Thanks for commenting! For winter, I feel like we’ve adapted really well. My theory is that the higher humidity makes colder temperatures more bearable than California. 50F here feels different than 50F in California. Much warmer here in my opinion. Basically, on really cold days, I have multiple layers, starting with long underwear.

@ Understood, but there are many families that don't mind paying the cost of private education in order to live in the areas they desire. Also, alternatives like homeschool are rising in popularity. I get many parents have to work and that's not an option for them, but those are how people mitigate living elsewhere.

@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong Back in the 1970s my parents bought a house in Prairie Village Ks for about $25,000.00. Today that house has sat empty for over five years now and it's not on the market but is listed for over $300,000.00 and rent would be over $1,500.00 a month. And to me that's a whole lot of money for a house that's been sitting empty for over five years. How long has the house you showed been sitting empty? I live in Linn County. I've been looking for a house for many years now and there are plenty that go for $200,000 and higher and that's in Miami County Ks. Some are even more than the house you showed of course many are sitting on acres of land too but even in town they can cost more. So that's why I say $595,000 isn't cheap. God bless

A big, grand house without a formal dining room? A buyer would need to invest in remodeling the remodeling. They took down a wall to combine the master bedroom and the sleeping porch. They lost an architectural asset to create an awkward space. Overall, the house was probably originally grand but, the clunky remodeling makes it look cheep. Sadly, unless this his purchased at a low price by a dedicated restorer, I call this house a future apartment building.

Hard to speak in detail in a comment, but I would say this - if you are careful on where you live, you can avoid most of the crime in Kansas City. We live in an area that is continually ranked in the 10 most dangerous neighborhoods in Kansas City, and we have had some experiences that are definitely undesirable. However, we have never felt in immanent danger because we aren't involved in illegal activities. If you would like to chat about it more, feel free to reach out via text or email.

I completely understand and think they are smart to move back to Colorado. Kansas City is nice enough for a midwest city but definitely lacks in culture and they consistently make the list of the top 20 most violent cities in the US. Crime is a real issue. I lived in KC from 1991 to 2008 and felt like I escaped when I was finally able to leave. Now I have moved back due to family obligations and I'm already plotting how soon I can leave again. Yes, I know my post will make people defensive but I'm really just saying that I understand why they moved and also why they are leaving. Like cities everywhere, some people love a place and others hate it. No wrong or right. It's just matter of personal taste and what suits you best.

I lived on Indiana on the east side of the kc museum mansion. It was getting to be a dangerous neighborhood in 1992 when I left northeast for good and moved to the burbs which is too bad. I swear that last house used to be a nursing home/old folks or a veterans home residential home. I can’t recall for sure. The restoration of the home is amazing! Thanks for giving us a tour!

moved to Ray county - we do have our share of crime (no one can escape it completely) here and unfortunately the schools aren’t that great but lots of room to spread out and cost of living is a lot lower. I recommend small town Missouri for anyone who doesn’t mind spending time driving to the city once in a while. @@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong

Nice. Are you closer to the city, more in the rural areas? I was just in Lawson. Didn't realize that Lawson is in both Clay and Ray counties until I was writing a contract.

I saw a home for sale in Paola Ks, which is about 25 miles north of where I live. It was built in 1990 but it looked like it was built in 1890. It has five bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. Price was $525,000.00 but it was my kind of place. Too expensive for me. There are several homes for sale in Paola Ks which go for over $300,000.00 and were built in the late 1800s to early 1900s. So you see you can find grand homes for sale in many rural areas outside of Kansas City Mo. God bless.

Wow only 1.299 million for that last house is a great value. I’m sure a lot of Californians would take that in a second.

While you lived in Gladstone did you ever try Northland Christian Chinese church?

We lived right down the road from it, but we were members at Emmaus Church in North Kansas City. We never visited the Chinese Church. Are you looking for a church now?

My wife is Chinese, we go there! She came from China at the age of 43 and had never heard of Jesus before. I am thankful that she ran into that community because they are excellent people and have a very biblical foundation! 😊 It is mostly Chinese and Taiwanese and it's in Mandarin but the pastor's wife translates!

That's awesome! I was a Ph.D. student at the seminary down the street - Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Where do most of those congregants live? I only ask because if my mom relocates here, I would love to connect her with a solid church that has services in a language she can understand.

Strange thing about sidewalks in brookside is people walking the streets instead of on the sidewalks. I've been a package delivery person through Westport plaza in brookside for 15 years
