Floating Center Caps On Kansei Wheels?
This video is a quick overview of my process of making some floating center caps for my Kansei wheels using mostly stuff I had around the house. I think the only thing I didn't have were bearings, at least not ones that weren't already being used.
Tutorial I used to help with the process. It was a huge help in basic creation of a normal center cap:

NB1 Miata Projector Retrofit and DRLs?
มุมมอง 6534 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've had quite a few people ask me how I modified my headlights so I decided to make an overview video. This is not an detailed how to, but I'll provide a link below to a very detailed forum post that helped me through doing the HID projector retrofit. As for the DRL light strips, how I made them seemed more important than how I wired them. Projector retrofit info forum.miata.net/vb/showthread....

NB1 Miata Fog Light Intake Duct!
มุมมอง 4K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video i'm chasing after slightly cooler intake temps for the last time. I removed the bumper on my NB1 Miata to cut out the holes for the oem dealer option fog light bezels. Slightly Less Hot Air Intake? Cutting into the Miata.
มุมมอง 4266 หลายเดือนก่อน
Will cutting a hole similar to the one on the drivers side help get cooler air into the intake after moving it to the passenger side? Maybe a little? I don't know but cutting this hole is actually the first step in trying to get cooler air in. I initially was going to stop at just the short ram intake but cutting this hole only cost me a little bit of time. next will be ducting, just need to cu...
DIY Miata Short Ram Intake!
มุมมอง 2.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I clean up the Miata's engine bay a bit, both in washing and in swapping out the stock long tube intake in favor of a short ram intake using a 90 degree silicone elbow and a cone filter. Other Items you'll need are some 3/8 rubber tube from your local auto parts house and a 3/8 hose barb and union. I didn't link the cone filter because it's a little too big and there are better si...
Miata Carbon Cowl Cover DIY
มุมมอง 5437 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I made a cowl cover instead of just using the one I already have. Lot's of mistakes in this process, but finished product looks pretty good! I also designed some clips to hold the gasket piece in place as I noticed a lot of people remove it when installing their cowl covers, i'd assume because the stock clips arent log enough to fit in place, or maybe they have other reasons...

Miata Fuel Filter Replacement!
มุมมอง 1.9K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here's a quick video showing how I changed the fuel filter on my 99 Mazda Miata. This should be the same for miatas from 1989 - 2005, I believe the earlier ones have hose clamps instead of the disconnects. The tool I 3d printed had a comment that mentioned scaling it 15% in length helped it work better, I can confirm this. It did work for me but i think next time i'd try finding one that will d...

Airtekk Air Suspension on 99 Mazda Miata MX-5
Thanks for share the build, we need this diffuser and the muffler, how i make this?
The diffuser I custom made out of fiberglass and I hacked up my exhaust to make it center exit and added a borla muffler. End result came out pretty good.
Please can you replicate the design but on the opposite side (driver side)
Hey! Yeah, I can make the duct for the driver side and the blank for the passenger side.
Please can you replicate the design on the opposite side
My favorite new Miata creator! You’re an inspiration man
Appreciated, thanks!
Any chance you would be willing to share the model? I'm trying to design a brake duct for my NB1 and it looks like you've already cracked the code on a solid design. I'd love to build one that adapts to 3" duct hoses, and also further modify it to bolt up to the fog light brackets built into the car (my NB1 did come with fog lights). Let me know either way! Loving the videos, looking forward to see what projects you come up with next...
Do you have the file for the DRL channel?
nice only i don't like the location
There’s definitely other locations that would work, I just went with this one 😅
Super helpful, thank you!
gonna try and remember this video for when my engine idle wants to play up after i swap it in
I’m definitely interested in these! Could also be used for brake dud ring! Awesome stuff!
Definitely could, I had someone order dual blanks and they were going to use them for brake ducting. I’m currently in the middle of moving so printing is down for the moment but should be back up soon!
is this the trd style wing from carbonmiata?
I got mine from an eBay seller but the trd style from carbonmiata looks to be the same design.
@@thirdgengarage appreciate the response, car looks great :) might have to steal your wheel/tire spec that you shared in the other video
Did you ever fix the idle air control valve issue? I replaced mine and still get the idle air code and the wonky idle...its jumping from 12 or 1500 rpm down to 8 or 500 rpm at stop with clutch out. Clutch in, it idles fine.
I think I got lucky, I haven’t had much of an issue since, sometimes I have a low idle if the car is still cold but not much else
I don't even have a miata or a spoiler, but your presentation and demeanor were excellent, so I stuck around just to see the final results. Great job, buddy!!
Much appreciated, 🙏 Thank you!

