Australians understand satire. It is our native language. Any Australian who can't work out satire or deliberately does their 'nah-nah', pretending to be offended by obvious (to Australians) satire, so they can get attention or legitimise their own existence by messing with long-established cultural idiosyncrasies to get a reaction, will: (a) be laughed / thrown out of any Australian court; (b) be forever labelled a 'wanker' and probably have it written all over them in permanent marker, by feral grommets; (c) be publicly shamed and hounded by hoards of bogans in 'Hi-Vis' shirts, 'hard yakka' work shorts / boardies and steel-capped boots / thongs (depending on time / day), at least until the footy starts; (d) have their coffees repeatedly burnt by hipster baristas; (e) probably be sprayed with warm Fosters (no one drinks that crap); (f) possibly have their citizenship revoked; (g) maybe be deported to the US, where people seem to have to apologise for everything they say, so they can learn to apologise for everything they say; (h) never be allowed back into Australia until they: (i) apologise for everything; (ii) sing the lyrics to Cold Chisel's 'Khe Sanh' correctly out of key after drinking one entire bottle each of Vodka, Bourbon and Drambuie, just like Jimmy used to before therapy; (iii) buy everyone a round at their local; (iv) name all the current members of the Australian Cricket team in correct batting order; (v) correctly sing the second verse of 'Advance Australia Fair' (yes, there is a second verse and it's not, "Oi, Oi, Oi!"); (vi) cook lamb for everyone on Australia Day. There is a standing joke amongst Australians that no one knows the words to our National Anthem, 'Advance Australia Fair', which is largely true. Usually, only the first verse is played because the whole National Anthem thing in Australia used to be a bit cringe, so most people don't know there actually is a second verse. For most older Australians, the National Anthem we were forced to sing at school was 'God Save the Queen'. AAF only became the NA in 1984 (poignant?). Now, with our increasingly Americanised socialisation, people are being more effectively conditioned into being more patriotic / nationalistic, so they can be more easily manipulated by the government and AAF gets played bloody everywhere. If you haven't done the 'You Never Lamb Alone' ad, from 2017, it's epic, but my favourite is the 2023, 'Un-Australia' ad. I would end up in Un-Australia, and I probably wouldn't be too upset.

Believe it or not, outdoor activities like swimming, hiking and camping are quite popular here in Australia. The basic rules of survival are (1) Read any warning signs (this is where tourists tend to make their BIG mistake); (2) Just watch where you walk, or sit, or put your hands; and (3) Leave The Wildlife Alone. Common sense, pretty much. The joke here in Australia is - "Not all Aussie wildlife will kill you. A lot of it wants to, but simply can't." :)

I have been to where Banjo Patterson heard the rest of the story and wrote the poem later put to music. The walk into the billabong is through a lot of coolibah trees and the breeze always blows in the coolibahs. It is eerie and Banjo really captured the spirit of the story. As a side note, the Ozzie humour never lets us down - there is a life saver stand/watch tower set up there! Typical. The story resonates with Ozzies because the squatters themselves were thieves. Banjo is a national legend.
