Trypanophobia (Hard, Challenge Mode) - 3.1 Achievement || Empires of the Undergrowth
By completing The Harvest on any difficulty with the challenge active, you can get the achievement, "Trypanophobia."
- *Trypanophobia - Beat the level without losing any ants to phorid flies. (challenge)*
*Tips:*
- Use worker spam early game. Get around 30-40 workers. These workers are cheap and can gather a ton of leaves for the early game.
- Around the time the workers are made, start media spam, around 20-25 or more media. They will be used to help collect leaves faster to start producing majors. You can make fewer if you choose to upgrade them, just to be on the safer side, although not needed.
- Some 7-10 majors are all that is needed to kill the enemy colony. You can level them up for more health and damage.
- Taunt or Stun doesn't matter, although taunt is much better against the numerous large enemies in the level and dealing with the enemy ants.
- The best way to win this level without having to spend too much time or risking ants getting killed by flies is to kill the enemy queen.
- Starve the enemy colony outside by constantly harassing their lines. You need to kill off all their media and majors outside, to make the invasion of the enemy nest easier.
- Once you enter the enemy nest, make sure to get to the queen fast. Turn attack off to bypass all the workers carrying eggs. The enemy colony get free major spawns from a nearby tunnel in their nest.
*Challenge:*
- The flies spawn on certain plant clusters. It's best to try to gather leaves from the areas before they spawn.
- It's best to ignore the plants once they get infested, unless you need the leaves for one
final push to win.
- Don't waste time making level 3 media and majors to fend off these flies. You can do so on lower difficulties or for the achievement. Although you don't need to here.
*Timestamps:*
- 0:00 - Day 1
- 8:45 - Night 1
- 16:25 - Day 2
- 17:40 - Harassing Enemy Forces
- 21:45 - Entering Enemy Nest
- 22:40 - End

