Travelling countries in Africa, which are mostly immensly different from where I come from, it is a given that there are many things I am not familiar with.
Here something that irritates me... it is illegal in Europe, just because it is dangerous for the others... and instead of transfer at least some of our good practices in Africa (or wherever it is) we "the highly moral" westerners say : f**k it no body cares! THAT SUCKS! 😡
Hello! What are you referring to? I can't quite follow.
@@roadlessroaming your illegal, by your own words, head lights mate... you will never ever think about driving with this lights in Germany - right. But because the control in Africa and anywhere in the "thirds world" is loose "we" violate the safety, instead exactly there to show how its done and how important those safety rules are! We only pretend for moral superiority and democracy... Safe trip!
Ah I see now. But to be honest, that's nothing to worry about. If you see the vehicles on the road, how people drive, how the accidents happen and that people die because of really stupid reasons, you don't even think about a tiny little detail such as the EU Standard of headlights anymore. Plus on top, in some other countries, most probably even some European countries (or the US) they would be totally legal. Just as an example, people here often use cheap 12v construction side LEDs as headlight replacements. They are literally taped in place or fitted with 2kg of filler. Or they just drive without lights at all. The "illegal" LEDs in my headlights are by far superior to many things on road here.
@@roadlessroaming Yes, but the point is why you lower the level to their (most of them are doing it just to survive - you, sorry for the bit harsh statement, just drive your rich european a** arround the world - no offend, figuratively said) instead keep the high EU levels up! You can drive the damn car without any lights in worst case you'll pay bribe and continue - the damn question is: Is if f**king right?!!! More over there are plenty of legal solutions for good light offered by well known brands like Osram, Philips and so on...
First: Great Vid. Love the quality. Second: a shame so many people are getting worked up about the title. I'm gonna offer a compromise solution.... Just read the first word as an ADJECTIVE, OR a proper noun. Whichever suits you.... NOW, you can choose whether you're in the area where the Saharan desert clearly meets the West Coast. The Western Sahara, OR in Moroccan Sahara, ... Or all of them!..... Mind Blown!
I would be interested in a deeper dive into your navigation setup! Could be a short, just keen to know how you tackled the offline-ness of many parts of africa
sorry to hear about you father, I'm sure he is increadibly happy and proud of you for taking on this adventure, and good on you for making the videos and keeping him posted!! ps i have no idea what you said in german but i'm sure it was sweet safe travels!!
Thank you for your comment. And thanks for watching all the way to the end. :)
Hi Ben, your journey is undoubtedly beautiful and magical but I imagine it is also straining and lonely. Hope you manage to stay positive and optimistic. You are doing something unique and will have fantastic memories. I hope to see you on the road some time, I’m currently building my Land Cruiser! Kind regards
What wonderful words. Thank you so much. It is indeed lonely sometimes and definitely straining. But the loneliness transforms more and more towards just enjoying being alone. It's a whole journey by itself. Link your Instagram for your build if you have. Would be nice to see what your dream setup will look like. 🙏🏼
Wow, cool.
(*Spoiler Alert) 😭
wonderful job
🙏🏼 Thank you. :)
How is this setup working for you in a hot and humid climate like equatorial Africa? I'm thinking a lot about the pros and cons of tents/pop up roofs vs. closed spaces. Your setup looks very cozy and I imagine it can feel very safe. I like the overall setup a lot!
That's a good question. Generally I would say, that it is pretty good. Right now it's the rainy season where I am at. The humidity would be high in any type of setup. What I would have an eye on is the size and type of the windows, especially in the roof. The bigger, the better. If you can open it when it's raining heavily it's even better. I would not go with a tent or a soft sided pop up. The rain and the wind can be heavy and therefore super loud. And as you mentioned, it feels safe. If there are unanswered questions, feel free to reach out any time. ✌🏼

Great videos - and informative for those of us coming after you. Thank you. What mix of Go Pro/360 are you using? I love the TPF video game style - Insta360? All the best. Travel safe.
Thank you! At the moment there are no videos as I still don't have a new/fixed laptop. So sorry for that first of all. I am using a DJI Action, Insta360. In the future there will be a drone. Fingers crossed I will find a solution for the laptop. Thanks for watching!

