Do all the 2013 Model S's come with the free charging for life option?
@@TomRoyce all of them were sold with it. But may not still have it.
What's hilarious is that the C8 owner will be paying about $1400 in maintenance every quarter as GM just notified them that if they don't get their transmission fluid changed every 3 months, they'll void the warranty!
I love my 2013 Model S more everyday. Got all the free perks; data, supercharging for life, etc. MCU 2 upgrade with radio. It's insane for an 11 year old car. New battery in 2021. just under 140K miles rn. I am hearing that a coolant bypass "surgery" will help but I haven't done a deep dive into that. Thanks for the video man!
@@eksmaan yes, especially if you haven't heard any of the classic sign coming from your LDU. Get that coolant delete ASAP.
@ Right on man! Thank you SO MUCH!
I purchased a 2013 S model 60 two years ago for $16.5k. Thinking I would take advantage of the free supercharging. I probably wouldn’t do it again. I would only purchase an older model S if you live close to a supercharger. Like 5-10 mins tops. Charging time is awfully slow. 60-90 mins for a full charge. I suggest either you like to read, nap, or go jog home….or figure out what to do in the meantime. If you are a person with a busy schedule , You wouldn’t want to be sitting at a charging station several times a week. It is annoying. Especially if there is a line when you get to the supercharging station. That means you could potentially drive 15+ mins to the charging station, Wait in line for another 15+mins, then have to wait 60+ mins to charge, then drive home. It;s a lot of work! However, For $10-15K You’re getting a lot of car and technology. You can purchase it for your kid as their first vehicle, download the app, and you’ll know exactly where your children are at all times. Don;t tell them that. 😂😂😂
@@stylin525 my little one is only 6 so doubt it'll be around for 10 more years...but if it is you are spot on. You made a VERY valid point. I live in a major Metropolitan area so we have superchargers everywhere. I have two within 8min of my house, but I can picture what it would be like if I didn't like you. Great points, and thanks for the watch!!
The smart way would be to charge 10 minute intervals. You have to calculate usage mile/hour charge time to make it efficient fir home charging. A supercharger can gain 200 miles in 15 minutes on average. We have one 15 minutes from us. So we go takes 5 minutes once a week to keep it from being a time sync and keep the charge up high. For trips out of state we stop at stations every 50 to 70 miles for 10 mins it works out just fine and never gets low. Most gas pumps are so slow it takes that long to stop, pay and get gas so it works out the same in time.
Waiting patiently for a video on how you did that with the front screen

@@johnpoldo8817 I will definitely go expensive directly from Tesla. Anything I spend over 5k on, I need some reassurance. I am sure there are some great independent shops out there. But I can't leave it up to chance. They would have to have an equal or better warranty, and be cheaper.
@ Good decision
I have a 2014 that I love, but it died last year. The battery died and Teslas $22500 fix is not in my budget. It only has 55000 miles on it. I’m very disappointed and hope to fix it someday .
How much does a whole new battery cost? And a new large drive unit? Just trying to price things out in case of the worst
@@CEASEless01 if you need a new battery it's about 13k-15k. New drive unit about 6k. There are many private shops who do good work for less. But those are the stealership prices.

@ that’s more like it. Ha ha but now you see why I wanted to make sure that the model S that I buy it had the battery replaced recently already. If I didn’t have paperwork that showed that the battery was replaced already I wouldn’t of bought it. Thanks for watching the video!
This Model as would turn my head! Do you have details on parts + steps for the nose cone to mesh grill replacement ?
@@smovdrkbro thanks for the compliment! There honestly isn't any secret sauce to it. You remove the plastic nose cone (videos out there on how to). Then you cut your generic grill material to size. I actually got mine second hand from someone on FB marketplace so I don't even have a link. Once it's cut to size, I used black zip ties to hold it in place. There are tons of holes to use from where the old nose cone was. If I ever perfect this method I'll redo and make a video.
Teslas are good when they are newish. I am ditching my model 3 beause when those repairs happen they will be rediculously costly. With 130k miles keeping it with a note for a long time is a poor financial decision. Yours looks like its almost at 80% charged and only has 157 estimated miles remaining. which isnt much when you consider the batter is always constantly draining. Even worse when you live ina colder climate I hope you enjoy yours. I am done with my Model 3. Going back to a ICE. Oh, dont get me started about the suspension.
