Man, i grew up 5 minutes away from the Paw Paw stop, never rode the KLSC, I was 9 years old when this video was taken! I've stopped and photographed all of the intersections shown in 2022. To "time travel" like this is so cool!

Fun to watch. Grew up not far from Olive and Western so all of these photos brought back fond memories. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for this video! I grew up in MIchigan City in the 50's and early 60's and was interested in the South Shore. But as a kid was unaware of all the CSS&SB freight activity in South Bend. Very interesting with great photos of some of the sidings and customers.

Thanks for that and Hi from the UK, again. It was real good learning about all that Railroad-served Industry. I'm looking forward to Pt.2, but I hope that the NICTD are able to make it closer into the centre of South Shore. Whilst there may have been some valid reasoning for tearing-up the Tracks into SB, I personally am firmly of the opinion that cutting-off SB from a Rapid Transit Suburban Railroad that went right into the centre of Chicago was a foolish and very short-sighted decision.

In the late 70's I watched the NJI&I start up their SW switcher one evening and then go to work. Their connection at Pine was with the previous Wabash main line which by that time had been absorbed into the N&W along with the NKP. If I recall correctly, the NJI&I once had a small yard near their office north of the NYC main, but it was gone by the time of my visit. I wish I'd spent more time investigating the NJI&I and Elkhart & Western when I'd had the chance.

Fun watching and thinking that this was over 30 years ago and Hesston is still going after all these years. Knew people who volunteered so it was fun looking for them in the video.

I was one of the Engineer, Conductor, Fireman, Trainman on the KLS&C from 1988 until the end in 1994. I ran all of their engines during my time there. What a great experience for the model railroader to have running real equipment! The Conductor was the late Sheldon Boothe. I was on that run. When you show our "depot" back at Paw Paw, I am the tall guy with Sheldon in the USAF dark blue coat next to Sheldon!!! One of the scenic train coaches is now part of the Club Car Restaurant. The location is D Avenue West of US 131 towards Alamo in Michigan. Thanks for the memories!!!!!

Hi, thanks for the video. I looked-up 'Kalamazoo lakeshore Paw Paw Michigan USA' on Edge Maps and picked-up the old Track-bed at 38th St. followed it East as far as I could and West to where the Track remains in use. It was a good bit of fun, thanks.

I just happened to be in Chicago and heard that they were going to stop running the last of the old interurbans. So I went to the station and explained my desire to the lady at the ticket counter. She said, "You must be nuts." And off I went to Michigan City and back. Interesting. Now we in the SF Bay Area are getting more and more rail service, some of which are effectively Interurbans but DMUs. Oh, and the trains south from San Francisco are going to be replaced by EMUs this fall. That has been double track since the 1800s. I just hope to live long enough to see the HSR arrive in the city. I'm Trump's age, so we shall see... or not.

Would have loved to see closeups of the crewman. I'm always looking for my dad in one of these videos. He was my hero.

The real Speed Champion is the North Shore Line running at speeds around 90 miles an hour going into Wisconsin and speeds of 80 miles an hour south of Waukegan ILL. The Chicago Aurora and Elgin was the second fastest of the Interurbans running around 75 miles an hour and able to make really quick station stops.
