Hi Ben, just finished watching your cdt hike - congrats!!! Just wondering please - were you getting weather updates from your phone when in range or you had a garmin watch or something? Also what powerbank did you use? Thanks!
Hi Tash. I just got weather updates on my phone when I had service. Being up high you get service often. Powerbanks, just two anker 10,000s. Could of probably got away with one tbh
@@anothertravelflog thanks so much for your reply. Hope life's been good since your finish and look forward to watching any future hiking adventures you might have.
@@tash4249 I have put on about 18kgs since I finished haha , and I have plantar fasciitis in both feet, so not sure when/ if there will be another one. Never say never
@@anothertravelflog oh plantar fasciitis sucks bad hey! Lots of ppl have had success with it being able to be fixed though, so if the hiking bug gets into you again there'll be a way. As you say, never say never!
Thank you
Thank you for posting. Really enjoyed your content .
Thanks Bill
Thanks for your videos, I’m looking to do the AAWT in a couple years. Your Durston tent, would you recommend the single or double? Cheers mate.
The single works. The double is pretty big, maybe not that practical if you're in a pinch for a spot late in day and there's only a small site. Though if you want to spend more time relaxing the double would be good. Good luck !
amazed how many snakes you come across, love your chatter.
So San Pedros Parks remind you of New Zealand? Very interesting! I’ve never been to NZ, but I’ve been to SPP many, many times! So love it! Loved your videos!
Amazing hike... Congrats, mate!!
Thanks Matt
Getting excited to see the ending. Stunning views around every corner..
Absolutely stunning scenery wow....
Love it when you say "hike your own hike man" in your Australian accent, snarky way lol.. Cracks me up.. Definitely desolate country in Wyoming.. Looking forward to grizzly country..
Haha...lots of U.S hiking podcasts in the years leading up..
I love your journey so far.. It's hard to be depressed in such beauty I'd imagine.. I can only dream of such places...
I never realized how beautiful New Mexico was.. I always thought it was mostly desert. Gorgeous country..
weight on day one and weight on finish day?
I'm pretty sure it was 77kgs, and finished at 65.8kgs. what's that ,25lbs? Funnily I'd lost most of that by 2 weeks into Colorado, then I stayed at a similar level after. 6 months on im over 80kgs...
Thank you
Really enjoyed watching your thru-hike and joined your channel. Congratulations on a beautiful but tough hike. I thru-hiked the AT in 2020, and would recommend mixing that one in before the PCT. Just more resupply opportunities and water sources throughout, which requires less weight to carry. Plus, a lot more social.
Thanks for watching. Yeah not sure when I'll be back , just have to see what happens, for now back to normal life...
Just binge watched your videos and enjoyed following along. I'm doing my research going into this years CDT class. Out of curiosity, how did you get from the terminus back to civilization?
Good luck, it's coming around quick now. How are the snow levels shaping up, I haven't been taking notice ? From the border I hitched back to East glacier. There's an Amtrak station there that goes to Portland or Seattle each night. I got the train to Portland and flew to LA from there, then back home. Some people went to Kalispell and flew out of there .
Is Happy's Hut still there after the fires?
No , it's not so happy now... I am not sure if it's scheduled to be rebuilt or not
Great memories (2018). I enjoyed that icecream. Well done Ben.
Well done Peter on finishing
@@anothertravelflog heading to MWT soon.
Even greater appreciation for your efforts and character in view of your political commentary. Good on you mate. 👍🏼
Haha, they were dark days
This is absolutely box office. Legendary stuff
Well done. Enjoyed your videos and commentary. I did it sobo this year; quite an adventure.
Congrats! Did we pass ?
@@anothertravelflog I don't think so.