@@lesliethompson5393 haha that's fair. I've heard a lot of not so great things about the 3's. But definitely fun while they last. I agree I would never buy a tesla and finance it unless with had a good warranty with it. As long as it's covered it's great. I'm in love with my older one because parts are readily available if I need something, and even at 12 years old, it still doesn't require much of anything. As stated I'm planning for when some goes wrong, but until then really enjoying. What I would do if I want to go the ice route like you, is maybe go hybrid. I think hybrid if the real way of the future, not full electric. I love mine but it's not practical in all situations. But the right hybrid give you the speed and fun, and practicality of gas. Just a thought. Thanks for the view!!
great video... its an uncommon occurrence so i am sure many folks are jealous of the sale price.... but your willing to handle the future $$ risk and are planning for it..... @@DPrent I always used the actual rated miles and I am getting around 211 miles. Thanks for watching!
Question.. would it be worth it to find a cheap model s with free for life charging regardless of it being a lemon? That way you can charge your other teslas forever? Or does the chargers recognize it’s not that model? 🤔
@@PR0PHESY I wish this was a possibility but it isn't. The supercharging stays with that car. The ONLY exception is when Tesla is running a promotion. They ran one earlier this year in fact, which allows you to transfer you free SC to your new purchase. It's a rare promotion, but that would be the only case where it makes sense to snag an old one on its last leg to just transfer that SC.
How did you get the free supercharging with your older Tesla as a second owner, did it come with the car, just curios how anyone can find a Tesla in 2024 that will give them free supercharging if it was not a new Tesla or coming directly from Tesla as a purchase?
@@Tacoma0ridge you nailed it. It comes with the car. The free SC stays with the car. There are only two exceptions: 1. If you buy your used Tesla from a Tesla dealership they strip the fire SC. I bought mine from a private dealer so the SC transfered with the car. 2. If Tesla is running a promotion that allows you to transfer your free SC to you NEW purchased car from them. Then the old car won't have it anymore, and you'll have free SC on your new Tesla. I may be inadvertently waiting for number 2 haha. Thanks for watching!
Lithium-ion batteries are constantly degrading-even when they’re not in use-simply as a consequence of time and thermodynamics. This is referred to as calendar aging, which is a result of a lithium-ion battery’s chemical makeup, as there are unavoidable chemical side reactions that take place at all times. The primary side reaction is the growth of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). In the first charge cycle after cell assembly in the manufacturing process, SEI grows and acts as a passivating film on the anode, preventing uncontrolled reaction between the electrolyte and the anode. However, the SEI slowly grows throughout the battery’s lifetime, which continues to consume the electrolyte and lithium ions. Consumption of the cell’s lithium ions through SEI growth is one contributing factor to the degradation mode known as loss of lithium inventory (LLI).
@@shawnm8232 that was a lot of words to just say batteries degrade. I think we all know that about every battery ever made haha. Did you have a question? Or helpful info so someone watching?
@@mariotvines Yeah I'm sure you knew that the SEI slowly grows throughout the lifetime of the battery :-)
@ oh not at all. What I said was that we all know that EVERY battery degrades. Different types degrade in different ways. But what I'm asking is why was it important to post that as a comment on my video? Lol. Yes my car like many others has a battery, but it is not a video about my vehicles battery...
@@mariotvines Video about a cheap old Tesla with drive motor whine and free supercharging. Title asking if it is a good deal but batteries not included in conversation ?
@ not about the interworkings of a lithium ion battery lmao. Could you imagine if folks clicked on that title and thumbnail and all I did was talk about the science behind batteries in general? There are plenty of videos out there about what you are trying to bring up here, this is not a video about that. Please comment on those videos. I believe your issue is that you are relating the entire vehicle to just the battery. If this was a regular ICE car I doubt you would comment on just one singular part like you did here. Because you would hopefully understand that the video is about the vehicle as a whole. If you were you have comments with practical and helpful information for someone watching (ie. What to lol out for, signs of an aging battery, preventative measures) then you would be being helpful. Instead you just rag on a battery talking about degradation. Do you see why I may find it unhelpful? Anyway I wish you the best man. Whatever you drive I hope it's as fun as this thing. Happy holidays.
