VTOL tilt servo power.
Not much info about on size requirements for tilt servo for VTOL aircraft. Decided to do a little test as I have had a strong 20kgcm fail. So, measure the servo current draw when applying hand force can compare with running prop movement.

VTOL tilt servo fail, this is the ‘good’ side.
มุมมอง 450วันที่ผ่านมา
Went to fly this morning and the left tilt servo had failed. This is the right side. Also not looking great. They have only flown about 10hrs and are supposed to be good for 20kg.

I always preflight check the tilt servos. Today it probably saved the plane. These servos are quite new with only about 10hrs flying.

Stall test of the VTOL Arduplane
มุมมอง 47หลายเดือนก่อน
Flight to investigate low speed behavior of my VTOL . I had estimated a stall speed of 13m/s and the logs show lowest speed around 12.5. I had expected it to have an aggressive stall but it was quite mild with a slight right wing drop. With stick almost fully back the nose was just nodding. This has to be flown in stabilize as low speed protections in FBWA would cause vertical motor assistance ...

Did you figure it out?
this is exactly what ive been looking to do
I would hace thought the rotor disk inertia would have caused a highter current draw than that. Maybe it was just a dodgy servo from new. I would have thought the servo rated torque woild be moving. Holding would be higher i reckon. Interesting analysis Vince.
Yes I was surprised the servo current seemed very low. I have a new servo tester coming soon that should show peak current. Anyway, I dont think just choosing a bigger power servo is the answer. Previously I had a HS 8kgcm servo in there and it lasted about the same time. Perhaps they dont like being connected to a vibrating thing?
@vincehogg8935 could you be sending 500hz pwm when the servo can only take 50hz? Also have you got the thrust vectoring thing off? They are the only two FC settings I can think of that could be causing this.
@@willwill5539PWM is set to 50hz and the motors are fixed in foreward flight. The servo is carrying their weight but just uses about 0.2a to keep them there. I could design a stop for them to rest on but I don’t really think that is the problem.
@@vincehogg8935 this is why I would tend to go for 5 motor config. With tilts, if a servo fails, you can be stuck neither quad or plane. Could linear actuator with a worm drive be worth a try, or they too slow?
@@willwill5539 Yes too slow. The front motors servos control the yaw in hover so need a bit of speed. I like this layout as there is only one redundant motor in cruise. No doubt someone more clever than me could compile an efficiency chart for all the vtol layouts, certainly its a disadvantage that the front props need a low pitch for hover but all planes are a compromise of some sort. Im sure I can sort this servo issue out by buying a Savox or similar.
Hello. Where i could find stl files for nacelles? Cheers

Very interesting design!
To solve this may be you have to use bigger servo
Thats a gift to you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Never turn down a gift from a cat, they work very hard to catch things for their human. They get very sad and think the human doesn't love them or appreciate them if you turn it down.
I've had previous cats of mine bring me rabbits as well as a ferritin. Ultimate gift to the cats hooman.
Poor rabbit
I didn’t knew that house cats can kill rabbits
@@kalyansapsd1 Phew, They can even kill bats, squirrels and also birds
My black cat that passed away, used to brind little birds and mouse. Half of them would still be alive and would just suddenly decide not to play dead anymore. Scared everyone who tried to bring them away from the house.
Your meezer hunts? All mine does is meow for hugs and complain about wet food
Awe his face!!
Is he kill a rabbit he may have a warrant
It should be illegal to let cats go outside without a permit for working, they are one of the reasons for habit destruction. For farms cats are the opposite of this problem, but with people like the owner of this video who don’t care, they just destroy habitats.
Your cat just brought you your lunch. Thank your cat for being such a kind caring cat
Only my cat bring me money
Please monitor and watch what your cat brings you. Cats should be kept in doors at all times unless they are leashed outside and enjoy walks. Neighboring households could be using pest poison and when a cat eats a rodent who's ingested it they can get sick and die. Stray dogs and other stray cats aren't very friendly to each other at times either. Cat's are not good for the environment and overkill sometimes without reason, for example, you may feed your cat very well but your cat will still have the instinct and urge to hunt when it's not necessary.
I have heard cats will bring you food when they think your food is bad. Also if they think your not eating enough lol cats are awesome.
Praise the cat for his gift :D

Please pet your cat after this they do this in best intend. Diligent boy/girl

wow, intersting design!
What motors and props are you using
Motors are MT4008-12 - 600kv. Quite old now. Front props are 14x8. Im using a heavy 18Ah 4s liion battery so its a bit under powered in hover but still gets the job done.
Looks amazing, anywhere that I can learn more about the design of the VTOL?
Very cool design. Pardon my ignorance, and I'm sure you have, but did you consider mounting the rear engine just past the tail so it too can swivel and contribute to forward thrust in horizontal flight?
There is no real need for extra thrust. The front 2 at full power will give a speed around 70mph, and moving the motor right to the back and adding a tilt servo will completely change the balance and the design.
Skynet.😂😂😂
wow sick bro! thats some slick design!!

Thanks, Im not sure it will be so good once all the wing is on. 1.8 mts span.
Great work! Would you be willing to share the files so I could 3D print this and test it on a fixed wing?
Hello, what is your frame ? please
I don't have any jitter on the pitch normally but the Yaw goes nuts when locking it with the new firmware. That's using an RC truck though. I think the jitter still comes through sometimes without locking it but just not as much. The only time I actually saw my pitch jitter was when I transmitted to a baofeng radio I put on the truck. While you may not be putting out bad signals, it's apparently not very noise immune since just the amp on the baofeng doing receiving is wigging mine out.
Mine does the same... did you find any solution?, i also try by pwm and its the same
Didnt have time to work on it for a while. Someone said the 'new' firmware is better. Im not sure which one he meant. The only new one I see (from yesterday) is for mavlink. I would like to use that but there is no information how to set it up. ie which gimbal to select in Mission Planner etc.
@@vincehogg8935 that firmware that includes mavlink may work better but I can see that for using with ardupilot you need to compile it, since the include the source code for driving the the gimbal by mavlink commands
Tested today with the FPV firmware. Very bad gimbal jumping. See my vid loaded today. Im wondering if I have a faulty gimbal. I tried pulling off my sbus wire and the gimbal just stays at its last setting. It dosent jump around.
All my tests have been in angle mode. I tried speed mode on sbus and it behaves like the 'home' is randomly applied. I then tried speed mode with PWM connections and it seems fine (with FPV firmware 000019). So only one way working. PWM speed mode.
Cool!
