    Danny Elfman <3 and thx for the tip, didn't know about his classical music either, need to check it out. yeah sounds a bit weird to me too, wonder if he meant musicwise or if this was some copyright issue, like if he worked for hire and transferred copyright to filmmakers so he was not allowed to extend it. but surely he could have created cinematic music without any real movie whichever way he wants, so yeah, weird..

    I have been waiting to hear these songs since 2008, and Jari did not disappoint. Best album I've discovered in a looooong long time, and my favorite next to the debut. I especially love the journey from the beginning of Ominous Clouds to the end of Silver Leaves. The way Silver Leaves wraps up with such an uplifting and energetic crescendo fading into a cathartic release is just perfect.

    Time II is alright. My opinion is deeply affected by everything that surrounds it. Instead of a long-winded explanation as to what I mean, anyone can go back to the first self titled album and understand within like 30 seconds that it sounds infinitely better than Time II, which means Time II could have easily came out over a decade ago. With the wait and all the crowd funding, it’s hard to not be let down by getting only a handful of new tracks - two of which are instrumentals. The mixing leaves a bit to be desired and just makes you scratch your head as to why this took so long. Make no mistake, Time II is good. It’s just the fact that it’s hard to ignore there’s a plethora of bands that produce at a high level of what Jari has been promising and whining about for years, that are somehow able to produce no problem at a much faster rate. By no means do I expect or ask a band to come out with material at a rate than they are comfortable with, but Jari took advantage of all of that big time. This is also coming from someone who supported both of his crowd funds. The problem isn’t the music, because it’s good. The problem is the drama that surrounds this entire thing, and even though it’s finally finished and it’s good, Jari deserves every bit of criticism he gets.

      I won't speak on what I don't know about (this album or Wintersun in general), but I think it's pretty damn rare for a musician to accumulate an album worth of bar setting material in under two years. I guess unless they are wizards that just do it constantly... It seems like most special works take at least five years. Not that I'm calling this one of them LOL. Also there are factors like age, public pressure, business...

    • @henrywalton5967
      @henrywalton5967 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The debut is amazing don't get me wrong but it's a different sound, it's way more straightforward compared to Time I & II. I personally prefer the Time albums, especially as one big album. And Time II probably could have come out a decade ago like you said but Jari was already not happy with the mix of Time I so I can understand to a point why he didn't want to release another album with a production he wasn't satisified with, this kinda adds up to why he had a burnout with Time II back then. I really like the production of Time II and Time I 2.0, they sound great. One thing I will say that is odd, why did he need a mac pro? Surely he could have got a pc more powerful and cheaper years ago.

    Thanks for the review Jo, really enjoyed it (also how you structured it). I got to learn Wintersun in 2019 so 5 years only for me, no biggie:) But yeah, it was about fvking time. Loved Silver Leaves, Storm (especially the guitar solo part) and The Way of the Fire. I think there were some issues in the mixing but in overall the album was an amazing experience. I think Silver Leaves took the crown from Loneliness in the most beautiful Wintersun song category. I have owned Time II only as digital but after listening the album ~5 times bought the LP today... as well as Time I and The Forest Seasons LPs. 15:20 kiitos 🥰 Now that Wintersun has their own studio.. or semi-studio.. and Jari mentioned they have 4 albums in the works, so... perhaps the next one will be released already during this decade. Jari also promised to chill-out a bit with the amount of tracks, Time II songs had ~1000 tracks, next albums will include ~500-800.

    A lot of the criticism is the production and how things are drowned out. My favourite band. Imo, the greatest of all extreme metal has to offer. Never have I been more existentially terrified than driving home while stoned as fuck after dropping my band mates off while I had 'Fas' playing. Hell of an experience. The limit was crossed with a VERY weary horror, indeed. The Furnaces of Palingenisia is also wildly underrated. That album is absolutely incredible! I couldn't disagree more... their still Avant Garde Metal (as they ever were) on their last 3 albums ... The Furnaces of Palingenesia is my Favorite in their Discography Bataille (Atheist) is a huge influence on DsO (which im in tune with)... I don't know what Mikko Aspa really believes (don't really care) but i do know when a mob attacks someone its usually BS (The War on Dissent/Political Strategies)... If he validates these attacks/claims... so be it (everyone has the RIGHT to their own beliefs, even if i disagree with them)... I'm Art Centric (Liberal Minded)... Art matters more than what might be one members politics... All i have to do is simply not endorse the views i disagree with (i don't know his true intentions)... The Music speaks for itself, stands on its own & rises above any form of Censorship... Live & Let Live/To each their own Cool video/favorite quote "We cant know the connection that they have, we are not them"

      @snooz64 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Furnaces is my favorite too. It's all they are capable of in a very bare and straight to the point fashion. All tracks are using a minimal amount of variations and everything is memorable and really well crafted. And despite to the more accessible writing it still is fierce and dissonant. Unfortunately their last release is very weak, I can't get over the fact it sounds like a random BM band, without any of the tension and dissonant chaos they used to master. As for Aspa, yes he seems to have said and supported ugly ideas but you also have to understand that to make this kind of extreme music you have to have a dark side. I am ok with artists being weird, being wrong, being into things I dislike. As long as their art is not the vehicle for their personal politics or ideas it's fine. And DSO has never been something like that.

    This is not the old iteration of Limbonic Art, this is solo project now from the founding member Dameon. Morfeus was the other member of the band until around 07 (I believe) and he was the guy behind the electronics, I.e., drum programming and the keyboard composition, also guitar, and without him this band is bland and lacks depth and dimension. This is coming from a huge fan of this band also. Check out ‘Moon in the Scorpio’ and ‘In Abhorrence Dementia’ albums and see what you think. Cheers! 🍻

    Some of my favourite metallic classical movements: - Shostakovich, symphony no. 10, esp. the allegro - Stravinsky, rite of string, esp. finale, Sacrificial Dance. You've heard it. - Mosolov, Iron Foundry (this is a rare gem, a must hear!) (edit: apparently it has gained an audience recently, Metallica performed it in 2019) - Schnittke, Requiem. The entire thing is extremely dissonant, try mvt. 3 Dies Irae if you're in a hurry. - Holst, the planets, Mars. - Ligeti, Requiem. 3:rd movement if you're in a hurry. - Penderecki, Threnody for the victims of Hiroshima. This one is as dark as the name suggests. I try to vary my classical propaganda based on what sort of metalhead I'm talking to, but these are my own favourites and I mostly go for djent, black, prog, doom and death metal. The "softer" metals might have more overlap with baroque/classical era/romantic composers like Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Grieg, Dvorak, etc.

    Metal is it's own genre. It's like saying that everything is a subgenre of blues because everything came from it.

    Erotomania by dream theater on the album Awake shares a similar thing. At 4:43, the guitar part really sounds like the Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183 composed by Mozart at 1:20 I don't know if it's intentional, considering the parts aren't identical. Maybe Dream Theater was inspired by an other track
