How to replace leaf spring bushings
Here we replace the leaf spring bushings due to shuddering while coming to a stop.
These are leaf springs from a 1 ton truck that I am using to help with weight of all our gear.
We used polyurethane bushings 1.5 inch leaf to shackle and 1.75 inch leaf to frame.

    A lot of bad information here. The master cylinder applies pressure simultaneously to the front and back. The purpose of the proportioning valve is for safety. It isolates the front and back via a shuttle valve. If you were to lose front or back you would still retain some braking. The purpose of the adjustable valve is to prevent the rear wheels from locking up before the front wheels. Rear wheel lock is very dangerous in that it will cause the vehicle to spin. Start slow 25mph or less apply hard brake and make your adjustment. If you want to firm the pedal install a 10psi residual pressure valve to the rear drum brakes.

      Your losing pressure somewhere. If u drop the pan and oil is clean and no disconnected wires or codes then most likely a seal was damaged and needs a rebuild. Transmissions rely heavily on seals and if one gives, it will need a rebuild.

    Boss, I got it started. My coil pack wiring harness was on backwards. If the truck doesn’t crawl on idle, does that mean the torque converter is too high? Also, I’m dealing with a P0300 misfire which I think is because my idle is too low. I need to bump it up from 500 to 750.

    • @Overland_garageandadventure
      @Overland_garageandadventure ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a misfire code I believe I would def work on that first and yeah 500 is too low rpm for idle unless stock Torque converter will stall the engine as soon as its in gear if it’s too low of a stall for ur cam.

    • @klumsytone

  • @bennyboyy7
    @bennyboyy7 ปีที่แล้ว

    They probably were recommending it for racing if you didn't mention it, can't say for sure. Ideally if the cam is a lower rpm cam like yours they will recommend about 500-1000 rpm higher converter for good power launches. Some stock converters or 1800 stalls don't quite give you the same power with a lower cam like that. Now you get up to a 3000-7500 cam then a 3000 or 3200 converter would be good. The heads play a role on where a cam actually starts to make power. Stock heads and a mild can like that usually work fine but sometimes have issues. A big cam for more rpm on stock heads would have issues

      I am rebuilding a 700R4 (4L60/4L60E with no electronics) and I have learned that there are specific ways to check bushings. Put the parts that have the bushing you are testing and the surface that rides in the bushing together. If they have too much play (while dry) they should be replaced. The main bushings you should replace are the pump bushings, rear case bushing, and the bushing for the sun shell gear that is on the sun gear for the reaction planetary gearset. This video shows more of the 4L60 model transmission from the shape of the bellhousing, but there is another creator that goes through all tests and how to rebuild this transmission, with or without special tools. Search up "Transmission Bench 4L60E" if you want a super informative series of videos that shows complete disassembly and what bad parts look like, or what should be replaced regardless. This video does show the assembly process and, even though he shows his mistakes (because they happen), this video is very well made.

    Good video! Looks like a nice setup. Without the ABS, if you still have a spongy pedal, it’s most likely air that’s left in the system. You can also try dead-heading the master cylinder (cap the two ports) and the pedal should be rock solid. That’ll rule out that the master cylinder is bad. There is a double piston in the master cylinder, they both engage simultaneously when you press the brake pedal (not one after the other). The adjustable valve doesn’t make your pedal more solid - it can help you dial in your rear brake pressure. You want your front wheels to lock up before your rear brakes so that your back doesn’t break out.

    I think any of us with the GMT-400 would agree the brakes are bad. The quick take up master cylinder and front brakes calipers that are supposed to retract for mileage are part of the problem. Using the newer master cylinder helps. I would like to hear more about your impression of removing the ABS. If you want to put on different calipers the slightly larger 2500 calipers don't have the retracting pistons. I used them when I changed my master cylinder. I also tried the larger wheel cylinders in the back to adjust the bias without removing the ABS it makes a big difference and could be another cheap knob to turn with your wilwood valve. Looking forward to more of your videos.
