MIM Fender Squier Series Strat final verdict

Look at the Squier Series MIM Strat after upgrades. It's my opinion that these guitars were made using Mexican bodies and necks. Fitted with import hardware and pickups.

Squier Classic Vibe Jazzmaster. Why I picked it!
I know I'm late, but it takes two 9 volt(the rectangle batteries). If you can find 1 with the door attached still, keep it because you may have the only 1 in existence! Wow its crazy, you have to take the neck off to get to the truss rod lol. I'm going to be doing a review on this guitar in my next video here pretty soon :)
You forgot to put the special plate back on 😂
I've owned my MIM squier series strat simce the early 90s and it is BY FAR my best playing electric! I've played american-made strats that were much more expensive, and they don't handle like this one does. I know some of these series vary a little bit, but the one I have is a true gem! Never getting rid of it!
Nice job brother.
I bought an EPI strat last week for 50 bucks. I have no clue about which model it is., But it kicks ass
Man Imagine throwing that away, I just bought one similar, wish I had people who just threw away basses near me lol.
I love those Filtertone style pickups you installed. I will put Mojotone PAF 59 Humbucker Clones in mine. I love the deco tuners you installed. I'm looking for tuners that will fit the existing holes in the headstock. I hope I can find some similar deco looking tuners. I will be replacing the bridge as well. I will be having the origianl wiring harness replaced with a Mojotone, unless the tech guy I'm using wants to make his own.
I want to hear this thing. I'm getting ready to modify my Firefly this week.
Thanks for the Detail work.
that is a solid relic job, I want to do something similar to my Squier Mini Precision bass. Did you get that effect from sanding?
If you have one of these hang on to it the value is only going up due to the fact people thought they were throw away guitars when in fact they were not. the heart and soul of these were made in the USA. so upgrade and swap a few parts and you has a USA made Fender strat
after doing some searching from 93 to 97/98 from the fender book these black label mim fenders bodies and necks were made in Cali. they were shipped to Mexico for sanding painting and assembly. This is a published Fack from the fender book. They in fact usa made bodies and necks assembled with import parts. Again the fender book clearly says so!!
bought one yesterday for 40$. Its a 94 built. i put an older 87 fender bridge on it cleaned the pots and the jack. and holy hell its a beast!!!! Cleaned it and put new strings on it and its crazy killer!!! The quality of the neck and body tells me it was made in Cali like the stories say. Made in Cali and shipped to mexico for assembly with out sourced parts. This thing is a complete chugging monster with stock pups. Dont even get me started on the care that was taken for the wiring. the shielding and the check list inside the pickguard. holy crap they took some time on this build
bought my 95 MiM for $50 with an amp AND a theremin. swapped the pickups out for a custom set i selected from stuff i had including a nice quad rail humbucker. its one of my favorite players
just bought one for $40 complete. minus trem bar gonna do a tear down and clean and set up. the only thing in changing is the bridge with an older fender bridge
7:27 My son’s squier broke in the exact same spot. I suppose squier is not using a high quality wood for their bodies. It cracked on both sides all the way into the electronics cavity. I don’t think it was your drilling, I would argue it is the quality of the wood. My solution is convert it into a fixed bridge using a Tele top loading bridge with a cutout for a humbucker. Then I fashioned a piece of hardwood to fill the body. Still working on it. Not sure about what I will do about the finish.
If it's a 1994 it's a Fender. There's a book with the vice President at fender admitting they came from corona california
I think the Affinity is back loading the strings. I have a Sonic and it's top loading. I enjoyed part one and two, thanks. If the headstock says Affinity then that would explain the neck spacers ;)
I have that exact Ripper. Got it in trade for work I did as a teenager. All original.
What’s the size bit needed to install the anchor for the 2 point system?
I’m considering buying this bridge. How snug is the arm, and does the arm stay snug after extended use? Thank you in advance
So I watched your video-thank you very much!-and went ahead and ordered a GB-Bender from Certano, and it’s everything you said it was. Problem was I didn’t want to drill holes in my American-made Fender Tele so I decided to by a cheap Squire Tele to see how it worked -and it was about $250 CND. Altogether, with taxes and duties, I now have a $725 Squire Tele with a Certano GB-Bender on it. Okay, so it’s really fun to play-but, the BIG BUT!-the “Stinger” model of Squire Tele has a different ashtray bridge, it’s a six-saddle, and there’s no string-through-body holes. The resul was an unavoidable rub on the B-string (because of the 6-saddle system there’s no room to relieve some metal out of the way), very slight bu enough to break the B-string after 15 minutes of play. What to do? So I ordered an authentic Fender 3-saddle ashtray bridge and ferrules for the string-through holes, altogether about $130 CND (with shipping, tax, &c). So now I have a $755 Squire Tele with a fender 3-saddle ashtray bridge, string-through with ferrules-and, of course, the Certano GB-Bender. Now, during this time I was indisposed quite a lot and didn’t have timed to discover that Certano has gone one step further in making the install easier: they have the “T-Bender” which is a GB-Bender ready-attached to the ashtray, Very cool and woulda saved me some trouble. Oh, well, I had the stuff purchased already anyway. But, next time! Have you checked the T-Bender out yet?
