Amaran lights and DJI gear UNBOXING
It's a new year and I decided to do a bit of upgrading for my TH-cam channel. After reading up on new products I purchased the DJI Mini microphone. If you are looking for a TH-cam mic that is small and easy to use this just might be the perfect microphone for TH-cam.
I also Invested in some Amaran lights for the studio.
In this unboxing video I also feature a new soft box from Apurture.

I recently came across an old mixing console that I could resist to purchase. It's a 1975 Vintage Yamaha M1532 console that needed a lot of work. Recently there is a lot of buzz around this consoles PM1000 which is often compared to Neve (japaneve Pres) This video I discuss why I decided to take on this project and how I'm going to use this vintage recording console in my home studio. Looks rigid and unwelcoming. Probably some kind of UA jail. If you are not a hardcore UA user just get a Reaper.
Haha I personally like the look of Luna over Reaper. Mind you the skin options in Reaper are pretty good…. For the most part
LUNA IS THE BEST
What about reason Propeller head?
That is a good question. It’s been a long time since I used reason. I think the last time I used Reason was 20 years ago so I’m sure a lot has changed. I’ll put that on my review list 😀
The midi implementation is absolutely horrible in this daw. That. Being said. I really look forward to making the switch once they get that sorted. It’s got some great features, sounds great and looks great. I really wish I could work with their team to fix the midi. It’s eventually going to be a great daw
Very good advice saying to get quick and efficient.
And still a shite HB 😂
Haha
Don't type free, when it is not free. &/#%&/#€"&/)%#)
Sorry which one isn’t free? This video is a few years old so I’m sure some of them changed since
Great overview! I've been playing around with Luna a bit lately. Still figuring out where and how to do a lot of things that are second nature for me in Studio One. I agree that the screen is a bit crowded (especially on my 16" MacBook Pro screen), but there's a lot that I really like about it. I like that it has a feel of good old traditional recording and it hasn't crashed on me once. There are still a few quirky things, but they keep releasing updates that make it more and more usable - Bounce/Render audio most recently. As far as the expense of the plugins, Spark is a great option if you catch it on sale. That's come a long way as well. I've been picking up their native plugins here and there as they are on sale which makes them very affordable (and no WUP like Waves).
Completely wrong on the price
Sorry those prices were the msrp at the time I made the short
Love that the tube lights come with little punches! Lol great video
Thanks so much. Those lights are so much fun. I can’t wait to do more with them
That mic is so cool
It really is :D
Coming from Ableton Live's interface, this looks very very cluttered
Yes absolutely. I agree they have a lot going on
I've got a 2x12 100 watt amp katana and i did not know you used a computer with it or the down load ect and not computer minded lol😢
I just got a MKii 100 Head cheap. I got the head because I have a Katana Go that is the best thing I've ever purchased! The internal speaker on the head is not that good compared to my Spark mini. I set up the Mk2 on my very old MacBook running os 10.13. Good thing they still have the old driver for download.
Subscription for Logic? What are you talking about...
Haha can you refresh my memory on where I said subscription for logic? I don’t remember saying that but maybe I said that instead of saying protools? I know I made that reference in the video but don’t remember saying logic :D. If I did I probably ment to say Pro Tools
Yeah I just went through the video and from what I see there’s no reference to me saying Logic is a subscription. But… in case I missed it let me know where you saw it and I’ll make a pop up or something to correct it :D
@@nickiden My mistake :) For some strange reason when you said Pro Tools I heard Logic Pro... go figure.
@ haha it’s all good honestly I wouldn’t be surprised. Sometimes when I film these videos I do accidentally say the wrong thing and don’t catch till months after I post. :D
J'ESPÈRE.. JE LA RECOIS BIENTOT... J'ESPÈRE QUE CA VAUT LA PEINE
For creating voiceover samples and for recording virtual sessions via Source Connect, are your DAW recs the same? I would seldom need more than 3-4 tracks so track count isn't an issue, just compatibility with SC and with the engineers on the other end. I know they don't take G-band seriously from a previous virtual session I had. Thanks!
That’s a good question. It looks like GarageBand does have capability issues. I think Pro Tools or even the free version of reaper will work just fine with SC
i’d hope so!
Haha
Why does the camera keep zooming in and out?
Mainly for a couple reasons. To keep it interesting but to also hide an edit cut… haha most likely there was an edit
Cheap because they are. Somebody needs to strip it down to the capsule and circuit board. The plain wood box without any padding is a joke.
Yeah the box is pretty unusable. Great if you have kids. They love them haha
I’ve got a 1516 in great condition 3.5k Aud. But… there are a few channels that need a good clean. Any help with dismantling the channels without breaking anything, would be amazing!
Yes absolutely. I am about to film the 2nd video for this restore for this and I’ll put in a part for taking out a channel strip for sure. Have you used the 1516 a lot for recoding?
@ ahhh legend! Thanks Nick I’ve recorded about 10 tracks on it so far, with a few key inserts. Sounds beautiful! Smoother eq’s than I anticipated. Hopefully I can figure out how to mod 4 of the eq’s (not totally necessary) just for a little extra variety.
Those are the most tilted pickups I have ever seen lol
Haha yeah they are :D
Luna is an interesting DAW. I have taken a little time to play around with the Windows version of Luna. I mostly track with Harrison Mixbus now, which is my preferred DAW. Doesn't sound anywhere near as good as MixBus but it's promising for sure Let's see where UA goes with this once all of the clinks are ironed out.