Why not delete the washer fluid tank and mount it there.
I did end up deleting the washer bottle. Either location would be fine I just picked this one.
I have some of these I'm putting into a custom fog light in my Impreza. They got so hot the melted the 3d print in lest than 5 minutes. I added a voltage regulator to keep the voltage under 10vdc. They stay cool to the touch this way
Good idea! What type of filament was it? Luckily haven’t had any melting issues yet 🤞but if I do I’ll keep that in mind.
Do you think the foglights are small enough to fit inside the nb1 and nb2 signal light spot. I was thinking of doing that to mine
They’re close in size to the NB1 turn signal lens inside the headlight, I like that idea!
cool
Cool video! More important, what are those mirrors?
😁 they’re motorcycle mirrors that I adapted to fit.
It was so hard finding the size info in forums. Thank you!
Oh I know 😅, no problem!
Awesome idea and mod I have a nb1 and would love to have some fog lights hmu
Thanks! If you already have the cut outs in your bumper check out my website for the blanks or ducts, thirdgengarage.net
Do you make the cut outs?
Hellyeah that gave me motivation, this looks sick!
So im switching over to a manual setup to the feelair management, already have airlift struts and all, how was the wiring for it? Also im running a second battery in the trunk? This is for a 2016 wrx
Wiring was pretty straight forward. It comes with a full diagram to show where everything connects to. If you're already running a second battery in the trunk it's going to be even easier since all you'll need to route to the front is the accessory wire and the cable for the remote.
@@thirdgengarage for the accessory wire, where did you tap that into? I know it can be a pain to figure out?
We used fuse number 12, ecu fuse.
Just a set of dual blanks! You are a legend my friend!
I’ll get them out asap, thanks!
Excited to see how you did all the lights. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I’d be interested in buying 2 of the drivers side blanks. I got a replacement bumper with fog lights cutouts for my non fog light NB1.
Hey, thanks for the interest in these! I've added them to my site thirdgengarage.net with an option to order two blanks.
very cool i would definitely be interested in doing this to my car
From your user name id assume you have a NB2? I’m currently working on a setup for the NB2 since it’s different than an NB1, I’ll have a video coming soon about it!
@@thirdgengarage my nb2 has a nb1 face swap
@@Clean.NB2 even better, these should fit as long as you have the fog light cut outs and shrouds
great video
Thank you!
Wont your engine get hydrolocked super easy? Also The air mostly gets over The fog light just tiny weee bit of air actually gets în there
I hardly ever drive the car in the rain and I’m used to taking precautions if I do, I run a vented hood that I swap back to stock if rain is coming. I’ll probably make a cover in case of rain, but I won’t have to worry about that until the fall.
Lose the music
This channel is actually so dope.
I appreciate that, thank you!
I'd be interested in seeing if there's a difference in airflow if you reversed that funnel in the bumper. There's a book on auto aero that mentions a reverse funnel will allow airflow to expand to fill the space, where a funnel will cause turbulence on the sides and actually pull some of the air out. The book is called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. I think it's def worth looking into.
I’ve seen that book mentioned around forums, going to have to check it out, thanks! I’m also thinking the length of the first funnel and how quickly it reduces could need some reworking, but at this point I’m just guessing. 😅
great idea! if you're unsure about the UV resistance you could paint them.
Thanks! The asa filament I used should do pretty well as far as UV resistance, but I think they could do with a couple of coats of satin black anyway to darken them up.
You're coming in too low. You gotta keep the mic closer to yourself and bump up the gain. In post, you can run the compressor with a very high attack and ratio to get a nice loud voice. If you get noise you can pass it through de-noise.
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll work on it for future videos.
Building a heat shield to isolate the filter from as much engine bay heat as possible would maximize the effect.