Nice people. Very bad luck with the water and the camera. Maybe putting it into dry rice helps, if you find some somewhere. It’s supposed to dehydrate. Good luck and take care 💙

@@roadlessroaming great hearing you're safe my friend. Look forward to hearing all about your journey
Its name is the Moroccan Sahara .Are you with us or with them
I am on a side where every human or group of people (in this case a country), have their freedom and the rights to choose independence if they wish to do so. Everything else is only a view full of hate and greed which leads to crime and war. I guess you are Muslim? If so, then respect everyone else and treat everyone equally, like your religion tells you, without forcing your personal, egoistic and narcissistic opinion on someone else.
@@roadlessroaming I agree with you, my dear brother, but in this case, the so-called Western Sahara is not a 100% humanitarian issue or a liberation issue as you think, but rather it is an issue that Algeria created and is paying a lot of money to divide and isolate Morocco. It also wants an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean, this is clear to everyone.
A good look into reality,👍
I really like how you allowed your guide to speak at length in his own language about the situation in St Louis. This is what I wish more travel vloggers would do, as it provides a much more in-depth knowledge about a place. Thanks, and keep it up!
Yes absolutely. I try to talk to as many locals as possible and ask then about their view and opinion. Understandably most don't want to be on camera. I try to implement this more and more as these kind of things are the topics which move me the most and change my view on many things. Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙏🏼
If you leave comments on the video, please leave them on long enough, so that everyone can read them, they need to be on the screen longer, only 10 or 20 seconds more would make this much easier, if you want us to follow your vlog.
Thanks for the feedback. I try to leave it on screen longer next time. :) 🙏🏼
oui c'est complique c est passage de frontières avec carnet sans carnet personnes ne sais vraiment comment faire ainsi que pour les visas
Great video...what was the price of the carnt de passage. That you didn't buy
The price for the carnet is not the problem mostly. But if you don't have a bank who supports you with the Carnet de Passage, who have to put down a deposit of a certain percentage of your car. And that depends on your country. For me, that was simply not possible.
Interesting video. 250 EUR is way expensive I suppose but then I am sure the cake has to be shared with many. What is the name of the Mauritania / Senegal border? Name of the border towns in each country.
Thank you. :) It is crazy expensive, considering that one doesn't pay that when entering from the south for example. It's the Diama Border. Rosso, the other border in the north is even worse. It's known to better be avoided.
But I believe it’s part of travel experience. Have a great journey onward
@@roadlessroaming I heard of that cost`s without the carnet. It is nothing compare what to pay for the carnet. And considering may also if you loose it... The carnet is "just" one year valid. You are documentfree on the road. enjoy it. Danke für das mitnehmen!
@fa7842 That's true! The document is just borrowed and you have to organise the return after one year if I remember correctly. And you have to get a new one. I already forgot about those things. The only positive thing is, that you don't have to argue as often at the borders. And is you lose your car for any reason, most likely in an accident, you have to try to get your deposit back. Basically it's a bit headache for a small benefit.
@@roadlessroaming Exactly what i meant
Excuse my ignorance, what is a carnet de passage?? And what's the name of the river you crossed into Senegal?? Great video by the way.. 👌
Sorry right, I didn't explain. The "Carnet de Passage" ( sometimes it has different names) is basically the passport for the vehicle. You have to put a deposit down for your car, which was too expensive for my taste. The river is just called River Senegal as far as I know. It's not a very big one and follows the border of Mauritania and Senegal. Thanks for asking and thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
@@roadlessroaming Oh, thank you so much.. 🙏🏾
Any vehicle searches when entering Senegal? And I forgot to ask… how did you go about getting a SIM card while you were in Mauritainia? I’ve heard it’s not easy?
I didn't have my car checked, it didn't seem like anyone would care to be honest. I got a Sim card before entering Senegal which was super easy. A bit expensive compared but okay. My priority was having internet once I enter. No registration, no nothing. :)
Watching from Nairobi Kenya 🇰🇪
Welcome to my channel! I am looking forward to experiencing Kenya. :)
Very nice ben.
Hope your journey is going smoothly now. Watch out for the human vultures 😂😂😂 stay safe. God richly bless you on this journey.
We never got to meet any of the people. This was the most boring this video I ever saw, and I’ve seen many of your videos. They’re all boring. You got a lot to learn about being a videographer.
The gift asking will get worse but there is good medicine; tell them that you have been in contact with the Ambassador and they advised you not give any gifts (or money or coffee money, or beer) because that can easily be misinterpreted or misunderstood as illegal or corrupt! And we both don't want that right ??? 😄. It worked well for us... And it actually was a tip from an Ambassador.
Greetings Ben. It was a pleasure sharing some of your journey in Fajara. Just remember Ben be mindful of others trying to take from you. You're going to learn amazing things. Be blessed on your journey.
It absolutely was a big pleasure for me too. The days in Fajara have taught me a lot. A very valuable experience for sure. Good luck and all the energy for your life journey! 🙏🏼

