Bright Run Festival 28km🥇 // impromptu race weekend
Bailed on life and snuck down to Bright for the weekend. Best place, best company, best time. Pinned a number on for our long run and finally found the elusive first victory! Seh took the W too! Power couple no less.

Been a bit of a switch up compared to how most weeks exist. Far less running and a whole lot more dog-related activities. Polly's gonna be on the ultra-dog program in no time. Bloody love this sport. Went into this one a little uncertain of my health, a sniffly nose helping me make a conservative start. Turns out I eased into the race well and finished feeling strong. A solid race ontop of a fun holiday vibe made the weekend one for the memory bank for sure. www.elephanttrailrace.com.au Scope the deets on Strava - www.strava.com/athletes/436771

Training for an ultramarathon is tiring. Throw in work and family on top of that and it's a wonder I achieve anything even remotely productive. Most of the hard running is behind me now. Great video
Thanks Tom! Had fun with this one.
That puppy! All the more reason to keep watching :)
Haha she’s pretty cute!
So sorry you had to experience this type of situation. However, you handled it with incredible integrity and humility. Onwards and upwards for your next adventures, Luke.
Thanks Julie! Not everything goes to plan always, just gotta enjoy what you can and move on I guess. Here’s to more adventures 🍻
Speedgoat 6 👎
Haha yeah I departed from the Hoka ecosystem about 12 months ago. So many better options!
Looks like a Nnormal Tomir.
For sure! Both fairly paired back aesthetically. 🤙
great video!!! I hope to run my first 100miler next year!!!
Thanks so much. 100miles! Huge! Best of luck. 🙏
Trivial question... You're keen on Nordas. You dipped your toes into Nnormal shoes? Appreciate the content you put out. Look forward to the dog running content in a year...
I slid my foot into a pair once. Too narrow for my liking - think Salomon snug fitting-esque. I like their vibe though. Thanks!
For people that have this shoe how well do these shoes do when wet/in rain? Are they water resistant or dry quickly? Are these comfortable enough for all day walking or day hikes? I was looking at these as a travel shoe for walking all day on sidewalks, cobble stone, the occasional day hike, etc, but wasn’t sure if these would work or I should look for a different kind of shoe?
The Dyneema upper is a fairly tight weave, which seems to keep light moisture out quite well. Once completely wet on the inside they don’t dry that well though. I’ve worn the 001’s casually and absolutely loved them for walking and general day-to-day use.
Been looking at this event for a couple weeks, thought I'd search in the hopes someone had filmed it, and did not disappoint! Awesome vid and great run mate! Got yourself a new viewer for sure :)
Ah thanks mate! Do it for sure. You’ll 100% regret it for all the right reasons 😂.
Stumbled across these videos when looking for running inspiration, great wholesome content. Out of curiosity Luke what camera do you around the house? I bought a Sony a7ii but gave up trying to workout and would love an automatic one.
Thanks mate! I use a Sony ZVE1, but that also requires some camera know-how. Action cams and iPhone are about as fool proof as cameras get and are actually pretty good quality these days. Good luck 🤙
Congrats to you both on your successful week, just getting away is sometimes the answer to everything, and that with an amazing pup! Maybe your sponsors can pony up for that property... 😀
Haha thanks Bruce. Might be a long shot but we’re willing to try anything 😂
Awesome puppy guys! That's a heck of a week's training. Look forward to following your next adventure. (Googles where Bright and Hounslow are)
Thanks mate! Yeah both quality zones to go running in Australia. 🤙
Such a good race! I did the 50, was awesome seeing you absolutely send that punkah descent as I was on my way up 😂
Yeah you did! Hope the weather held out for you guys. It got pretty wild on our drive home 🤙
Well done on a nice adventure
Never had a bad trip to Bright. Thanks!
👏👏👏 where do you store your 360 when not filming
Never not filming Lenny. But it would be cool if they made some kind of wearable vest you could store useful items you need when running but don’t want to carry. I’ll look into it 😂
@@lukewbarrett 😆😆😆 where in your pack do you find it fits best I've been playing around with positions on my pack haven't found the perfect spot as yet
I’ll show you my secrets at Hounslow
Man I just want to say, I look forward to these videos every week. you've truly inspired me to get out there and kick some ass. I've got my first backyard ultra this next march and two 20k races this fall
Ah mate, thanks so much! Kind words. Hopefully it doesn’t ruin your week when I don’t post 😂
I knew it! I knew you'd get podium at your next race! Congrats man!
A prophetic vision! Haha so good. Thanks 🤙
@@lukewbarrett saw Sarah was wearing the Tecton 2s. Has she given the 3s a try? I’ve had them two weeks and loving them. Love my Norda 002s for everyday miles though!
Nah, she does enjoy the 2s though! I imagine she’ll give them a go once this pair gives up.
Well done! And love seeing that pup
Thanks! I think Polly is already more popular than I’ll ever be 😂
How many pairs of nordas you got?
3 pairs of 001’s and 1 002s 🤙
Bright my happy place, too. Congrats to you both on the 🏆. Good luck at Hounslow
Thanks Phil!
Good luck with the race - are you taking on UTMB Kosci this year?
Thanks mate! Nah not this year, I’ll probably give the UTMB circuit a break for a few years. Too many other fun races! 🤙
Scenery 😍
You guys should go!
Great vlog! Loved the trail reccie- and now I want to do Hounslow classic.
Do it!!!
Great work mate! Looks like a cracking race! Send it 🚀
Haha thanks man! Gonna be so fun.