BEER MONEY! I didn't know you had an f'n youtube channel dude lol. Thanks for helping to relive this Chama to Pagosa stretch!!! I still remember when you tried to go up and over the mountain to avoid that crazy traverse but we did it anyway. Happy I was able to get those rad pictures of you while you were practically shitting your pants hahahaha. Love you brother, till next time. -Diehard
Haha, I kept it pretty quiet as the general vibe to TH-camrs was disdain. I remember telling you at one point , think at that brewery early on. I watched that episode back last weekend, good times Leanne Rimes ! Thanks for guiding me through. That cover photo was the sketchiest part of the entire trail , apart from a couple of thunderstorms at night where I was pretty certain I was going to die
Your videography is fantastic. I'm a Kiwi tramping Nana and I enjoy your down to earth style. My friend and I are tramping TA next summer. Spending this year doing multi day tramps to strengthen ourselves. 😅 I'm looking forward to your CDT hike as well. Keep up the great work! 😊
Thanks Gypsy girl. Good luck on the TA !
i enjoyed that walk of yours cheers
Thanks Shaun
hi! what about the resume, or how ever you wanna call it, what you „promisst“ us? i would be very happy!
A review video? I spent a few hours a couple of weeks ago breaking down the costs and writing them down. Haven't got around to videoing yet...maybe in the next week or two, maybe haha
Ben a merry Christmas and a happy new year thank you for the info on the CDT
No worries, happy new year!
Greetings, Mr. Jones. Did you have a Merry Christmas? When can we expect to see you again here in America as you prepare to tackle the PCT? Finally, you should consider taking on the Eastern Continental Trail (ECT). That one will keep you occupied for a long time. Please do come back to the USA. You are a credit to Australia and your personality is a much needed breath of fresh air. I toast you, sir, with a just opened bottle of Mountain Dew, or Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, Cherry Coke, Fanta Grape, 7-Up, Sprite…..anything but beer as I am not much for beer. Happy NewYear and all the best in 2024 as you (hopefully) prepare to tackle the remaining two giants on the American Triple Crown of hiking.
Unfortunately I got a two year ban for littering... Haha no, thanks for the kind words, but I am back to normal life for now. Maybe some smaller Aussie stuff , I've got plenty of other non hiking interests that keeps me busy. I've definitely got the PCT southbound on the list, possibly 2026 if I was to guess, but I wouldn't rule out 2025, we'll see ... Happy New Year !
That snow in the trees situation just tires me out looking at it...:D I remember in May 2022, how green the hillside above Cuba looked after the desert.
Great vids Ben! You mentioned Catherine to Barry Saddle took you over 8 hours. I'm wondering how you compare the difficulty and time to the section between Mt Mcdonald and Chesters Yard? Also, how many hours a day were you averaging?
I think my info is outdated now , as I'm pretty sure they cleared a section after Catherine saddle. It's still slow going over that rocky part but. Hit up Mick Beckers, he's just uploaded really good videos of his walk from a month ago , he'll be more accurate on current track conditions. The two sections you mention were the slowest for me though for sure.
thanks for the speedy reply! I'll check that out. Sorry to pester but what were you shortest and longest days timewise? @@anothertravelflog
@@timchilman shortest , I think I did an 8km day due to rain/snow.... As far as terrain-quickest, once you hit cowombat just before the border, you can go as quick as you want. Where as most of Vic is a slog, apart from bogong high plains. Length of day is dependent on where you want to camp. Slowest kms, definitely Mt McDonald to Mt clear, and Catherine saddle to Barry saddle. There's a lot of up and down that's slow also, depends how fit you are, I'm no athlete
I'm sorry for the commercials that now litter my videos , I didn't put them there . If I get 1000 subscribers I can take them off, I'm not trying to make money from this clearly..

No I did not leave the beer can, bear spray or $3000 worth of gear in my pack on the ground. It was clearly a skit, and if that extraordinarily somehow went over your head and you're triggered, seek help
Awesome hike! I’m also glad to see the littering was just for show😂
As the song goes” then the white man dogs, they wanted all the buffalo, they could not see past their bill folds” it’s not exact but you get the point.
