Just got mine. Can’t wait to install
I just got my first c8 3lt stingray coupe. All black and straight pressure. It’s got mag ride, drives like a dream and I’m in love. Its a 2023 with only one owner before me. I bought it with only 182 miles on her so it wasn’t even broken in. I’m now at just under 1500 miles and I’ve had it a month. It’s a second car for me. I’m on the car honeymoon now lol but when that’s over she will be parked in my garage a lot and I was nervous when I was told to wait till 7500 miles for an oil change. I wasn’t going to do that at first. I came here to educate myself on maintenance. I’ll spend the money because I want my new baby to stay good. But now I understand things better. Thanks for sharing this good info.
Buy a microphone
I put an AirTag in my car with the audio speaker disabled. That’s my Budget Lo Jack.😊
That’s about a 3% failure rate, that’s actually very high !
I am thinking about buying a Corvette. This will be my 1st one. I have had several mustangs and want to change up. My question is will the C8 ot C7 make a good daily driver?
I bought my 2021 new, and have enjoyed 8,200 miles so far. Zero issues. I broke it in carefully, and since break in I have run it plenty hard. I think your info on the batch of defective transmissions is correct. They had a supplier problem, and I have a friend that got a new transmission immediately. I do think owners need to understand how the transmission works- there is no torque converter. If you hold the car on an incline by increasing engine rpm's you are wearing the clutch just like in a manual transmission. The car is awesome!
I agree with you about the torque converter, and the comparison with a manual clutch wear. Thanks for the detailed comment, it was helpful and keep enjoying that car.
The concern I have with my C8 6.2L engine is the displacement on demand V4 switching. Lifters can get stuck and destroy the engine. Of course this would happen after the warranty expires. I plan to boost and DOD delete after the warranty expires, an expensive workaround but also preventative maintenance.
Yeah, that's one of the fall backs to the EPA regulation adjustments, I'm not a huge fan of it either but it appears to be more and more the way of the world with building engines these days. Keep me posted on how that boost and DOD delete works out.
Easy fix for GM, source a transmission from Toyota and you will not have issues.
Oooohhh if it was that simple, the DCT design hasn't been mastered by anyone and the #1 DCT transmission builder is actually the company that makes GM's Corvette Transmission. The real issue in my belief is trying to cut cost and make an affordable supercar means you don't use the highest durable parts throughout the process. You look for a tolerance level and down tune the car to work with it. You have to consider a trade off, you build a higher quality trans and the cars start at $100k or you focus on 70% of your buyers are going to be Sunday driver and never push the car to the limits so you build your transmissions around that focus and make it more affordable and sell more units. Remember the biggest reason for this video is so many owners not driving the car and haven't hit the 1 year service interval in over 2 years.
I dont want anything else ❤❤
Its a beautiful car that's fun to drive, I love it!
4:34 I called that ticking in my 2001 Corvette the "Singer sewing machine" sound. It was normal in LS motors. The LT1 in my 2017 GS didn't have it at all.
lol I like that, you are right some cars don't have it and I never understood it but a large majority do and the sound hasn't changed at all from the 2001 LS motor. So for many owners it's a common sound and we ignore it, while others hear the kiss of death and lose sleep over it.
My c8 z06 engine went at 600 miles, then the trany went. Got rid of it.
Man I hate to hear that, and you aren't the only one who has experienced 1 of the two and people that experienced both is extremely rare. I don't blame you at all and I'm sure I would have a bad taste in mouth from it. I wish you would've had a much better ownership experience, so many people I know with the Z06 and no issues love the car and say it's a driving experience like few others. It always smiles with the miles, but what did you decide to get after that?
Smell your oils dip stick i bet it will be above its mark and smell like pure gas. One of the other problems i had even with a new motor. There was a service bulletin on it.
I agree, the ring time is a nuanced subject. On one hand, as James May says, building cars for that purpose ruins them... however, where it comes to performance trims, and certainly halo cars, the ring time, and bragging rights more generally, probably _do_ matter. Maybe GM was concerned about stepping on the ZR1's toes, so they saved the track heroics for that instead?
I think it's more about the market strategy and not letting the Z06 overshadow the ZR1, which is still the top-tier model. We are starting to count hairs with performance between the cars but the power distribution between them is huge, you can't let the performance between them be two close.
I have had my 2024 C8 HTC Stingray for a year and just had the first free oil change done(4,600 miles). I plan to have it done annually no matter the number of miles. After spending $90k on the car,I am not going to cut corners due to the cost of an oil change. So far,I have not had any problems with the C8...and I love it!
That's a great way to look at it, but it's not cutting corners or being cheap if you servicing something when it says to be serviced. GM said change the oil when the indicator gets under 10%, or every 7500 miles. The indicator will read 0% between 12-16 mos depending on driving habits. The car uses synthetic oil for high performance vehicles, which is 10k mile driving oil for aggressive driving. Changing it so early and frequently is more wasteful than anything but it's your car and preserve the life the way you see fit. I put about 8k-miles on my car a year and service it when I shut it down for the season or get ready to break it out for the next one; but typically once every 12-14 mos.
You ment DTC filter

The Achilles heal of the 6.2 is cylinder deactivation. This has been a problem in multiple GM vehicles. The 5.5 does not have cylinder deactivation. Go for the Z06. 😊😊

We Talkes a while back about the C7 Manual Let you know my statid on the C7. Nobody talking about the time bomb except the dealers that have to fix them Yes MY 20017 Z06 with 7000 miles on it the clutch fell to the floor . Pulled it up and week later did it again , Dealer explained to me thease low milgae C7Z06 this happens could be a repair of 4,500 or more the torque tube will have to be droped . and the exhaust , problem air gets into sllave cynciler and they cant bleed it Master may have to be replaced I dident sigh up for all the problems sold it Got a new Supra Maunal This woube a good topic for you to talk about Edit Quote Multi Quote Quick Reply
That's interesting and I'm sorry you went through that. I don't know any one who has experienced that first hand but I do know that's part of the reasons the automatics were so popular. I have a friend that just bought a C7 Z06 manual and he just sent it straight to the shop to upgrade the clutch with 11320 miles on it. He loves to mod cars so I didn't think anything else of it, but he said the same thing you just mentioned was shared to him by his best friend, whose father is the GM of a chevy store. I'll look into it a little more and see what I find out.
