As a 10-11-year-old paperboy, I used to sell newspapers in the four pubs in the area in 1972-73 (Dockyard, pubs, the roadway, home deliveries). The drunks used to help me sell my papers in the pub to the rowdy patrons. They didn't spare the tips neither. In 1973 I got around $5 in tips per day and $15 from commission per week from paper/magazine sales working seven days {4 hrs morning and 4 hrs afternoon). $50 earnings per week back then is equivalent to $500, factoring in inflation. Not bad earnings, but I was ripped off, seeing that I worked 56 hours for it. My brother earned similarly
The point most were making, is that the pub is a place that relax and talk with like minded people - the atmosphere will change (and actually their mental health may suffer)! We have a worse govt right now here! 🧐

Yep I gave my so-in-law $ 20 to get us both a beer down In Eden southern NSW last Christmas & when I asked if there was any change He said "Nope" they were $10 each .I had not had a beer in 11 months.
My friend who worked in a bottle-o in Canberra said there was a man high up in parliament who would buy a bottle of scotch every morning before work. Explains a lot.
I was 13 then used to love the smell at the pub, I would sneak a swig out in the beer garden when dad and his mates weren't looking, Looks like the Wharfs at Woolloomooloo where Russel Crowe lives these days not so back in 75 , Reschs DA or Wreckers Dinner Ale, today that Middy is 5 bucks, not 29 cents. At least i could understand people back then. Cigarettes were 40 cents a packet now they are 35 dollars
I actually hate the smell of beer I drank way too many once at 16 and it was so humiliating I really learnt to hate it! I remember my aunt saying I will give up cigarettes when they get to a $1!!
Cheapest I remember is $6 for a six pack, $24 for a carton. Only drank beam and coke at the pub and that was $1.60 back then and a bottle of Beam was $20 when I was 16, meant 18 sorry.
This was in the era of being taken off the gold standard and going full FIAT, borrowing currency from a private central/reserve bank. Our currency loses value every day because it is no longer backed by anything. The more money that can be printed by turning the printers on every time a government cannot stick to a budget will wreck the economy of the world.
