Enjoyed your reaction. You or your editor has a good feel for what to leave in and what to leave out in the cut down. Easy subscribe. The main theme of this film is one of my all time favorites. “I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin' around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happenin' at the same time.” The other day I was going for one of my daily walks and thinking upon something similar. I live in a pretty urban/suburban area. But there's this series of parks in a town close by that creates a refuge of nature in between it all. So walking through it really got me to thinking about the juxtaposition between the view of the universe based on intelligent design vs the idea of emergent order. I can really see both perspectives within nature - the idea that there's too much perfect beauty there for there to be anything else but an intelligent design, or a creator. But I can also see how it could all come about via emergent order and circumstance/odds & chance. And either way that I look at it I find it to be enthrallingly fascinating. and even more-so, the fact that both can seem just as plausible and that both could exist simultaneously is extremely exciting and enticing. And I love how they captured that notion in this film. That there's this character who by his nature just kind of exists in this world without any real sense of intent due to his simple nature. but at the same time winds up being an the epicenter of all these historical events. And that it could all be by chance but also simultaneously all part of a grander design. Its just such a wonderful paradox that makes me feel so much excitement for life in general.

Aw, hon - films aren't there to satisfy the viewers, or give them what they want. They're there to tell stories. All kinds of stories, in all kind of ways. Sometimes, it's a story about about a broken man taking down a broken system while educating the woman he loves about her own power. We got all the backstory, for both of them, that we need. And just because the two main characters are a man and a woman, *_THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY HAVE TO GET TOGETHER!!!_* _That_ is one of the most tired, played out, stupid tropes that continues to exist.

Making a sequel to this movie was unnecessary, and a blatant money grab. I'll be shocked if the sequel has the heart/substance, qaulity acting, writing and over production value of this orginal movie. The sequel is likley poorly written relying mostly on goofy over done CGI effects and is full of historical inaccuracies for ancient Rome.

The only problem with it is that it's pro-military and anti-dissident, so it fails to depart from the norm with US films that feature the US military or its paraphernalia in any way, that the US military has script approval control, and they must always portray the US military and its doings positively in the opinion of the Pentagon media office. It's a big tear-jerker, but it is also a fairy-tale, because life just doesn't work out that well for anyone who isn't born rich in the USA. The fate of the educationally subnormal young men who were scooped up into the Army to make up the numbers for Secretary of State McNamara during the Vietnam war to hide the effect US military casualties on the Army's force strength, was early death and dismemberment in most cases. Such stories are commonplace in Vietnam war memoirs such as Chickenhawk by Robert Mason, that they weren't able to defend themselves or adapt because they didn't really understand what they were supposed to be doing and lacked situational awareness and danger sense.

This was a great and touching reaction. Great job! So . . . there's a great Robin WIlliams movie that no one has ever reacted to, which I think is a very sad truth. One of the best performances by Williams with some fantastic supporting actors . . . and that movie is called The World According to Garp. Interesting trivia: the actor who played Chet in Dead Poets, is Colin Irving . . . who is the son of John Irving, the author of The World According to Garp. Please please please react to this one. I'm certain you will love it!

"Is this another piece of on-set terminology?" People who haven't worked in film won't understand exactly how deep this observation is. In a world of stingers, dead kittens, and Big-Eye Tenners, a "Shawshank Tree" would totally fit right in. Clothespins are called C-47's, for Christ's sake (and if you invert them so they become tweezers, they're called C-74's!). The moral of this story is don't get involved in the film industry unless you have a great memory.

There is a strong gay subtext in this film, particularly between Neil and Todd. This isn’t an original observation, because many people have written about it. But it’s interesting to view Neil’s father’s attempt to shut down his son’s expression of individuality from that perspective.

I always found it strange that somehow Lt. Dan would not know that he got a Medal of Honor since as the leader of his platoon he would have been instrumental in Forrest getting the award. I put it up to Hollywood needing to manufacture a humorous circumstance by departing from what would have been expected military process for awarding the Medal of Honor.

Camilla. Your reaction was insightful. The generation of today often lacks the general understanding that this is how boys, young men, and sometimes grown men behaved way back in the 2oth century. The social norms were much different than the dynamics of relationships today. Which has contributed to the long-term problems of establishing any meaningful relationship. Men learn to covet and pursue what they desire. Women want to be desired and pursued. Since women have the upper hand in raising boys to men, the edge has been blunted to the degree where women wonder why men don't pursue them. The example given is that chivalry is dead. The other thing I would say is that no film is interesting without the character or characters doing outlandish things in the story. You are viewing these young men through a female gaze that limits the possibilities of growth. This is the point of this channel as I understand it. In my younger days, there were a number of guys who challenged themselves to find a way to meet girls that may have been resistant to their charms or character. Some were successful, and some were not. But the girls weren't going to ask. Or even notice him if he didn't at least present himself. It is also the challenge of women writers and directors to engage men to watch their movies. Not to say it can't be done, but given the differences in our interests, the task isn't easy. Meanwhile, I'll watch a few more reactions before deciding to subscribe. GOOD WILL HUNTING, GOOD MORNIG VIETNAM, and MRS. DOUBTFIRE are waiting in the wings for you. Keep going and enjoy the movies.

I've been watching this movie for years and each time as time progresses I begin to see things a bit differently. Were the boys impressionable? Yes, to where they ran through the film echoing a lot of these things back between each other, "Carpe Diem", "yawp", and the like but I started to see how misguided a lot of it was. Overstreet's so-called romance is a brand we don't see a lot these days because it is no longer acceptable to pursue aggressively without any viable reciprocation on the other's part; but when a story turns it so that the girl does wind up falling for the pursuer then it sells this idea that aggressive tactics are valid means of making a relationship. It's fiction, however. But I was sure that in those days, circa 1950s, it was common practice. I'm sure a lot of grandparents have their stories about how persistent the grandfather was or else the family they had wouldn't have existed.a I have however always had a mistrust of Dalton/Nawanda considering that his actions came off as selfish and conceited. He got what he wanted in the end, expulsion, but at what cost? He had the privileges where leaving this private school was only going to lead him into another one that his parents could easily afford, so a person like that has zero issue with trying to mess with the system that will always be there after he's left for another version of it. There are two movies that I think compliment the themes and tones of this one though at first sight they might be quite different but deserve a viewing: "School Ties" and "Fight Club".

Hi Camilla: Great reaction to a great movie. This movie is certainly touching. It was quite a departure from the usual comedic nature of Robin Williams at this time. His character is so powerful and true in spirit to himself. He made a quote once: "Everyone is born with a spark of madness, don't waste it". Another couple of movies you might like are: "Mona Lisa's Smile" - Julia Robert (2003) & "With Honors" - Brendon Frasier & Joe Pesci (1994). They are beautifully done and have a similar vibe; quite inspiring. I look forward to the furtherance of your channel. Take care