Is the pink joint a NSX?
Yes sir, it's a local but very popular car that's owned by a real a cool down to earth guy in our area. I believe it's been in a commercial and a few magazines/advertisements.
I got the letter and I took my car in for the service and it cost me $1000!
Yeah, that part!!!!
GM's techs, Chevy service advisors and TH-cam influencers are all telling C8 owners synthetic trans oil in the DCTs and in dealership inventories have a shelf life of only 3 years. The trans fluid is made and bottled in Germany, bar coded and dated for 3 years but does anyone have knowledge of dealerships actually having to discard "past due" oil? Also wondering why there's no explanation how DCT oil loses its lubricity or additives after only 3 years?
It's a great question and to be honest with you I don't believe any dealer has hit a point where throwing away oil is an issue. It's still hard to get the actual suggested type for the C8 on the secondary market today and it's often on back at your local auto parts stores. For the chevy dealers, with the amount of C8s on the streets and servicing they are performing I don't believe there is a location with an inventory on their shelf over a year old. Many dealers and C8 owners struggle getting the cars in for service, often because filters aren't available or oil shipments haven't arrived so for now oil shelf life isn't an issue. With the trans fluid it get tricky because I don't believe it loses that sitting on the shelf, what GM is trying to catch is a 5 year window. The shelf life is 3 and the car is 3 to 5 with an emphasis on 3.so the real concern is performance driving on trans fluid placed in the car on the 3rd year of it's shelf life to be used for 3 years of possible track driving in the car. Around year 7 that fluid is surely exhausted and that's what they are trying to prevent. So you make rules for the worst case scenario and know the owners who don't approach those limits will be in great shape.
Good info. Thanks for posting.
No problem, hope it helps put a few minds at ease.
Unfortunately GM does not agree with your opinion. They are being VERY specific about denying warranty coverage for not meeting the filter and fluid change requirements. Multiple instances of claims being denied in the last 6 months. Especially 2020 and 21 cars that are now past the 3 year fluid change interval.
@@jamesthorne499 where do we find these multiple instances?
@jamesthorne499 can you share with me where you are getting this information from? I'd like to see more detailed info on the claim denials, what I've experienced is cars under the mileage (22,500 miles), meaning people who aren't driving their cars haven't had warranty claims denied. They haven't targeted specific dates to make sure the servicing was done, meaning if your car was purchased in May and you did the service in Aug but only have 18k miles on the car they didn't void or deny the warranty repairs. Also 2020 cars should've had the service performed some time during 2023, I never said don't perform the 3 year service. I stated "if you perform the 3 year service even after the mileage request they wouldn't deny the warranty coverage. There is something called a considerable grade period with servicing, meaning just because they say replace your oil at 7500 miles, it's considered no harm no foul if it's done within 1k miles of that. A 2020 having transmission issues in 2024 that has had the trans fluid flushed in 2023 will always be warrantied!!! Not having the trans filter replaced by 23,500 miles you will most likely have your warranty claim denied but not guaranteed, that comes at the mercy of GM. Not having your trans fluid replaced in year 3 but being under 45k miles, becomes an interesting situation. I haven't seen or heard of GM denying a claim just for the fluid not being serviced and the filter replaced, but if you didn't do either and have over 23,500 miles on the car then there's a possibility the claim may be denied. Being under that mileage and not performing the service but requiring powertrain warranty coverage in year 4 is the real concern and for 99% of owners those claims haven't been denied. I'll tell you why, the 2020 and 2021 cars were not clearly stated under that servicing mandate. If you look in the owners manuals those change specifications are not easily explained and mileage is emphasized in most cases vs time. To void a warranty you have to prove a customer violated the servicing instructions and the service manual says change the fluid at 45k miles. It also tells you to reference the transmission fluid life percentage and if it's lower than 10% change the fluid but if it's not, replace it every 5 years. It does mention replacing it in year 3 if you are near a trans filter replacing interval, but that's a based around a stipulation. So for this story you saying to be true it's more to it than you are sharing. I also feel like this is part of the reason the letter was sent out because the servicing requirements aren't easily stated and once you get past the 1st fluid change/flush it appears most owners will only pay attention to the miles going forward with little emphasis on time.
185 thousand build and 5 thousand has transmission problems bs that a problem……now someone is telling me that car I bought I need to drive it certain amount miles that’s bs GM is just wrong for telling customers this shit anything get out of fixing the car….
Lets clear this up, No one is telling you, you have to drive the car. No one is telling you, you have to service the car early. What I am saying is, if you want the free service to not come with an additional unnecessary servicing charge put the miles on the car. The issue is people are chasing the free service as if it's the end all be all. You don't have to use the free trans filter change, the trans filter isn't required to be changed until 7500 miles doing it earlier isn't benefitting you because this appears to be the only mandate GM wants honored. So just do the service when it's required and there are no issues, it's paying for the services that seem to be the problem.
@ and I tell you in my 70 plus years I never heard of a company telling you when to do anything to a car you bought. The problem is these companies who build these and bring them to market before they work the bugs out when they see something they expect you to pay for it. Bs
We just want a manual.
The manual is in the car, it comes with it!!
85% of buyers DO NOT want manual transmission. No business case for it. No room for the shift handle. Reduced performance. None of us can man-handle or woman-handle a .05 clutch-shift .. I understand the man-machine symbiosis, I (and big Daddy Tadge) agree with you -- it is a facet of driving that is lost. Same thing with ABS, traction control, etc.
@ I’m aware. No one buys a manual for performance reasons (DCT is far superior). They buy a manual for the connection to the car and a more engaging driving experience. Look at the used sports car market. Everything being equal: Year, Model, Trim, Mileage. The manual will sell at premium, compared to the paddle shift version. Edit* All that said, I’m still considering buying a new C8, but they need to bring back Silver Flare.
