fun discussions
Great video from the powerhouse that was ocean. Think in platoon the machine gun sample sound was knicked from the pulse rifle in aliens U missed navy seals which was pretty good Think generally ocean faired better in quality on the 8 bit machines , they seem to struggle with the higher quality expected for a game selling at 25 quid
Thanks for your comment! Ocean was indeed a powerhouse, and it’s impressive how they managed to bring in those iconic sounds - spot on about the machine gun sound in Platoon resembling the pulse rifle from Aliens! And great spot on Navy Seals, I’d actually forgotten about that one! It was another solid movie game that really captured the action. I think you’re right about Ocean’s strengths on the 8-bit machines too - the jump to the Amiga came with higher expectations, especially with games selling at the price they did, I guess some of them were worth it when they were released under the Hit Squad! Appreciate the insights and thanks for watching! 🎮😊
I've always wondered whether they couldn't get the rights to the cast of Untouchables except for Kevin Costner. They were all blacked out on the cover and De Niro was removed entirely.
Thanks so much for watching and for your insight! It’s always been a bit of a mystery why only Kevin Costner's likeness was clear, while the rest of the cast was blacked out. It might have been a licensing or rights issue, as you mentioned, especially given De Niro's complete absence. If you’re not already subscribed, please do so - I’d love to keep sharing these retro gaming discoveries with you!
It makes me wonder with some of the early titles like Red Heat, whether it would be made to look as good as possible for the magazine of photos and the back of the game box but then put in the disk and realise how bad it actually plays 😂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! The C64 version of Platoon definitely had some incredible music, and I can see why you’d prefer it. Each platform had its own unique vibe, but there’s something special about the C64 sound. Thanks for being a subscriber - I really appreciate it! Looking forward to bringing more retro comparisons your way!
Thanks for watching! Those 3D levels in Jurassic Park were such a standout feature at the time, weren’t they? It really added a new dimension to the game (pun intended)! If you haven’t subscribed yet, feel free to join for more fun retro game insights
Except for Batman, and maybe Robocop (though still mediocre compared to the arcade), these we're all typical licensed movie, euro jank. Unpolished gameplay, difficulty and bad controls. Robocop 3 was impressive technically, but still not very good. The disappointment, buying T2 after watching the movie, was devastating. Luckily I was able to return it. It was the last time I ever payed for a movie licensed game. 😂
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Licensed games definitely had their ups and downs, and it’s fair to say some titles didn’t quite live up to the movies. Still, there’s a certain charm to them we can laugh about now! And hey, Batman and Robocop did have their moments. I hope this video brought back some memories, good or bad! If you’re not already subscribed, feel free to join for more retro gaming nostalgia - the highs and the lows
Some of these, like Darkman and Red Heat, were terrible. I liked Batman The Movie, but I could never beat the driving segment without using unlimited time. Maybe it was a problem with my pirated copy, but I always ran out of time, no matter how perfectly I drove.
Thanks for your comment! I have to say, I quite enjoyed driving the Batmobile, but you’re right - the whole game was seriously challenging! Some of those segments, like the driving part, really tested our patience. Darkman and Red Heat definitely had their quirks, Red Heat was pretty awful! Appreciate you sharing your experiences - it’s always good to know others went through the same struggles! 🚗💥😅
@@RetroGamesRediscovered I liked all the parts of Batman The Movie, with the exception of the middle, puzzle part where you have to figure out the proper products. It really felt out of place. With practice, i was able to complete the first level without cheating, but I could never finish the driving level. I've watched videos of people playing it without cheating and they crash a few times, miss turns, and yet they still make it. I played the hell out of that level, until I could do it almost perfectly, hitting maybe one car and only missing 1-2 turns, but I'd always run out of time. I did a completely unscientific analysis, where I drove at top speed, watched how much the distance went down compared to the timer, and concluded that the time limit was too short. It's possible that my copy was PAL (even though it seemed to run correctly in NTSC) and maybe the timer was counting down faster than it should have been. I've been meaning to test it again under emulation, with an untouched IPF disk image of an original, but I never seem to get around to it.
I've heard, but I can't find any evidence to support it, that Jack Nicholson rejected his Joker sprite three times before he would sign off on it being used.
Thanks for sharing that! That’s such an intriguing bit of trivia about Jack Nicholson and his Joker sprite. I’ve heard similar stories about him being very particular, but I haven’t found any solid evidence either. It would be fascinating if it’s true
Thanks for watching and sharing your take! Rambo III definitely has that classic 80s action vibe, even if it's not everyone's top pick. And I agree - RoboCop II brought some fun improvements over the original. Appreciate you being a subscriber! Looking forward to bringing you more of these retro game reflections!
I owned Hudson Hawk and Robocop 3. Extremely challenging for me as a kid. Many hours of pure frustration, but I completed both. Hudson Hawk came with a baseball cap in the box. Robocop 3 required a dongle to play it.
Robocop 3 was technically amazing but the difficulty curve on it was crazy after about an hour of play missions were near impossible.
Thanks for your comment! Completely agree - RoboCop 3 really pushed the technical limits for its time, but that difficulty was brutal! It’s definitely one of those games that tested players’ patience and skills. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts - glad you enjoyed the video! 🕹️💪
At least Robocop 3 had more than hour of something to play whereas for example Terminator 2 just didn't :)
I was an Amstrad CPC owner and i used to love ocean games no matter what they were ,they were some of the best games i played but some i never got to play

yes, the infamous dongle which sometimes didn't fit

Addams family might be the best Super Mario experience you can get on Amiga. While it isn't as good, it is good nevertheless.

Thanks for your comment, was an interesting game but wasn't published by Ocean software. The Amiga version was published by Capstone Software.

Rambo III is a rubbish movie, but game is somewhat likable. Also, Robocop II is a rare example of sequel being better that the first part.
Rambo III rubbish? Give over! Admittedly, it's the weakest of the five but still plenty of action to keep you entertained.
Thanks for watching and sharing your take! Rambo III definitely has that classic 80s action vibe, even if it's not everyone's top pick.
