In 1979 they didn't have CGI. Everything you saw on screen was there. And the chestbuster scene , the actors knew something was going to happen but didn't know what. They were given rain jackets to put on. Also the cast was told they couldn't enter the dinner room for a few days. So what you see are their REAL REACTIONS😮😮😮

I didnt notice you mention this but the actor playing Ash is the same actor that plays Bilbo Baggins. You were asking why they handled the situation so poorly and the answer is that essentially they are space truckers. They dont deal with stuff like this and their normal science officer was removed from the crew by the company and replaced with Ash. Ash was there specifically to make sure the proper procedures werent followed.