Damn im glad.i did buy into the hype . I'll keep my 2016 with 24000 miles on it
That's one way to look at it but I had a 2016 C7 and the C8 is a far superior car, but if you not chasing speed, technology or a better all around driving experience then stay in the C7. By all means the C7 isn't a bad car and I still miss mine at times but I don't regret the upgrade.
Nice informative video! I had my '22 C8 serviced at 2500 miles. My dealer suggested the transmission top-off. I'm now at 5500 miles, due for a service [will happen in Spring '25]. I'm confused if I need another transmission service...flush or otherwise? Keep rocking Show!
Per GM they suggest you do the 3 year flush service, it's about a $1000 at most dealers. In my opinion you're not driving your car enough to have any major concerns but for the purpose of keeping the factory warranty in place I would consider doing some form of trans servicing and filter replacements are running $500-$750 in our area. What ever service you decide to do I would recommend following the mileage for servicing the trans going forward when servicing your car and keep in mind the trans fluid life is about 5 years.
GM is crying owners didn't follow certain 'break in' procedures.... I don't think Toyota Supra owners, Porsche 911 owners, BMW M owners, Mercedes AMG owners Audi R8, Lamborghini, Ferrari owners are facing this DCT trans issues on their cars!!!! So what GM is saying is their engineers can't design a product that competes on the world market!!!😂😂😂
LOL, this is a fun topic.... I don't think GM is crying, but have become more aware of what they are dealing with. Minus the Toyota Supra, every other owner you mentioned is a different type of buyer and yes each one of those cars has their own issue. Porsche GT3s, GT2RSs and The Turbo versions of the 911s have issues with drive shafts and gearing. BMW M series cars have issues with parts breaking and tearing off the oil pan and shattering the whole drive train, Audi R8s 1st gen have trans issue and the 2nd gen has rear diff issues just like the Lambos. Even the AMGs and Ferraris have issues, the difference is those owners don't plan to own the cars for long stints so many of the problems that come with these cars the owners rarely address. GM engineers didn't design the the DCT trans, its built from the same company that builds transmissions for all the supercars you just mentioned. There are two major factors with the C8 trans vs the other brands, 1. GM is asking for a mass production of the trans using parts that are durable but of lower cost. When you think of any business structure you cant get all 3, if it's quick and cheap the reliability will suffer. If's its reliable and quickly made the cost will be high. If it's reliable and cheap the production time will be longer. So it appears GM chose option 1 to meet the demand of the market place. 2. There customers want to be able to do their own maintenance for the most part and save money on labor costs. You don't see any of those other car owners you mention looking to get their hands dirty doing their own maintenance. So it's a different buyer for this car, what GM is stressing is this isn't the typical corvette of the past. They are trying to make sure the owners understand that preventive maintenance is important with the C8 series especially with the transmission because it's the one part on the car their engineers didn't design and wasn't built with the intentions of nonexperienced mechanics would maintain. They are just addressing the customer base they know they have vs all other brands.
@ICNVDE The more people allow GM to have excuses, the longer they will make a substandard product! I get that not everyone can shell out $250k for a new 911 Turbo but there are plenty consumer products that are made in the US that are purchased by consumers world wide that don't cost an arm and a leg! What GM should have done was to have Pininfarina design the C8 and have Toyota build it for them! Then, maybe they could have a product that is worth buying!!! And we all know that will never happen! And regarding reliability, cost and speed to market, you said they chose to sacrifice reliability! Pretty dumb move isn't it??!!! Because no one will remember how fast they made the cars nor how fast it came to market but poor quality, workmanship and reliability lives on forever!!! This is a specialty car! This, as seen by the low mileages owners put on, is not their daily driver and only vehicle! So there is no need to bring out these cars before they were done with R&D!!
@@ICNVDE this LWRC guy literally goes to every C8 thread (seriously, not exaggerating, look at a few of them and you will find him doing the same thing) and just bashes on them in any and every way he can think of. He does not own a Porsche or any other sports car as he admitted when I challenged him to produce a video of him owning any of those in another thread. Not sure what his motivation is, but whatever it is, It sure seems to be motivated by hatred of Corvettes and the challenge they are posing to European cars. Hmm…. As to not following required maintenance issues and getting your warranty voided: this is universal. If you skip a few oil changes in a Porsche, drive it hard, and the engine blows, Porsche is not gonna give you a freebie. They deny warranties all the time. Just look at their bore scoring issue in their 911 and Boxster engines, which can and has caused engine failure for many owners, produced from 1997-2005 for example.
Sure sounds like this DCT transmission will be a time bomb for the C8s!!! So not only did GM fail on the overall design of the C8, the horrible interior design of the dash, the HVAC controls and HMI, now, there is a timebomb on the DCT transmission!!!! 😂😂😂
Keep driving your little honda Timmy. You get great MPG yeah?
You can't live in fear and enjoy life, I have 32k error free miles on my trans with basic suggested maintenance done. There are cars out there without any issue closing in on 80k miles and more with out trans issues that haven't completed every service suggestion for the trans by GM. You are focusing on a small amount of cars that had a bad break with the trans and trying to stereo type the entire production of the model. Their are more cars without issues than cars with them, it's obvious you don't own the car because after driving it 1k miles the interior design is the first impressive thing you come to love about the car. The HVAC controls make so much sense and the cockpit feel is unbelievable how it helps enhance your driving experience. You can continue to hate on the car from a distance but even in your efforts to hate the car you still can't resist the lure of owning one.... I mean why are you watching so much content on a car you think is poorly engineered, a ticking time bomb, a bad design and shouldn't be purchased? Stop letting fear prevent you from owning the car and creating negative views about it to justify your decision not to buy one. 98% of the people I met that spoke negatively of the car before becoming an owner have all changed their minds and believe it the best corvette GM has made thus far.
@ICNVDE You can't put up poor quality and call it a day! GM started with a clean sheet of paper and they tripped all over themselves on the product! Kind of unbelievable! It says they either don't understand what they were doing with this design or the margin of safety was too low or both! They had to hit a certain cost target and something had to give!
@@LWRC So far they seem to be doing the right thing on the tranny issues . Also from a tech at a top c8 dealer . The transmission issue is a bit higher than normal but nowhere near to the point he would not buy one . Most have no issues but a bit more then average failures has occurred . I think GM will do the right thing in most cases. They have to .