It’s funny back in the day I used to rock climb and mountain climb in Wyoming. We were totally clueless when it came to bears and especially grizzly bears. We took no special precautions and had no bear spray or firearms. We were very stupid but also lucky as hell. This was a long time ago. Great video and the scenery was extremely beautiful. Take care
They keep things interesting anyway! I don't get bored when I'm on alert for bears, or here snakes...any wildlife really, one of the good things about walking. I get bored when there's not much around
@@anothertravelflog For the record rattlesnakes and grizzlies have my number. I am from the East Coast of the U.S. and we don’t have many rattlers or grizzlies but when I go out West I am on high alert. I solo backpack all the time but never through grizzly country, much respect. How do you sit down with those balls of steel?
What’s a great ski year becomes a hard CDT hike. I am headed out to ski in Colorado the end of February and I hope they have a massive snow year but then I am returning in the end of August to hike the Colorado Trial. It should be nice and clear by then. That most certainly looks like a slog. You’re getting it. Thanks for sharing
What month and day of year did you start your hike.
I started April 30. Becoming a bit of a blur now, into Colorado , think I left chama around June 9, or thereabouts
@@anothertravelflog That explains why it was so hot.
I am surprised you did not get the offset version of the Duplex. I have the Duplex and never have any issues with condensation except when it’s pouring rain out. I am surprised to hear your having issues since it’s so dry out there. I hike mostly on the East coast of the U.S. and it can be super wet and humid. I have maybe 1,200 miles in my Duplex and it’s been very good. Take care
I got used to it, was just in my xmid I rarely had any condensation....having said that when I got back I did an overnighter back in the xmid on the coast and got absolutely soaked haha
@@anothertravelflog When and if someone resolves condensation issue they will rule the single wall tent market. I got stuck in my in a 10 inch down pour in Vermont this summer and it was not pretty. I slept in my rain gear. I never took my quilt out.
Well done Ben, love following you’re adventures!
Thanks so much for posting these videos. I love your comment crossing the border at Cowombat!
Thanks Mark
Can’t say I’m surprised that they have a president Obama hanging from a noose. But that’s corrupted conservatives in the US for you. 😐 Your travels look beautiful, hoping those bears didn’t give you too much trouble.
I survived!
Wow!! those Colorado mountains!
Wormwood Hikes missed Leadville when he was doing the CDT, so looking forward to your Leadville visit.
gratz on reaching 1000 miles in this Episode!!!
Hey just found your channel, looking the videos! And also the stats during your narration 👍 I am debating doing the South Island TA this summer, (prior to the GDT 🇨🇦 on July) I'm time poor, so my plan is to hitchhike as much of the roadwalks as possible to more focus on hiking in the forest. Not sure if you remember but what sort of percentage of the south was on road? And of that what was hitchable? Thanks! Greg
Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been online much. South Island on road, not much... 5 % tops that I can think of ...it's all become a bit of a blur
@@anothertravelflog ah no worries! Cheers for the reply☺️
@@Greghikes1 hope I've got that right. I'm racking my brain trying to think of road walks that I've forgot, there were a few, but maybe 50-60 kms worth all up that I can think of ...hmmm forgot about the tekapo canal section , maybe 100kms then. A lot of people ride a bike for that section
Congrats on finishing. Have enjoyed following your hike.
Thanks Greg
I ran into you at Taipo hut, that's all my crap hanging on the fence haha. Thanks for your info on the AAWT (minus mentioning the button man 😂), will be starting next week at Walhalla. Was your AAWT setup much different to your TA setup other than an extra phone for backup navigation?
Good one Maricia, I remember. Yep pretty much the same set up as the south island. Enjoy
Well done, I just stumbled on your videos while waiting to do the GPT & thinking about which hike to do in the US in 2025, I was set on the AT now u have me thinking about CDT. Thanks for your vlog & great job!
Spoilt for choices in the U.S!
That’s why I’m heading there, although with Australia’s Larapinta & overland, I am looking forward to the GPT & hopefully the AAWT one day
Congratulations! Laid up with a broken tibia whilst on the beautiful Bibbulmun and your videos have helped pass the time to recovery perfectly!
Thanks, good luck with the recovery!