also, i wonder if its 'possible' to amass enough of the fast responder medics by the morning of day 2 to trigger 'enough' of the stink ants to stay in line for the driver ants, such that they actually can defeat them enough to drive them off, because i notice the driver ants don't upgrade enough by day 2 to be a threat to the stink ants like they are from day 3 onwards
So I am once again here to say i learned fun facts about the termites in the 5.1/5.2 levels turns out, if it weren't for the 'cooldown' forced upon the termite's forces when the player kills them for food, they would actually be able to... probably, fight off the player character's matabele ants and if i suspect, even the driver ants. because i've noticed they often have fungus supplies ranging in the thousands of 2k at most maybe even more. as an example on 5.1, the 'central' termite mound i kept raiding over/over had easily 2.3k food in fungus yet because of that cooldown enforced on their termite soldiers... they just can't fight back after a certain period. makes me wonder how the termites would fair if they didn't have the cooldown enforced upon them to explain the cooldown is how long it takes before you can plant an egg and for it to begin hatching into a new soldier/worker, similiar to how the slavers work in 1.2 with your black ants if any slaver successfully steals an egg, a 'cooldown' is placed on it and until it expires you can't have any eggs placed there.
Also, i wonder if its 'possible' to kill the sun spider 'before' she has a chance to break into the nest... thus stopping her from making an entrance for the other titans to enter
Playing normally, no. Using cheats on Ng+ with soldiers to give them a ton of damage and one shooting the sun spider, yes. Although if you kill it outside, the other titans enter normally still.
i wish the termite food that sits there when you kill the queen (from the tiles) stayed longer, it would make it more of a reason to want to kill the termite queens... then again it would be the 'reverse' for why you would want to keep them alive.
Having them stay longer would defeat the purpose of doing quick raids. Unless you need a massive boost quickly, it’s best to not kill them, I, on the other hand… like killing the queens
The stink ants fight the driver ants?! What?
Yep, the stink ants that spawn on the surface can fight back against the drivers. It’s pretty cool to see them, you get a special line for it too.
Nice, now can I see you do it ntc, I did it ntc but I see you better than me so I want to see how clean it would look if you did it
I'll think about off challenges in the future, I'm currently doing achievements. I'll see if I do stuff like WO and NTC later down the line.
I just beaten 3.2 on impossible, and i think i completed it in a WHOPPING 30-45 minutes YEA THAT LONG I BASICALLY SPEEDRAN WITHOUT KNOWING
ay gg!
@@NappyB1 I completed it in the fourth or third day, right before I defeated the whip spider
@@JamesBluer fourth day would be nearly an hour. So it was most likely the third day for you.
@@NappyB1 during the first night I overspent, because as soon as I got 20 fungus or 80,I would buy a worker or a mediae, basically I spammed workers and I had 30 workers,I had 25 mediae and 19 majors,I maxed all of my mediaes since that was my priority, and also I was fast with collecting leaves,I collected some leaves to the hill in the north west before it had phorid flies, and during the third day I just chillax and i understood the army ant spawn rate, basically the more your forces are closer and overwhelming it the more it doesn't spawn more, it's an anti cheat method
I will say this, i have done this mission without the challenge active (the emperor scorpion) but adding a unique challenge, 'not digging out a shortcut to the nest entrance, meaning my termites all have to take the LONG ASS WALK around that semi-circle you start with... and i found some interesting tech to make this mission so much easier, given my dumbass with my self-imposed challenge, and interesting builds that makes this mission interesting/difficult/easy depending on how you do it mind you, you don't have to dig out the shortcut but regardless if you do or not... If you go the 'preferred' route of leveling up your major workers to level 2, build extra worker majors, get them to level 2 (about 3-4 more plus the ones you start with, and then start excavating the standard ant chamber of 19 tiles, and start making minor workers you can powerspeed your economy if you micromanage and avoid engaging the earwigs. From there you have two choices and whatever you build/focus on will allow diff strategies. If you focus on the Minor Soldiers you can get a lot of them about 19 by the morning of day 2 (when you get attacked) and additional ones if your quick/efficient enough at harvesting, and especially if you have at least 10 more worker minors. If you choose to go Major Soldiers, you'll only have about maybe 9-10 if your as efficient/quick, but both methods can deal with the first assault from the matabele with diff results. If you go the minor soldiers, you'll suffer casualties, a lot of them, and while you won't kill as many if your in enough numbers you can get about enough so that the northern colony will be attacked and then you. If you however go the major soldiers, you 'must' get about 10 with food reserves or else you won't survive, but if you go majors, their high hp and ability to speed up attacks of allies will kick in and rip the matabele, and if you lure them into your nest you can bottleneck them so they can't all attack at once, and slowly take em out in small batches (something that annoyed me when i tried fighting them, being bottlenecked but in reverse) and the major's power kills enough matabele so that you have 2 waves of space to prepare for the next assault while the tunnel cavern technique (not digging otu a shortcut from your worker majors to the tunnel entrance) is a long path, it 'will' allow you to bottleneck them as said, and again depending on what you go for, this can be a boon. the MAJOR problem i encounter however, is when they enter the nest they'll often attack my termite minor workers who are trying to get food to eat and then deposit as fungus. One thing i did was dig out a new area to the 'right' of where your fungus storage is, specifically where those mini earwigs sit and build a food storage/drop off area there. It takes my workers a while longer to deposit it, but during raids i'm able to protect my minor workers and they can do their jobs safely, while the soldeirs go and get themselves massacred and sacraficed to the matabele feeding table. This way my minor workers don't accidentally keep wasting food trying to run through the melee trying to get food and rinse/repeating, and instead can safely get their food, digest, and replant eggs during the raid.
Yep, a pretty good strat indeed. As for the final one, where the termite minor workers get killed trying to get more dead leaf, you can always turn off digesting for them to make them focus on nest work only.
My first glimpse at a Velvet worm was catching it going underground during free play and I've been wondering if I was just crazy.