@MR.TOYBOX Agreed. GM is doing the right thing. The more competitive they become, the better it is for the market.
Porsche 911s have DCT transmissions and there are not any requirements like this from GM!!! 😂😂😂
I know several 911 owners and have several friends in the Porsche community and clubs. The higher performance versions of the 911 have similar concerns but many people and Porsche owners don't buy them so unless you get a "real" 911 you won't have issues. What I mean by real 911 is a car over 450hp, so a GT3, GT2RS or Turbo version; those cars have more trans concerns than you want to believe. But truthfully most cars that deliver over 450hp tend to have some concerns with the powertrain when it comes to reliability, delivering the power over and over for long stints. Not just a C8 issue
@ICNVDE And you've not owned a 911 then! The platform isn't without fault but looking at the earlier 911SC generation cars, you had motors and transmissions that lasted well into the 300,000 mi mark! How long has Porsche and other manufacturers had the DCT trans? And how many times do we have manufacturers issue warning service bulletins to owners? Maybe they did but certainly wasn't this level of publicity! GM has done a good job in moving on from the C7 but the level of complexity also increased and they still have problems with quality of build and reliability! And that's not even getting into the design of the C8! For comparison, look up Lamborghini's intro of the Huracan Technica on YT! The thought that went into the overall design is masterful! Not comparing actual costs but the designs of these two cars!
@@LWRC you don’t own a 911 either, what the hell are you talking about? If you do let’s see a video of it. All you do is troll Corvette threads. I challenged you repeatedly at another thread of post up a video of any Porsche you own, and I’ll challenge you again here. Don’t come off like you own one and try to fool people, you’re a little teenage wannabe and nothing more.
@@LWRC you do not own a Porsche. All you do is go around from thread to thread bashing C8 Corvettes. Porsche have problems too: Problems with the 991.1 GT3’s 3.8-liter engine were apparent right from the start. Shortly after the release of the car, Porsche issued a recall for all GT3 models in March 2014. That notice came as a result of loosened screw joints on the connecting rods. The issue ultimately caused two cars to suffer engine fires. Porsche replaced the engine in all 785 GT3s built up until that point, and adjusted the design to prevent further issues. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the last time Porsche recalled the car for engine issues. Just a year later, 12 more GT3 received entirely new engines after a valvetrain issue related to finger followers was discovered. Porsche then revealed an extended warranty offer for all 991.1 GT3 owners, which was set to last 10 years or 120,000 miles. Porsche IMS bearing failures: The intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing in Porsche 911 and Boxster models from 1997 to 2005 has a high failure rate. The bearing's design and construction can lead to premature failure, which can cause catastrophic engine failure. The only early warning sign of IMS bearing failure is the presence of metal shavings in the oil or oil filter. Other signs include: * Knocking or grinding sounds from the motor * Oil leaks * Metallic shards in the oil filter IMS bearing failure can happen at any time. Some bearings have failed after only 3,000 miles, while others have lasted for 200,000 miles or more. Failure can be unpredictable and can be due to a combination of causes. A failed IMS bearing can lead to catastrophic engine damage and costly repairs, making it essential to be aware of the issue and take necessary precautions. When the IMS bearing fails, it results in a loss of camshaft timing that can cause severe damage to the engine, including bent valves and debris. 718 GT4 engine recall: Recall date 2021-03-23 Recall no. 21V200000 Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2021 Porsche Cayman GT4, Cayman GTS 4.0, 718 Spyder, and Boxster GTS 4.0 vehicles. The engine connecting rods may crack and loosen. Recall consequence A loose connection while driving may cause engine damage, a stall, or an oil leak, increasing the risk of a crash or fire. Recall action Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the connecting rods or, as necessary, the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 21, 2021. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is AMA4. Bore scoring issues: due to a design issue, 1999 through 2008 911s, Boxster‘s, and Caymans are all at risk of bore scoring, which can result in catastrophic engine failure if not caught and fixed when it occurs: Porsche cylinder bore scoring occurs in engines with Lokasil and Alusil engine blocks when there is a breakdown of the Aluminum-Silicon (Al-Si) cylinder system. When the required iron-clad piston coating fails or there are insufficient exposed silicon particles on the face of the aluminum cylinder bore to support oil film formation, there will be accelerated wear on the pistons, rings, and the cylinder walls. As the pistons and rings move up and down the cylinder, wear debris will be dragged through the bore, causing cylinder bore scoring. Certain models are more susceptible than others to Porsche cylinder bore scoring. Porsche 911 bore scoring in 3.6 and 3.8 liter M96.03, M96.05, and M97.01 engines and Porsche Cayman bore scoring in 3.4 M97.21 engines are most common; below are all the models that can experience this issue: * Porsche 996 bore scoring * Porsche 997 bore scoring * Porsche 911 bore scoring * Porsche 987 bore scoring * Cayman bore scoring * Boxster bore scoring (3.4 M97.22 engine only Bore scoring can have extremely negative impacts on your car's performance and engine longevity. As the scoring worsens, the cylinders will lose their ring seal, and harmful contaminants will enter your oil as it bypasses the piston rings. Those contaminants can then be spread throughout to all the lubricated components in your Porsche's engine, eventually leading to catastrophic damage in the worst case scenario. 718 transmission recall: In 2021 Porsche recalled 4,934 cars with faulty transmission and suspension that can cause drivers to lose control. This increases the risk of a crash and injuries. The recall includes the following models: * 2013 - 2015 Porsche Boxster * 2013 - 2014 Porsche Boxster S * 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS * 2014 - 2015 Porsche Cayman * 2014 - 2015 Porsche Cayman S * 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS This was the result of a manufacturing issue. Strontium is a material which is added to aluminum to make it stronger. Here, too much of it was used in the manufacturing procsee and weakened the axle carrier, which could crack or break, causing a loss of control and an accident.
@markw9512 Let's look at all the manufacturing defects GM has put out shall we??!!! If GM is such a power house in engineering, why have they never won a single race in the 24 hrs of Le Mans? Many race teams in the lower classes think it is an epic achievement to place in the top 10 in their class much less to win it once! I believe the Corvette has won lower classes but no GM product has ever won the top class! Stop the stupidity of defending GM for their poor quality and design of vehicles! If they built a better product, then I'd buy it!