Thank you very much for the video. I've been trying to find a video like this one and its been really hard because the youtube search would only bring up advertisement videos from software companies promoting their own solution. I'm glad TH-cam now randomly suggested this video to me. A bit sad that Cakewalk isn't available anymore and was replaced with BandLab, which is also free but not comprimise-free. I'll still test it out. But I hadn't heard about SoundBridge and Waveform before, will give it a look!
I hear a weird clicking sound with it is that normal?
I’m not sure. Is it clicking during loop playback? And is it any time you playback?
@ its making clickimg noises like tap tap tap….. and even if im not looping its still making that noise
Putting an expensive microphone on a cheap speaker cab. Makes perfect sense to me!
Haha I would put all kinds of mic’s on cheap cabs
Seth lover wide range pickups are best sounding pups for blues.😊
I will have to check those out :D
Had one just like this in the 70's. Best blues guitar ever made.😊
Yeah I absolutely love this guitar
Wish you could disable or tweak noise gate without the app but I have the Bluetooth adapter coming soon.
Oh you will have to let me know how the adapter works with the amp and software
It’s a piece of shit but it only cost 40 bucks on Amazon. I’ve bought three in total. They aren’t even the slightest bit water safe, the foot switch will wear out really fast leaving you with inconsistent cutoffs and unfluid looping. I busk for a living and I use mine for about 5 hours a day. I’ve bought three in the last year and a half
Yeah I can totally see if you use this a lot it would break. Did you upgrade to something else?
@@nickiden I’m looking to buy a used rc20 for 80 bucks
It's such a cool guitar. I don't know if I like how it looks though.
I like it. But I think it reminds me of being in high school and I’m being nostalgic
@@nickiden I like it too. I mean, it's a kurt cobain guitar. That's really cool even if the guitar sucked ass. Luckily it's also a really good guitar.
4:30 THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO LET ME KNOW ABOUT THOSE TRICKS TO GET MUSICIANS, I DIDN'T KNOW, WE HAD TO PAY A CUT TO THE PROGRAM? UNBELIEVABLE! WHAT A BUNCH OF CROOKS! I RATHER BUY THE MACHINE AND RECORD +KNOWING I DON'T OWE ANYTHING TO THOSE CROOKS!!!
You’re welcome. :D
The epiphone casino is its own entity. It’s not a copy of anything
I mean kinda. It’s roughly based off the es 330. I don’t think it’s a direct copy but designed to fill that hollow body gap in the Epiphone line.
I see a number of comments from Avid PT users considering switching to UAD. I can only guess that some people like to be abused, and they're looking for a new abuser. Also, switching from a has been around forever industry standard, to a DAW that's very much under development, and whose future is uncertain would be a highly questionable move - if music is your business. Full disclosure, software is my business, and making music is fun and therapy.
Those great points. I think if you are an established engineer using protools I’d stick with it. My video was really only touching on music production, if you are an audio engineer that does other forms of audio like adr I wouldn’t switch.
just got waveform a little hard for me to get around at first but once i got to it i am breezing
It’s a solid piece of software once you get into it.
Deal is it's so straight forward everything at the tip of the fingers
It really is once you get into it
Damn I hate how much I love the idea of this amp..
I know right? The split reverb is amazinf
If you know the price is wrong, don’t you think you should just take the video down?
It was the suggested retail. Not technically wrong. At the time of that video I think they were just coming to market
By this point, everyone has their tuners and straps and string winders and whatnot. A guitar pedal, something unique made by an independent builder, however, is a different story.
Yeah I think an independent built pedal would be great.
Ibanez...?
Yeah I’m sure Ibanez would have a lot of fantastic guitars in this price range
I assume this is the MacOS version you're using. How is it compared to the Windows version? I'm getting ready to pick up an M4 Mac Mini, and I wanna try Luna there until I have enought to pick up Logic Pro, but if it's as buggy as the Windows version, forget it. I suspect it probably isn't anywhere near that buggy; after all, they offer a paid Luna Pro option for 200 bucks. It's gotta be at least borderline usable.
Yeah I’m running the macOS version on a M1 and it’s been solid. I think the windows version is better now but if you are using macOS with a M4 it should be zero issues.
yeah, Reaper can do more than Luna it is smaller and faster have million skins but.. it can't do the Luna looks and feel
REMEMBER, THE BRIDGE ACTION IS HORRIBLE AND IS BARELY PLAYABLE
Next time I play one I’ll look at the bridge action for sure :D. Haha it’s been a while
I’m okay with Luna❤
I like it too :D
Waves IDX sounds like plastic
Haha I’ve never noticed before
Just ordered one, I always thought they looked so cool. It seems it can be jammed with unplugged fairly well too.
They are great looking guitars. I use mine unplugged all the time :D
They made es-330’s with the “long neck” which joins to the body at the 19th fret. So it doesn’t really tell you anything about whether or not it hollow or semi-hollow. A better way to be able to tell is if there is a stopbar tailpiece because you can’t mount one on a hollow guitar.
How come on certain channels, when I switch to brown to clean the volume drops so much ?
I would guess its the booster effect being active in brown and off in clean
I deleted Pro Tools for Luna
The Pro is now on sale for $99. I'm tempted to get it, even though I've most of the plugins / extensions already. Great video, BTW! :)
Me too
Thanks :D. That’s awesome it’s on sale now
I bought Pro, and with Coupert there is $25.00 off as well off that $99 price too!