I had one as a kid 25 years ago and I just picked up one. i'm excited to get it working and play it. This was my first guitar.
Thanks for making this. I just bought one, this vid was very helpful. That bridge is quite a head-scratcher lol
These Squiers are pretty good mod platforms
Oh my goodness! That right there looks like a very unique Fender Stratocaster to me. As a longtime fan as well as a player of Fender Stratocasters, this model itself is kind of unusual for me. From what I understood at one time, the Fender company have tried their best to put Fender and Squier brands on the same boat when they were building something totally new in order to appease a lot of Fender and Squier players that loved both brands of Stratocasters at the same time and so on. Eventually, they came up with the Fender Squier Series models which was all new at one point. This is not your typical Squier or anything like that. On the ball of the headstock where it usually says "Original Contour Body" on standard models, it instead says "Squier Series" which is really unique but unusual. Basically, these Fender Squier Series Stratocasters were built in 3 different countries which included Mexico, Japan and Korea in the 1990s as far as I know. Otherwise, the Fender company had built 3 different variations of these Fender Squier Series Stratocasters in 3 different countries which is wonderful. Some guitar players out there that have played a variety of Fender and Squier electric guitars over the years will tell you that the Mexican, Japanese and Korean made models are way better than any American made models that are out there. I mean, some American made models were great but not all of them were great. Otherwise, this is my input from what I know and I hope you like it. Best of luck to you and all that good stuff.
I believe it’s the clear coat which cracks.
So what you are saying is replace everything but the wood?
Mine is black with red binding and a Jackson style head stock with two humbuckers and tremolo and head phone Jack and batteries it’s a prospector I picked it up at a flea market
I have a fender Squier series. MIJ. Rosewood board. It has the most unique sound. Looks as good as my USA strats, pleats very different. I’d kinda suggest it played like an early early USA strAt. Mt personal opinion- if you can find one- buy it. Mines a one piece Japanese cedar body and it melts like butter in the hand. Try these things if you can. They’re rare and they’re collectible.
I’ve got a 2008 love it !
Dude, where are you? Been over a year since I've seen ya.
I’ve heard that they’re alder. Kind of looks like it but I’m not an expert.
The 80s serial numbers were seven digits. The first digit indicates the model year (ie. if it starts with a 5 it’s a 1985 model).
Does it have the white marker dots on the fretboard? I use those to find notes. It is double that price at $46 now at A.E. p.s. I find it amazing you know nothing about ukes and did a review. Anything for a buck in the USA. Disgraceful.
I have the same series. Fender squire series but made in Japan. It sure what it’s made from but weighs a ton. It was refinished a few years back and has a one piece cedar body. Some piece of kit. Even with ceramic pickups it rocks. The truss rod hole has no insert- plastic or wooden. 22 frets. Rosewood board. It knocks the socks of my USA highway one and Mexican player. Reckon she’ll be worth a few $ one day if not already. People sleep on these imports. Brainwashed!!
cuanto es el precio de esa guitarra?
Hi thanks for the video. Are you threading the string through the lowest hole first? Also did you wrap the 2 thinnest strings around twice?
why does the new bridge pickup look like it's banana shaped? 😲
Damn, you left the strings in while detaching the bridge! My Squier Affinity Telecaster has a "humbucker" in the bridge position... it's a DiMarzio Chopper!
Real nitro EXPLODES you can hear loud snapping…. I wouldn’t try it… I did this to one of mine and had big chunks fly off and cracks everywhere INSTANTLY and you don’t need heat. It didn’t look cool at all.
A snug glue-in of a saddle is all that is needed. Just make sure the guitar top and bridge are both lightly coated in glue (Titebond is fine) right to the edges and raw wood.
If that’s an Ibanez body, then chances are very high that it’s a 24 fret neck, so yeah putting a 21 fret neck on a guitar body setup for a 24 is gonna mess with your intonation, and pocket fit.
I remember seeing one of these Epiphone strats in a store back in the 90’s. Always wondered about ‘em. Thanks for the video!
What did you use for the replacement pickgard? Holes all line up..? Thanks! Enjoyed your vid!

I have one of these in Torino Red, I've kept it original apart from changing the pick guard. I think it's a great guitar to play although the pickups and electrics are not the best. The specs I got from Fender via the serial number which was not on the website but I emailed them and this was the information they sent me.