Why does the trans fluid degrade with time with extremely low mileage???!!! And, why does it need to be serviced at 7000 mi??!!! This is completely stupid on GM for design in such a low failure point!!! I have never had any vehicle that required a trans fluid change below 60,000 miles and never had any transmission failures!!!!
To answer your questions, the fluid doesn't degrade with low mileage usage. Many people are replacing the fluids because they are chasing the free service and not trying to pay out of pocket for that first maintenance. The 7k - 8k range is a target point because through testing and research they discovered that there were indications for future trans failures that could be discovered at this point in time. If they see those indicators they can address the issue while the car is still under warranty vs having a vehicle that falls just out of coverage and leaving customers with a bad taste for the brand. What hasn't been discussed is many of the cars that were repaired were given warranty extensions by GM free of charge to cover the replaced trans as it was the 1st in service date of the vehicle. GM has stood behind there product without any hesitation. So I don't see how people fault them for educating their customers and trying to prevent unnecessary repairs from improper servicing. Remember this is the 1st ownership of such a complex supercar for many owners, just because the car was a bargain doesn't mean the servicing will be the same as owning a caviler or cobalt. That's where the breakdown has occurred, many owners thought because it was a corvette they could maintain it like a 2004 Camaro. To address other vehicle ownerships, not many normal cars use a dual clutch transmission; the design is utilized for more high performance cars. When you deal with vehicles that deliver power in the higher band range for long stints with constant speed demand changes the parts tend to wear quicker. People don't typically drive sports cars the way they drive Camrys Escalades, F150s, Buicks, Cadillacs, Lincolns, Lexus or Mercedes so owning a car not centered around performance and under 450hp their transmissions wouldn't be a target of concern. Only cars above 450hp tend to have powertrain wear concerns and many supercars and high performance cars tell you to service or flush the trans before 60k miles actually the 45k mile range is quite common.
@ICNVDE For you nonengineers who think you know what you are talking about, it is all in the design and execution. Do you think any of the cars I mentioned have low HP and the manufacturers had to cover such premature failures?!! And remember GM actually bought a Porsche 911 Turbo as a benchmark car for their design of the C8! When did Porsche ever by any GM product as a benchmark? Porsche set the record for the most wins in the 24 hrs of Le Mans in the top class! GM never even won it once! So I'd say GM is cutting their teeth on this transmission and that's what owners are seeing!
@@LWRC you are neither an engineer nor a Porsche owner. What you are as a patrol who goes from video to video bashing on C8 Corvettes, literally each and every thread there is about a Corvette you do this.
All fluids degrade with time. Oil has a storage life, if you look on a bottle of motor oil it has an expiration date.
@markw9512 LOL...when people settle for 2nd rate.... invalidate the claims and prove it! Porsche's history is in the record books and is not something I made up! As for my fake engineering background - let's hear your proof of it!
So 2024 C8, the transmission is every 3 years, right?
From my understanding the servicing requirements are the same, the biggest customer change is you don't have to add the 2 quarts of oil for tracking the car. The service manual that comes with the car will cover the specifics.
I bet IF there are more DCT claims, GM will make it harder to claim.....GM likes profits more than customers
GM is a company, every company likes profits. I don't really understand all the anger people have surrounding this topic. As we see there is a lot of confusion from owners on what they should be doing and by trying to address the confusion people are getting mad. The goal is to not have issues with your car and they are explaining how to prevent that.
The real reason GM got rid of the 100k power train warranty.
My org fear is true, the DCT will be a boat archer around the C8 ESPECIALLY out of warranty
I don't think it should be a fear, but if you view it as an issue that's how you will always see it. The C8 is truly a supercar, entry level but a supercar. If you look up servicing requirements or transmission issues with other supercars you will see they all have extensive servicing. I believe historically the normal corvette owner has gotten away with not doing so much suggestive maintenance that hearing it's important to preserve the functionality of this car is scaring people. The C7 Z06 and ZR1 have tighter preventive maintenance requirements than other corvettes and we've see more errors happen to the Z06 which made a lot of people scared of the car until they realized is they service it, for the most part it would be a better ownership experience. There isn't enough ZR1 owners that really drive the car to truly care about the servicing, so no one really talks about it. If the cost of the service is the issue for corvette owners than the maintenance requirements for the C8 transmission will be an anchor for the life of the ownership until people start to get comfortable with the car. 80% of the corvette owners have nothing to worry about because they barely put 2k miles on their car a year. No one has ever said you need to change the trans filter before 7500 miles people just do it because it's free. After performing the 1st 3 year trans flush on the car I don't expect the regular service practice to continue with most cars. Logically it doesn't make sense. Because you can change your own oil, it's not that hard to reset the oil change timer which is more time based than usage. The oil is good for 2 years of usage and 10k miles of normal driving, so I see a lot of owners drifting to that servicing pattern. The filters are suggested for replacement every 15k miles after the first 7500 replacement and I expect people to lean more toward the 15k miles even if it takes 3-4 years to reach in the future. The trans flush is suggested every 22,500 miles and I expect more owners to follow that or adopt an every 5 year replacement system because that's how long it takes for the trans fluid life reading in the car to get to 0. The car doesn't seem hard to maintain and own, but having a lot of service cost thrown at people in a short amount of time to maintain the warranty; and the owners not really knowing the difference in the servicing along with the cost really is the problem and creating a lot of fear of ownership with new owners. People who are already outside the warranty aren't looking at it the way so many of you are. There are owners with over 75k miles on their 2020 and 2021s who haven't had any issues and just performed the suggested maintenance when they hit the suggested mileage.
Chevy cosplaying as a Ferrari. No thanks.
@@garnet4846 lol, I would say a Mclaren GT but people wee what they want to see. In the end there's very strict rules governing mid engine car designs, so they all look alike yet different in their own way. If you want to believe the Corvette looks like a Ferrari you are very limited in how you view things because they look completely different, but just as similar as a Mclaren, Audi R8, Acura NSX and Huracan look to a Ferrari
It looks bad if you have any kind of transmission problems before ten thousand miles or a ixty thousand miles it's not worth buying.