As much as I told myself I was moving on after the duct, I think this is the move.
I want to know IAT before and after. Maybe block it off first and log without and then open it and log with.
i took a video of my iat readings before and planned on doing one after on a comparible day, 80 F, but havent yet. I like your idea, covering it then uncovering it and logging to see what happens.
What material are you printing in? What printer do you reco?
I’m printing in ASA, I’ve have good results as long as the print is at least 2mm thick, if not I get some layer separation, theirs probably something that can be done to correct this. I’m not terribly well versed on printers, first and only one I bought is the ender 3 pro, got it for cheap at micro center and have been learning on it. I think I’m pushing it printing ASA without any upgrades but so far so good.
@thirdgengarage you got the file for the piece in the video
I love how you mod your car. Well thought through and effective mods, as opposed to the usual hotboy stance Miatas.
Appreciate that, thank you!
Looks like I am too late to explain the intake: I have ran this set up before going ITBs, with stock ECU, no PS or A/C, and a full exhaust system with a cat, I ran at 126 WHP. This style intake works better for higher end power than torque. If you want optimal gains for mostly stock set up, run a large U-bend by the intake manifold, 21 inches in length.
Thanks for the info! I've seen the 21 inch U-bend intakes before with positive comments on forums. Maybe i'll give it a try in the near future.
@@thirdgengarage or go itbs lol. Either way I'm curious to see what's next.
Bro can you make a video of your headlights
Yeah, I’ll work on making an overview of them. Thanks for the request!
Nice bro what side splitters you got?
Thanks! They’re some diy Home Depot specials 😅
I have a question, in your video you are wanting temps to be 20° above ambient. But with a 140° thermostate, the operating temp will be 140°.
Correct, and at highway speeds currently I am getting about 25 degrees above ambient outside temperature. I believe the thermostat in this car is 185 degrees, but that’s for coolant, not intake air temp.
Why not lower the rad and go over it and mount the air filter in front of the rad?
@@kristofvanbecelaere4231 Good question, mostly personal preference. I've seen the formed pipes that go over the radiator and pull from in front of the radiator, I understand the fuction but am not a fan of the look of it. Also, i'm pretty sure they're designed for the NA miata. I didn't mean to start chasing after cooler air temps, but here I am. 😅 I have one last mod for this then i'm moving on to fixate on something else 😁
hey this was super helpful thanks!
No problem!
I've been thinking about switching to a short air intake, think this video is a sign for me to do it. thanks for showing the process!
Yeah, I was on the fence about it for far too long, glad I finally did it. No problem!
same bro same
hot air intake
Leroy engineering proved that there is no notable difference in terms of performance between having 60º air and 90º air, at least on a N/A engine with no other performance modifications. also as a side note, when driving, the engine bay of a miata renew it's air every 4 seconds, so its not that hot in there.
@@2seater_mx5 lol the air density would be not equal at 60 degrees and 90 degrees so how could there be no difference in performance? makes no sense
@@griffinmackenzie it's because the difference is so small it doesn't show up on a Dyno or it's negligible
@@Gizmo_- no
People arguing about 5 hp is hilarious. 🍿
it really is a negligible difference, the valve cover breather is to vent crankcase pressure, it does vent it back to the intake in a loop, but youre not giving it "unmetered" air per se if you vent it and block the hole in the intake. its more about a vacuum leak, which ive personally not seen an issue with myself running a short ram.
Yeah, Not knocking the breather filter, I haven’t heard of anyone having issues with them. It just seemed to make sense to me to keep it connected to the intake, wasn’t difficult and probably cost about the same.
did you feel a difference when advancing timing?
Yes, it’s not huge but there’s definitely a difference.
what engine do you have?
Bp4w
do you run 91 or 93?
I run 91, unfortunately 93 isn’t available near me
Thats cool as fuck!
Thanks!