What drone do you take running?? How good is short ridge pass
Short ridge is wild! First time there in fact. Can’t wait to get back. I have a mini 3 pro 🤙
MCBC ftw. Hounslow will be good specificity for uta miler
We’ll see about UTA miler… I suspect the entry price will hurt more than the course 😂
Stunning part of the world for a race. Awesome footage as always, hope you keep well prior to race day.
Thanks man. Yeah so sick up there. Can’t wait!
Love when we get a new vid! You got your eyes on the Norda 005s??
Thanks! Yeah absolutely. V interested. Did I completely miss the 004 though? Keen regardless.
@@lukewbarrett No idea what the deal is with 004! Odd to skip one, I’m sure there’ll be something soon
Maybe they’re going with the Fibonacci sequence!
@@lukewbarrett ohhh interesting. Can’t wait to see the 008s then! 😂
babe, wake up! new luke barrett video just dropped!
Hahaha. Sleep is superior every time in my opinion. Hope it was worth your while though!
Great vlog as always
Cheers! 🤙
7:56 I see you. Slick sync transition. Love the content. I recently really started to dial specificity in and make more time to do mountain runs. Makes a world of difference.
Haha thanks. Running in the mountains is also just objectively more enjoyable too I think. Win win!
the vitamix is so versatile.., that's an easy one you did.., but you can make soup and stuff too
Absolutely! Mostly mine just blends my sugar drinks though 😂
Do you take the 002 same size with 001?
Yeah mate. Exact same fit between the two models 🤙
Had the same issue with a pair of Speedgoats and a pair of Arahi 7’s. Same location on both pairs and same fault. Love the shoes but hate the failure….
So bad! Let men down too many times to go back.
Got myself a pair of Tarkine Trail Devils as an alternative which have been good so far. (Only early days so far!)
I’m up over 1600km in my first pair of Norda 001’s now - still going strong too!
bad luck mate - Next time
Thanks mate. All smiles!
This is my favourite video you’ve ever made. She is actually the most beautiful baby.
Anything for the most beautiful lady in my life 🙃
Adorable. Looking forward to lots more Polly in your content!! 😊
Running content may indeed take a backseat on this channel now 😂
I ran this event once and never again. course designed by none runners which i personally hated. Then was told we could not even walk out on course to cheer on our friends! as if they owned the whole forest.
Their race their rules though I guess. Plenty of other sick races to choose from these days so I’m sure there’s something out there for you. I’m heading up to Hounslow next month to tick that one off the bucket list. Can’t wait!
@@lukewbarrett yes true mate. jabulani next w/end then C2S sunday. first ever road marathon Sydney September. Austinmer/Thirroul home of legends!!!
Loved seeing more of Polly this video! Random q, but where do you get your plain white/black tees from? Been looking to grab me some more.
So sick! Most of my black shirts are a cheap Salomon one that I can’t seem to find anymore. Bought 6 of them in total but they’re nearing end of life. I have a new black LSKD one that seems ok so far. White shirt is Ciele. I’m on the lookout for the next one that nails the fit / quality / price matrix and I’ll load up again. Hope that helps!
Also keen to hear what trails you’re going to start running on with Polly when she’s ready! I’m in Wollongong too and not sure what ones are dog friendly atm
Ah so good. Yeah I haven’t really thought about it. Probably just the locals around me. They’re pretty quiet and also not national parks. Often a few trail dogs out and about around Bulli so I guess over there is good to go? 🤷♂️
I also got a puppy a few weeks ago so can totally relate with the dog taking up your time and energy ahah definitely refreshing to hear it from someone else. Can’t wait to watch your Polly grow up and be a running buddy. Can’t wait for mine to be ready for runs.
So much work right! Much reward too though so no complaints.
Beautiful dog. We've got a Collie but waiting for his body to be ready to start building a tiny running base felt painfully slow but needs to be done:) Enjoy the new addition.
Thanks mate, so good! Patience is so hard though! I want to go running with her now! 😂 But yes, slow steps and she’ll be an ultra dog in no time. 🤙
Your recovery week is my peak week 😁- and the dog is super cute
Haha it’s all relative man. Just gotta be consistent! Cheers 🤙
Runno's & doggo's. I'm here for it.
Haha thanks mate. Good to have you here!
Ah post race is always a good time for recovery and reflection but also just for being normal, to have time to just be and jump out of that zone to catch up on the personal side of life. Good luck with Polly, you wont regret it and keep an eye on the toes, Ive had some right bad infections over the years forcing time out just because I was a bit slack with looking after the loss of nails. Take it easy.
Thanks mate. Toes are good to go again! 🤙
Nothing like a setback to motivate you further - you handled this so well despite how gutted you must feel. reminder to myself- read the course map (twice)!
You know it! The fire is burning that’s for sure. Thanks mate! And yes, reading course maps is indeed (in retrospect) excellent advice 😂🙄🤙
Eh, you aren't using it properly 😂
How dare I put them on my feet and run on the trails 🤣
Ah so devo. You’ll be making another winning video soon - I have no doubt! 👏🏽 🏆 💪🏽
Courtenay! I am always filled to the brim with nothing but doubts, but thanks! 😂
Gutted for you but know that you’ll dust yourself off and get back out there to do what you love the most 🤘 Hope to see you at GSER one year soon 🙏
Thanks mate. All smiles here. GSER is in fact a strong maybe to round out the year this year!
That sucks! Good on ya for making this explanatory apology, though. As you said, there’s always next year. 😊
Yeah all good. Still had a fun time and a good run which has to count for something! No hard feelings. Onto the next one!