Honestly like i stated before it does look bad but these transmission issue people bring up are fears because during the Covid parts shortage, they had a large amount of cars in a short window have issues. This is what started the concerns, but I agree with your statement to an extent and here's why. Most corvette owners like the idea of owning a supercar but don't want the cost of ownership of a supercar. Because many corvette owners don't own supercars they don't follow the drama that supercar owners go through. Trans failure on high performance cars isn't uncommon, especially if the preventive servicing isn't done. I don't know any cars that crossed into the 450hp and above range that doesn't have transmission concerns after delivering the power constantly and aggressively. When you start to realize it's not a Camry, impala or any normal driving sedan so the wear on the parts will never be the same you look at it differently. BMW M series cars have drive shaft problems, Lambos have rear diff issues with the AWD systems and similar trans concerns with the 2WD cars. Porsche has issue with the GT3, GT2RS and Turbos; the list of manufactures and cars keeps going. So you see it's not uncommon for the failure you are mentioning before 60k miles, but I can't say how a person should feel about a car being worth their purchase. But for many sports car and supercar owners they are completely ok with making that purchase.
Where did you get the Corvette Emblems for the headrest on your Corvette sure does look good!
I got them 3 years ago and honestly I don't even remember from who. Can't remember if it was an E-bay purchase or a mass Corvette parts supplier location. What I can tell you is it's a patch with adhesive on the bas so you can secure it to the seat. It works well, barely sits off the seat and hasn't shown any signs of coming off for the past 3 years.
Why are these transmissions not all under warranty? These fluid changes and filter swaps should all be on GM's dime. I'm totally baffled why Corvette owners are putting up with this. Brewman
REALLY? You do know the same required service on every other car is not covered by a warranty. The difference is most people don't read the service manual on their cars and never do the preventive maintenance. I was at a Land Rover dealership two weeks ago talking reliability or Range Rovers with the Owner and GM of the store, the biggest issue they blame for reliability failures with those trucks is people not doing the suggested preventive maintenance. They say only 12% of cars actually get serviced like they should and they showed me the service manual that comes with the car. Looking at used car faxes I see so many cars that never got the correct servicing and as they say have the potential to be problem vehicles. Some dealers do sell maintenance packages but I didn't see one for the Corvette that covered trans servicing.
Can you name any other brand that gives an owner free oil or transmission services? I mean seriously bro, that would be great if they do it but *nobody* does that. 😂
Wild. The Service tech literally said word for word what you said about why GM sent the Letter. I mean word for word. Thanks for the Video. It was needed. I hope others who just bought a used c8 and are super worried like i was are put at ease with this video.
Thanks!!! That was part of my intentions as well as putting at ease a large amount of the older guys who are corvette loyalist who fear owning this car anyways. I've met a lot of them over the past 3 years and chat about concerns and issues they go through with the car.
@@ICNVDE Another big issue is chevy service techs overall are 90 percent clueless about any and all c8 dct maintenance. Facts. 90 percent are clueless. I talked to a few dealers in my hometown and man. Not a Chance i will let them clowns touch my car with a 10ft pole. I am making the two hour drive to Atlanta to a dealer that not only services a ton of c8 corvettes but they actually know what there talking about. I am in shock how uneducated some of this service guys truly are when it comes to the c8 dct service. Its bad. I should have recorded the calls i made. I regret not doing so. It would have been super embarrassing for gm had i recorded those calls. So Atlanta here i come from Bama. Also there is no standard dct filter or fluid change price. It can be 2000 at one dealer. Hendrick and 1200 at another dealer edwards chevy. Same town. GM needs to come up with standard pricing on the dct maintenance and they need to actually train their current and future techs on the c8. I still do not think i would have bought the C8 after learning how piss poor these stealer ships truly are as a whole in regards to the servicing of the c8. I swear they are clueless. Like they never heard or seen a c8 once in there life. You can't make this up.
Your Video is spot on and it's almost word for word what a Long TIme Service Writer at a very large volume Corvette Dealership told me a few days ago. I am driving two hours to go to this dealership because he not only knows the facts like you mentioned in this video he has dealt with it a few times already in regard to the C8 Corvettes transmissions. I was so worried i said should i not drive it until the day i have to drive it to your dealership for our scheduled transmission service? He said absolutely not and to drive it like i stole it.
I'm glad I could be of help! Go enjoy that car!!!
What's sad is this. I just bought a used 2021 z51 3lt fully loaded. Had 9500 miles on it when i bought it. At 5000 miles the previous owner had the Filter Changed at 5000 miles by a CHEVY Dealer. At that time they had no clue you could not change it a bit sooner. Now my car has 11000 miles. Most of that was from when the out of state dealership I bought the car from drove it to my state I live in. I have it scheduled for next week to get the Transmission filter changed again along with the Fluid drained and Refilled. I Bought the car from a ford dealer but they have a sister Chevy store and that is where the car was. The main dealer who owned several brand dealerships had the car on all there sites. But it was at a Chevy dealer. Ford dealer had to drive 30 min each way to get it from there chevy store. Why did the Chevy store not go ahead and Replace the Filter then at 9500 miles?? Make it make sense. So my filter was changed before the 7500 miles and now it will be changed again after the 8000 mile buffer they allow. If I have Transmission problems in the next 15 months while my Powertrain warranty is in full effect I was told in my case I would be covered. Told by 3 service techs from 3 different dealerships. They said since I just Bought the car and the filter was changed even though early and with me getting the fluid and filter changed rather quickly after buying the car that I would be taking care of should i have a transmission issue. Hopefully i never have to find out. I even purchased an aftermarket extended warranty. I also spoke to a major dealer in Atlanta who I have my appointment with and the service tech said not only would i be good in my particular case that he actually has two c8 on the rack now getting new warranty approved transmissions. He said they both were several thousand miles past the 7500 mark. Both of them were purchased used. In there case it was not the fault of the buyer and they approved them both. I also think it has a lot to do with what service tech you get at the dealership. I think some are better at going to bat and getting warranty claims approved more so than others. I also think larger volume dealers get more pull than others. Could be wrong.