All termines mounds empty? Noice I aslo kill the 3 termine mounds without New game plus
Yep lol, it’s not too hard once you get the hang of it
I got regicide from playing impossible w/challenge. I'm curious to see how you'll do "Fast food"
I did fast food in like… 34 mins I think it was, so it was pretty decent imo lol
everytime i put a youtube bot reply it gets deleted 😭
Bonnie
It’s a bit weird, don’t know why the bots would delete it
I'll be honest, this one caught me off guard when I first played it, not knowing how to set up the termite nest. Thankfully I managed to figure out the mechanics quickly on round 2. Didn't really figure out how the termite resistance bar really worked. Like, I know it goes up when you knock out/kill an ant, but does killing a medic increase it more? How much does it go up killing a recuperated unit? I also think this was the first time I had put termites in multiple control groups.
Was a nice surprise to play as termite. They work pretty similarly to leafcutters, having other castes for certain jobs. And it does seem like different ants killed change the score. Seems like it’s based on the ant’s score. (Each creature has a score that totals at the victory screen)
And yes, using multiple markers for termites is needed. Better to have the soldiers on a different group from the major workers, since you don’t want the soldiers to gather (their gathering value is terrible)
Was hoping to see this one done
It is here!
Why do you always disable enemy mounting? Is it less effective?
Stuff with flashbuffs (army ant major and termite major soldier) cannot apply their buffs if they are mounted. Other ants with abilities such as confusion, physical reduction or DOT cannot it either when mounted. Its best to keep a few units on the ground. If you have a ton of spare units, you can make them mount.
With llaves i mean leaves
One bad thing is i can"t complete the 3.2 imposible challenge the achievemnt that you have to collect all llaves bc 30 food are bug next to a Pink flower at the top right not able to collect
Yep, it should be getting fixed in the next patch.
Aslo you noticed they buff the bigheaded Major soldiers and achievements are posible now in New game plus?
yep! I still see the bigheaded majors as bad; they need a pretty big boost to make them worth it. Or nerf the workers. And yes, achievements can be done on NG+. I've done all of them before, just waiting for 5.x achievements.
Finally i see somebody with the Beta in the game i fiel i was the only one
Theres quite a few people in the beta. Most are in the discord, posting their findings and thoughts on the new balances.
Yippee
Yippe, Indeed
Nappy what if you camp outside their nest at 12k collected and bumrush or is the death stack of majors centered on the queen at all times?
Not a good idea, the majors that spawn when they raid you come from a spawner, so they will constantly get free major spawns. If you’re gonna camp and starve them, better to do it before you reach 11,500 leaves, since that’s when they send their raids.
@@NappyB1 So the strat is to starve them?
@@crikerstudios yes, if they don't have gatherers, they can't grow.

Yep lol. Redoing missions over and over for the achievement recordings will snag a ton of food. Way too much I had in storage lol
What is the strat for this level is it just to spam lvl 1 soldiers and medics?

Hi
hi
Great gameplay! I cant help but notice, though, that apparently according to the difficulty you start with less soldier ants.
yep, on easier difficulties, you start off with more starting soldiers. The same thing occurs on 5.2, higher difficulty = less starting soldiers.
Nice
real
It was updated ?
Sorta, the beta only added new textures to the environment and ground. I meant updated as in an updated video from the one I made uploaded back in June, where that recording was during the beta testing phase of the level, had 3.1 music, old strats and such.
@@NappyB1 oh okay, thank you
there is a new update?
Sorta, there is a public beta currently going on, more information on steam or the slug disco discord. The reason why I called this video updated is because the first video I have of this level was recorded back during the beta tester phase. It has the old 3.1 music, old loading menu screen, and my older tactics and such.
@@NappyB1 oh ok
I forgot to mention, nice scavenger hunt
Thanks!
Hi
Hi
What do you mean by "updated"?
The first video of 5.1 I recorded was during the beta. That was like in May, before the update dropped, hence the old loading screen, 3.1 music, stuff like that. I updated to show the more modern way I play 5.1 now. It'll be the same for all 5.x levels.
Oh, that makes sense, thanks. Does that mean upgrading soldiers is viable?
That’s what I did, yea. As long as you have a ton of FR medics, you can spare food to upgrade soldiers.
The gameplay is so smooth, wish I had that
i can also beat this level on impossible but not so smoothly and only with fast responder
@@tomaszszyjanowicz2650 I meant the graphics, not exactly your colonies performance but cool

Why does scientist 1 didn't Finnish the experience but scientist 2
This was the final experiment in the lab. Scientist 2 kept us because he wasn't finished and wanted to see how far we could go.
Would if be better if the bugs team up with the leaf cutter ants and fight against the army ants.
The army ants killed by wandering enemies don't count towards draining the bar.
Just lost the way is shut achievement to a spiderling
ouch, must've been an ouchy. Recommend staying outside the entire time at nights 2 and 3. To kill those wandering enemies.
BRO THATS 200K HP, MORE THAN BULL FROG AND EMPERROR SCORPION!!!!(They've only 30k hp)
Yep, the Nian Beast is a massive tank. Emperor scorpion has 70k health on impossible, which is not even half the health of the Nian.
How painful was this? Also i noticed you practicing killing tiger beetle larvae in your previous video
Wasn't too bad, managed to do it first try. There's enough tiger beetle larvae on the up most layer to win the level on days 2 and 3. The hardest part was the closest part at the middle of night 3.
Nice
yeah
I realize now that you spent a lot of food on speed tiles lol. You only need 1 per "cluster" to bait the wolf spiders, that was a bit painful to watch hah
Oh really, I just wanted to make sure that the spiders really split up lol.
