Welcome! I am a screenwriter who has been writing for about 10 years off and on. I created this channel to talk about a subject that is pretty sparse which is screenwriting software. As I have spent several years on this channel working on doing reviews for screenwriting software and help guides, I have also been making more general screenwriting content. I love making this content because I hope it will allow other writers to make better films. So thank you for coming along on the journey. I hope to be one of the people that helps you in your writing journey. May the next script you write be that next blockbuster we will all love. Happy Writing!
Top 5 Screenwriting Software for 2025: A Screenwriting Software Nerd's perspective.
This year I am doing something a little different for my top software list. I am highlighting software that I think is affordable, innovative, and more importantly comes from companies who care more about the user experience. Also I am working on one of my first courses for how to use different screenwriting software. Stay until the end to see what one I have been working on first.

Your A jerk
Thank you for doing this review. I think keeping it to five made it easier. I am looking at all five to evaluate which fits me. I would like to see how Scrite holds up to these. Update: Noticed that ScriptStudio was the only company on BlueSky I messaged the others to ask if they had a BlueSky account. I don't use Twitter or FB for, well, 'nuff said. In chat the SoCreate person helping me said she would pass that info on to CEO and within ten minutes I received a message that they joined BlueSky! I got to be the first follower! Little pleasures. This may sway me to buy their product. I am evaluating several you mentioned.
I am glad you found it helpful. The main difference between Scrite and these other programs is sort of the underlying principle it is based on. If you like Scrite these might feel a little bit foreign because of this difference in Scrite approach to writing screenplays. I think it is a good approach it is just difference then most of the software on the market.

How do you format Fade In for stage plays?
When you first pull up Fade In where it asks you want file to open there should be a list of templates that you can select on. One of them is stage play. If you don't see that you can go to File>New from Template> select stage play.
Looking at Katalist, Boords and Storyboardhero. Boords trial is hopeless, I got one image and then they're asking for an annual sub. Supposed to be a 14 day trial. The other two have the 7 day trial, I may try. Haven't watch this vid yet, but I liked the way I could upload the whole screenplay and they separated it into units that could be sketched. Was wondering how the character consistency would be though... That would be a huge plus.
I'm not seeing the benefit of FD 13
There are not really a lot, which is why most people were disappointed with it.

There was a feature which was easily accessible to me in FInal Draft 8 - and that was changing the text colour (With big T) and Fill Colour - right up there in the main head bar - now in Final Draft 13 I do not know how to get it up there - visible - and accessible - so that I do not have to go through FORMAT and selecting FONT to change the colour of the text or a filling a particular selected text with a colour - Can lyou tell me how to do it in FD 13?
Right click on the toolbar and that will show you all the things you can add to the toolbar. Unfortunately, the only thing having to do with colors that I think you can add is highlighter. Give it a look see to make sure I didn't miss it. Otherwise you have to use the menus.

@@StreetLifeIndia Awesome! Good, I am glad you found a solution.
I used to be an early days evaluator for FD and I cannot believe it took them THAT long to introduce Unicode input. I write in four languages (English, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi) and have had translations into two other (Nepalese and now Malay), and I would be dead trying to use anything other than Fade In. The productions I worked on would have thrown any amount of money to just get something that works! People are still surprised that the 79.95 is a ONE TIME payment. Fade In Pro has saved me hours of pain and heartache, although in order to maintain the page per minute standard in other languages, we have to change the element settings, width of dialogue etc. owing to linguistic differences. Some day, AI will do that, but for now, even this is not hard to do. Thank you Fade In Pro folks!

Keep up the great work my friend. Question? What do you think about the replacement for Kit Scenarist?
Thank you so much! I like Story Architect, I think it is a good follow up software to Kit Scenarist. Of all the software I use though, I tend to use other stuff that I have used for longer. This year I am going to do a better job of just focusing on one software at a time so I can be more proficient with all of them.
how do you print scene view or how do i print the scene and description only?
There is not a way currently in Final Draft 13 to do this that I can find. You can switch to index card view and print out the index card of that scene. However there is a more convoluted way that might work. To copy a scene summary into the scene in the script Select the scene from which the summary is to be copied. More than one scene may be copied; Right-click or Control + click on one of the cards and from the context menu choose Document > Send to Script; Go to Insert > Send to Script; On the keyboard press Command + Shift + C. The summary text for each selected scene becomes an action element after that scene’s scene heading. If there is already content in the scene, the summary information will be added as an action element at the end of the scene. You can delete the other stuff off this page, which is not the scene and summary, of your script and then print out that page of your script. Let me know if that works. Again it is convoluted. Personally I wonder if printing off the index card view would be more what you are looking for.

I currently have iA Writer on my Mac, and as I was gifted an Apple gift card over the holidays, I’m now trying to decide if I should get iA Writer for iPhone so that I can work from anywhere when away from my MacBook, or if I should get a dedicated software like Scrivener on my Mac, as I’m interested in writing a screenplay as well as a short novel. The downside to Scrivener is that I would have it only on my Mac for a long while as I don’t have the funds for the iOS version. However, as an experienced writer yourself, I wanted to ask if you feel like I could have a pleasant writing experience working on screenplays and short novels using iA Writer between my Mac and iPhone or do you recommend me getting Scrivener on my Mac instead?
@@mr_red13 A couple of things to consider. Do you like writing on your phone or do you prefer using your Mac? Do you want it as docx file? Or are you wanting to paste it in a word doc file?
Great job my friend.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it!
I might sound stupid by saying this but what is formatting? Why do we need it?
Good question. Format is how the different parts of the screenplay fall on the page. The dialogue has to be placed a certain way on the page which is different than how the actions lines are. The reason we format is it tells us very easily when we look at a page whether what we are reading is a character name, what they are saying, or what they are doing. I hope that makes sense. If it doesn't let me know.

Storywork is really useful and very intuitive. Thanks for ht heads up about this app.
I love using it and it has really helped me better construct my stories. I am glad you are finding it helpful!
Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly.. and I could swear when I looked at the name Storywork with a magnifying glass it said works..lol
No worries! Happy to help. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Thank you for the video. Final Draft is just so buggy for PC. Beat Board as such is nice but no backward integration with script. Waste of money in my view. Going to try Scrite and maybe SoCreate.
update: fdx-import into Scrite not working. Uninstall.
update: Story Architect looks cleaner than Final Draft but if beats are only something like sub-scenes, what is the point? The AI integration is a nice idea but should be an add-on once everything else is super.
I would tell you to take a look at Socreate or Fade In.
@@kookma4716 I will have to look into that. They had it working before...I wonder if they haven't updated Scrite to the new version of fdx.
@@kookma4716 I agree with you. I think they are trying to be the leader in the A.I. space but like you said they have a lot more basic stuff that they need to focus on.
You're talking so fast.. I'm trying to write down the names of the 3 you reviewed. Next time before you sign off will you please repeat the names of programs..I think the names are Katalyst, Fade in, and Storyworks.. did I get those right?
@@angelabaker2024 Sorry about that I will try to slow down more. The names of the software and their web addresses are in the description of the video. The only I didn’t put in was fade in. The reason I didn’t put fade in into the description because the table read feature is available in a lot of different screenwriting software. You are right about the names except it is storywork not storyworks. I hope you found the video helpful.
Thank you so much, you saved me a lot from subscribing to Celtx. I downloaded the Fade In tried it and bought it. Thanks a lot once again.
Thank you maaaan! Awesome tutorial. 😃
Glad you liked it! Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you very much!