Thanks for all the information, I'll try to make it make sense. I'm not sure what year your car is but I'm assuming a 21 or 20; back then they only covered the trans filter replacement the first year so people did it right before it expired. There was no mandate that said we had to do it again at 7k-8k miles back then, honestly they said if you do it before 5k miles you should do it again the following year but there was no mileage mandate, they just assumed you would be over 7500 miles. They also said if you changed it above 5500 miles you can just follow the normal servicing intervals for the trans filter which is 15k miles and the 3 year trans flush. If you get the trans flushed and filter replaced at the 3 year mark you should be good. The reason why the service advisor said you would be covered is you have done the suggested preventive maintenance in the suggested time line. That's the main point I was trying to stress, for people who aren't putting miles on their cars you really have nothing to be concerned about, just stick to the suggested maintenance time line. Even if you replace the filter year 2 under 7k miles, year 3 you flushing the trans and replacing the filter again anyways. I believe that was the main reason they added that information to the letter so you don't feel like you doing extra maintenance that wasn't required. Just make sure you don't get a filter replacement and actually ask for the trans fluid flush. from my understanding they drain the fluid and replace the filter during this service. There is no indication in the dealers system as what service you need so they will only do what you ask for. You have to stay on top of your own vehicles maintenance.
This C8 service schedule is confusing. My corvette tells me to change oil every year. First year paid for oil and filter change at 3,500 miles. Second year got free oil and filter and transmission filter change at 7500 miles. Third year I am going to have to get oil and filter change. Trans service flush, trans fluid and filter change. And pay for it myself. Expensive one. Hopefully this will maintain my warranty. All this should have been explained when I bought car new. It was not.
I get it and it's a lot but the car tracks the oil change by time and mileage, if you check the oil life span it can go 2 years or 12k mile on normal driving, I wouldn't exceed 10k especially if you drive spirittedly from time to time. I know I caught you off guard but you can go about 10k miles before the car flags an oil change if you driving more miles than the time counter can keep up with. For some odd reason my experience has been the more miles I drive in a short span regardless of me hitting 7500 the car tells me to replace the oil around the 8-9 month mark if I exceed the 7500 miles. My point is I wouldn't change synthetic oil after 3500 miles just because it's been in the car a year, I would wait for the 7500 or 2 year mark, which ever comes first. But lets not focus on that if you got the trans filter replaced in year 2 at 7500 miles and plan to get the trans flushed at the year 3 mark. I wouldn't focus on the trans filter any more, just focus on the trans flushes. They are suppose to replace the trans filter during the trans flush, and if they say they don't just get it replaced when you do them. After the 7500 mile trans filter replacement they are recommended for replacing every 15k miles per the GM service manual. It doesn't seem like you will be putting 15k miles on your car in a 3 year span so I wouldn't focus on the miles going forward and just worry about the time intervals. Like I said before I wouldn't change synthetic oil every year with less than 7500 miles on it. Synthetic oil is designed for performance and is suppose to be good for 10k miles easy.
@ Thank you for the reply. I agree with you. But car tells me it’s time for oil change every year. Should I just ignore that? Also I Have been told by 3 different GM dealers, I must get trans service and change trans oil and filter at 3 years regardless of miles.
These transmissions are great if they don’t break Tremec needs to address these issues since they build the transmission for gm No excuses A car that cost. That much money Hell No
I can understand your point but I think part of the issue is they are making transmissions for a budget cost for GM. Tremec makes trans missions for several other supercar brands and they have no where near the fear or complaint concerns revolving around the trans. I think the major issue is the C8 is a low budget supercar and keeping the price down on the trans means cheaper materials which also means higher failure possibilities.
What up fam, this is some great information.
Thanks man, appreciate the support!
What about the transmission service of either every 7500 miles or every 3 years whichever comes first on the DCT filter. Is this a true statement, because a lot of C8 owners are confused on this statement. Thanks for keeping the community informed.
It is kind of confusing but to attempt to make it simple, the first service is at 7500 miles every other trans filter service is 15000 miles later, so the next service is at 22,500 miles. The catch 22 is it happens at the same time the 3 year trans flush is suppose to take place. That's why I say to people even if you did the free service at the 2 year mark but under 7k miles and you don't do the trans filter replacement at 8k miles; the following year based off the GM servicing manual the trans fluid still needs to be flushed, which also gets a trans filter replacement. It's a lot but the service manual makes it seem simple to keep up with. The problem comes when you fall off the actual miles and service based off time. So the next filter only replacement would be at 37,500 and the next flush would be at 45k miles. If you not gone put 15000 miles on your car every 2 years I would forget about the trans filter replacements and focus on the 3 year trans fluid flushes, you should be fine.
The flush consists of a laptop hooked up to the obd 2 port at which time the solenoids in the transmission are activated pushing fluid and any debris back into the filter. Technically, the dct filter should be changed after the flush. Full fluid replacement is at 45k. Minimum of 3 yrs, just not at less years. If trans wasn't serviced at 7500, then flush and filter at 22500. I bought mine as a certified pre owned, yet the dealership has no record of services even though i talked with service manager about previous owner and the stuff he had them do. It's a small town dealership that elects not to participate in the GM Connected Service system. Sucks for me because I have to do the flush in another 400 miles. It cost 629 dollars. That's labor, transmission filter, and 2 qts of trans fluid.
I got the letter too, I bought my 22 HTC earlier this year and when I reached out to my local dealership to make sure I was ok they were saying that my trans filter wasn’t replaced at the 7500 service and that I needed to get my car in asap. I immediately called the dealership where I bought it from because I was assured that it was done. They sent me an email confirming the invoice of the service thankfully and when I informed my local dealership they said that I was fine to wait until spring for the 3 year trans flush which was my original plan to do with the oil change.
