When I built my home, I also used 5/8, fire guard, mold tough as every sheet, throughout the house and garage. Glued and screwed, no paper tape, two coats of setting with a topping of midweight. The material cost 15 years ago was only a few dollars more per sheet. But what a difference in durability. Walls just feel so much more solid. Nice to see someone else who worries about quality.

Doesn't installing the loaded mass wall material tight decrease the effectiveness? My understand is that it should be installed loosely so that it can vibrate and turn the vibrations into heat.

I get anxiety just thinking about the level of maintenance this system will take in the future. Trying to diagnose a short or a bad wire run or a bad switch would take a team of electrical engineers 2 weeks and would be a complete nightmare. Heaven forbid you wanted to remodel or move lights or switches around some time down the road… 🤦🏽‍♂️

Building this fall and decided that open cell spray foam is the best bang for my buck cost for high performance insulation. It easily beats fiberglass, provides sound dampening, provides an air barrier over 4”. I also believe the cost will be recaptured as the years passed with the increased efficiency. Good vid!

I just discovered your channel and enjoyed your comments on the 5/8" drywall. I look forward to future videos. I built our house over 20 years ago and used 5/8". I have never regretted that decision. I upgraded for the rigidity and was surprised by the sound deadening qualities. Overall our house has a much higher build quality for such a small increase in cost. With your attention to the details I'm sure your clients are happy you built their house once they move in.

My husband consults on numerous custom homes here in Vegas. In our own custom home, we installed these in every bedroom, foyer, hallway, office, living room, kitchen, and bathrooms. We absolutely love them! We also have massive in-wall subwoofers, too lol. I don’t believe we did this in our theater, and we didn’t do this for our patio due to the heat.

Why not just use closed cell everywhere to super insulate the home. Most Architects... like myself... prefer closed cell. It's a much higher R value per inch of material.
