After one of the old mufflers rusted through On my 1980 XS1100 I decided to fabricate a set of 1-3/4" stainless straight pipes with a crossover for it. The jetting was already rich so it actually ran stronger afterwards. Unfortunately the mic on my camera sucks so the audio on the video doesn't doesn't portray how loud this thing really is.

      Are you referring to the Virago 535? If so that is one of the few I haven't worked on, but from what I can tell the easiest way would be to use a jack screw to push it out from the inside. It would definitely destroy the filter but shouldn't damage the seat or plug. If I find a set for a good price I will do a video.

      I think you have to punch them out you'll destroy the filter but not the seat or plug but will have to get new o-ring for plug and punch it in to hold then I'm guessing put new one in from inside bowl with a punch till it's down to fit.. I'm not sure I just commented and he gave me some ideas but I'm going to try mine and see which way the seat goes back in. Unless you take the filter off and put it in from the outside where the plug is punch it in till it stops maybe 🤔 and put filter and plug in.. 🤔🤔🤔

    @Joe's Chop Shop , how many times you had this work? Ive had it work a time or two. I try to keep away from those style extractors. As you said they break easy. From my experience , usually with less force than needed to remove whatever is stuck. There are newer styles of extractors that dont break as easily. But they seem to strip out instead. Thats when you get a jet stripped out and drilled out. And no way i know of to save the threads.

    • @jbartelt2000
      @jbartelt2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done this at least 20 or more times successfully, and probably broke 4 or 5 extractors over the years. The trick is to gage the level of corrosion before you start. If I'm working on a carb that is badly corroded I won't even attempt to use a screw driver on it until it's gone a few rounds in the ultrasonic cleaner or boiled in a mix of distilled water a and 2% vinegar for 15 min. Heat is also your friend, I always heat the area where the threads are with a propane or butane torch. It expands the aluminum and loosens varnish that might be in the threads.

      @@NielsenValleyFarms So you have the jet out but the nozzle is stuck? I would try cleaning it in an ultrasonic cleaner or boiling the carb for about 10 minutes in distilled water and vinegar. Try to knock out the nozzle while it is still hot. Shock it by taping it down on a piece of soft wood. The other option is to drill and tap a 4-40 thread in the center of it and use a screw to pull it out. If you go the screw route the nozzle will be destroyed and will need to be replaced.