Will do definitely... 🙏🏼
Thanks for the great videos
... and thank you for watching!
Congratulations on passing Mauritania. How come you didn’t make an attempt to head over to Richat Structure?
Thank you. I heard that the Richard Structure is only really visible from above and nothing too special when you stand nearby. And as the roads there are pretty hard on the car I have decided to not go. (And many other reasons)
Durchdachtes Fahrzeug! Probs an den Vorbesitzer und sinnvolle Erweiterungen hast du gemacht. 👍🏼 Was wiegt die Kiste reisefertig mit vollen Tanks?
Absolutely! That reminds me of something very interesting maybe. The creator of this car spent a lot of time developing this car. It all started very small with the base car and a roof top tent on the pickup bed. It wasn't created from scratch but rather with experience. Very often we lack that patience ending up changing so many things, rather than starting small and growing with our needs for the journey. Of course that's not always possible and that's why I bought it rather than build. Next time I know what I like and can create something tailored. I never put it on a scale but I guess it weighs around 2.5t fully loaded. :)
forum.buschtaxi.org/viewtopic.php?t=31761&start=105 I don't know if a link works, that's the nerdy history of my Hilux. Maybe it's useful to some people. :)
Tremendous...keep living the dream!

Great rig mate. Could you do a video of the design process for the aluminium fold down table please?
Thanks man. I will try to fit it in somewhere. What do you want to know exactly. Maybe I can already help here. :)
@@roadlessroaming how you go about designing something to scale in Fusion 360 that can be fabricated by a sheet metal shop. I suspect many people building rigs would like to have things like custom brackets made.
It's actually pretty simple. I haven't done any of this before and I had to learn it for the car. Usually, it's just about precise measuring. If it's more complicated and can't be measured easily, I take a picture from as far away as possible (for little distortion and perspective warps), use it as an imprint for the first steps in Fusion. The 3D printed interior light in the car is done that way. Works perfectly.
@@roadlessroaming Thank you, that's great 👍
just discovering you today living my dream..(in a different vehicle🤓)...be sure to go through kenya...
Kenya is definitely one of the countries I cannot wait to see. What vehicle would you choose or do you have?
@@roadlessroaming land cruiser 78 series.. i love the idea of a troopy build..
That's a dream vehicle for that. Doesn't get any better in my opinion. Will you make videos of the build? Would love to see that.
It’s worth mentioning that camping on the beach in Morocco is not allowed… if the coastguard or Police see you they will most certainly ask you to leave. In my experience it’s better to go inland where I don’t get seen or raise any attention.
Very often the police or military came around and asked me for my passport. It usually was okay to park and stay there then. But it could happen that they ask you to move.