Thank you for sharing that, I learned you really need to find a specific dealer and stick with that one. You definitely saved yourself some money in the process, by doing the leg work and confirming what you were originally told. The dealers have no real way of looking in a system and seeing what work has been done to your car or what service is needed when. I learned that the hard way, I didn't plan on doing my second filter replacement, it just happened. Meaning i asked for the 3 year service on my corvette, they did some 3 year service plan they advertise for Chevy cars. When I realized the price was to good to be true and didn't see a trans filter replacement I was upset. Then they informed me they had no filters in stock to replace it and to bring it back in 5 weeks when they had an open appointment slot. I brought the car in for service because I was planning to take a 5 state trip and have a track day, so I just ordered the parts on line and did it with a friend. My normal service writer was on vacation when I took my car in and the Corvette tech didn't even think twice about under servicing the car. My normal advisor explained to me that everyone isn't knowledgeable about the Corvette service requirements and the system doesn't flag suggested maintenance for the car. I check with 2 other Chevy locations and they confirmed it as well. So you have to stay on top of your own maintenance.
My c8 z51 is at 4500 at the dot after 2 track days and im worried about the 7500 mandate if the filter and fluid should be done sooner cus of track use
That's actually a great question, so from my understanding if you constantly track your car they recommend doing the service earlier. This comes back to your personal track days and driving experience. I personally took my car on 2 separate track days and changed my trans filter at 6348 miles. This was during the first year and I was still targeting 7500 miles for the replacement, but my free one year service was about to expire so I did it then. I don't believe having 4 to 5 track days is considered constantly tracking the car before the first filter replacement. At the same time what type of tracking are you doing, laps or the drag strip? I would be more concerned about the proper track preparations for the car before and after driving the car around the track. Now there are other drivers that hit the track 10 times or more a year, they put the car out there 4 to 8 times that day for hot laps and they are focused on best lap times, power delivery, how to take corners and etc... To me I would consider replacing the filter some where around every 6th or 7th track day and possibly flushing the fluid every 18k miles or 20-25 track days. The free track experience you get from GM when you buy a brand new C8 puts you behind the wheels of cars that sole purpose are to drive around the track constantly daily. From my understanding they change their filters every 1500-3500 miles and fluid every 8-10k miles. I don't believe your car is experiencing that type of tracking commitment, but their cars seem to be doing just fine with that servicing schedule. What's funny is some owners have adopted the same servicing schedule with cars that aren't even getting 1/30 of the driving abuse. In my opinion you should be fine with the trans, it the tires and brakes I would focus on more, they will wear out quicker with each track usage.
these cars are dropping faster then a Rolex 😅
lol no lies there
🔥🔥🔥🔥 Fire footage bro. Its always a great time hanging out with my brother. 🫡💪🏾🤝🏾 #dba #lbm
Appreciate the support, great seeing everyone come together.
Thx alot gd info my Brutha i have c7 an i wanna keep it lloll
I'm not mad at you and I would want to do the same, there are new products constantly hitting the market place every day. I just saw a digital license plate with tracker, It makes a clone of your actual plate with registration and can be updated through 34 out of 50 of states DMV currently. While sitting at car shows or the vehicle is parked you can run custom displays across the plate and if your car is stolen you can put the information in an app and the license plate will flash stolen across the plate and the module for the plate has a tracker built in and can be hidden in multiple locations through out the car. Its a great alternative but to me I still want a notification the car is being tampered with not just options to help recover it after its gone .
Soooo glad I traded my 2022 2Lt HTC after having 6 months of fun with it. I saw this coming then. I just went to the Chevy site and 2024's new are a minimum $10k off MSRP. There are 1572 available for sale NEW within 2k miles of New York. People may not be trading them because they are buried in them. And it is 2025 in 3 weeks, saturated market.
If you don't plan to truly own a car that's always the goal, to enjoy it before you lose big on it. If you don't mind me asking what was your ownership plan for the car? You had a 2022 with a 2 year payment head start vs the current market, you wouldn't have been buried in the car. You probably had a better interest rate than what's being offered today. Buying a 2020-2022 car wasn't a bad purchase if you bought it before Oct of 2022. Being buried in the car isn't why many people aren't trading them; they aren't trading them because you can't replace it with anything else at a reasonable price. The cars have $10k discounts and 8% - 10.5% interest rates. People are paying the same amount in car notes compared to 2020-2022 purchases. Also most true Corvette owners and buyers, buy their corvette with the intent to own it for 3-5 years and not put heavy miles on them. It's not about them making money off the car it's about the ownership experience, the brotherhood and having a car that respected in the Corvette Community. Many new to the brand owners focus on the value and not the culture.... Corvette loyalist focus on the events, the brotherhood and unity it brings to their community, the Corvette is more than just a car, to some it's a lifestyle.
@@ICNVDE I bought it in Feb 2023 3k miles. So, I got the used car discount and paid cash. The car was ceramic coated, Vossen wheels, full Z-51 package. It was great, my plan was drive it for the summer and trade it in Aug 2023 to recoup most of my costs. That is when the C-8's started dropping in value. No offense but I could care less about the so-called culture. I ride a 2021 Harley Ultra Limited and do not own one piece of clothing or gear with any HD insignia. Just not my thing. The video title refers to how bad are C-8 prices now. My opinion is Bad.
But wait when I paid $50k ADM (for 2023 C8 base) the salesman told me "it's like money in the bank" hahahahahahahahaha
LOL, when did we start trusting salesmen for financial advise? Hopefully no one committed to that in 2023, but yes there were some Z06 owners that did buy at that pricing.... many abandon ship when the prices started falling and were able to only loose $10-$15k, but honestly if you plan to keep the car and the payment fits in your budget sometimes you have to just enjoy the car you own. Trying to get out and start over may cost you to lose big.
I dont like extra attention I just want to zoom around vroom vroom. It's affecting the color I want bc red mist for example is going to bring even more attention than black or grey. Sounds like those ppl are projecting
Yeah many owners had that same thought process, but honestly it doesn't matter what color you get when you are alone the car's presence draws the attention even with the most hated colors. The color only becomes a factor when you are around a group of corvettes, then certain colors stand out more... but what you soon realize is the extras stand out even more than the color. So if you change the front splitter, the rear wing, the stickers you add to the car, the wheels, the exhaust, etc... that's what makes the car stand out even more, when surrounded by similar vehicles. Corvettes for 60% of the owners is an extension of their own personality and they receive some form of customization, its just part of the community and ownership experience.
