Guide to Writing Your Statement of Purpose - Health Informatics
Hi. I just returned to college and I decided to become an Informatics Specialist. One of my classes requires that I interview someone who is already in the field. I would need 20 minutes of someone's time virtually or on paper. I'm having a hard time finding someone to interview and I would be very thankful.
Hello you can email me at healthanalyticinsights@gmail.com
You have such a professional attitude and a calming voice. Thanks for the great information.
Thank you so much for the kind comment!
How can a nurse become a health informatics ?
Thank you for the information. I am starting my masters in HIM, drifting from Being a dentist but have 5yrs experience in healthcare insurance and data analysis. Am just struggling making time to study and take needed courses to improve my knowledge. Your video helps though ❤🎉
retail pharmacist for over 17 years. looking to go get MHI. i do want to be able to work more so on the IT side as opposed to the clinical side. do you have any experience with pharmacists?
Thank you
This is great. Hearing this as a dentist is very informative and encouraging.
Thanks for listening!
Wow. exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Thank you for your kind comment!
I am a current graduated of Health Information Management. Can I get a job in Health Informatics?
Sure AHIMA has a list of job titles within different areas of the health informatics field: my.ahima.org/careermap
Please, could you be my mentor as I subcribe to yr channel? This field is bew to me even though am a graduate. Thanks.
You can email me at healthanalyticinsights@gmail.com
I've a Master's in Health Informatics Administration and I don't know how to transition as I don't really know which job title to choose.
Some roles in the health informatics field include: business intelligence analyst, systems analyst, reporting analyst and/or clinical analyst. If you are looking for comparable job descriptions, one tip I have is to search on LinkedIn Jobs or Indeed: "SQL" + "Healthcare" or "Power BI" + "Healthcare" to get a sense of the job roles and see if this is of interest to you. If you look at this career map from AHIMA my.ahima.org/careermap, the Informatics and Data Analytics sections would be relevant to you.
I’m so glad I’ve found this page, you’re literally dropping gems!!!!✨
Thank you for your kind words!
I have my BS in Heathcsre Administration and have been working as a financial analyst for 3 years and now heavily considering my masters in health informatics. I am worried about having a lack of clinical/medical terminology under my belt, also I’m not huge into math either.. do you think I would be okay in my classes?
Hello, I work in health informatics but my degrees are in biomedical engineering so I wouldn't be able to comment on the course material for a master's in health informatics. However, I think that since you have prior experience working as a financial analyst you probably have a good grasp on technical tools such as Excel and Power BI so this should help you with the technical aspect. In terms of the clinical terminology there are several resources online here is a free resource here: www.healthit.gov/topic/health-it-resources/health-it-curriculum-resources-educators but you should be able to pick it up during your class, good luck!
Is your schedule more like a 9-5 schedule? Or 3 days a week, 12 hours?
Hello 9-5 schedule
u voice loo low 😁😁
Hi.. I studied Engineering (IT) and I worked in healthcare for few months as a system navigator (EMR). If I study Health Informatics, will that be useful for my career??
Hello, are you looking to go into the area of healthcare analytics? If so, health informatics would be a good degree to study. Some roles in this field include a Clinical Analyst, Reporting Analyst and/or Clinical Data Analyst. I got started by learning data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and SQL. I have created a video that goes into more detail here: th-cam.com/video/KcHWZ8bc5yc/w-d-xo.html&lc=Ugy39KtH-kk-RDOGRx94AaABAg
Hello, My Bachelor's is in Engineering post that am working in Healthcare. Now planning to do Masters in US. Could you please advise should i take MBA Healthcare or MHA Health Administration or MHI Health Informatics course. " Others who is viewing this comment you to can comment on the same" thank you in advance
It depends on the career you are hoping to work towards. If you are interested in being a healthcare data analyst, or similar, an MHI Health Informatics course would be preferable, if you are looking to go into healthcare management roles then an MBA or MHA in health administration might be a better fit
@@healthanalyticinsights Thanks a lot but which is better in these three MBA, MHA, MHI ...right now am working in Clearing House RCM need ur suggestion
@@basanth_vlogs I work in the Health Informatics field but my master's degree is in Biomedical Engineering, therefore, I did not take any of these degrees (MBA, MHA or MHI) and wouldn't be able to comment on which one is better, hopefully, someone here can provide some feedback
Thank you so much for this channel and podcast. It's beyond helpful.
Thanks so much for watching, much appreciated!
If you were a healthcare provider, what would your path be to transition to healthcare informatics? Is a formal degree required?
Hello Jon if I were a healthcare provider I would see if my healthcare organization has a business intelligence or clinical decision support department and see if I could job shadow to understand any technical skill gaps and then pivot into this industry. I would also learn SQL and a data visualization tool such as Power BI and lean on my network to understand if there are any available opportunities before seeking out a degree. If I wanted to work on the clinical side of health informatics and I was currently working as a nurse I would try to get additional training on EHR systems, become a super-user and apply for a role as an EHR Analyst or Application Analyst, focusing on improving clinical workflow within my organization.
Are there courses I could take to get a feel for the career path and add to my resume prior to jumping in to a masters degree?
@@jon1268 Hi Jon, I have developed a course where I walk you through building a Hospital KPI dashboard by providing you with a fake clinical dataset. In this course, I walk you through how to develop your Power BI skills and write SQL queries. You can learn more about the course here: healthanalyticinsights.com/?page_id=1195
I love that you showed an example of stuff you'd actually work with for your Day in the Life section. It's so hard to find people actually showing what they do. I don't think the analytics side is for me but I'm glad I can finally know. Now to find a video of the other side of Health Informatics lol
Thank you for watching, if you are looking for the clinical side of health informatics (e.g., working on improving clinical workflow, EHR integration etc...) you might interested in the role of the Application Analyst. AHIMA has a list of job titles within different areas of the health informatics field: my.ahima.org/careermap good luck!
@@healthanalyticinsightsThank you!
Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for creating this podcast! I am a data engineer looking to pivot into healthcare data science and policy, so I find your topics to be very interesting and insightful 👍🏽
Thank you for listening, good luck on the pivot!
Is health informatics and clinical informatics are same.?
IMO yes those terms are the same and interchangeable
All the job listings I see want Registered Nurses
Have you looked at roles with titles: Clinical Analyst, Clinical Decision Support or Healthcare Data Analyst, these roles are more technical focused and might not require a RN
Thank you for your dedication in sharing so much insights in this field! Very encouraging podcast. I am just starting on actively venturing into this field, what roles would you suggest that doesn't heavily involve on presentation. Or rather a role within HI suited for introverts. Thanks!
Hello, I am also introverted 🙂a role as a healthcare data analyst might be a good fit because there is a good portion of solo analysis work to be done, although most roles will require some presentation of your work to internal/external stakeholders. You can check out my video on some of the skills needed for the healthcare data analyst role here: th-cam.com/video/G-HJdeU-gFE/w-d-xo.html
EDUCATIVE.

Hello, I have been working as a service desk analyst at a hospital for the past 10 years and over the years I have had exposure to all the EMR systems such as Epic and all other clinical applications. I've just recently come across this field because I wanted to advance into something different but still connected with Information technology...Do you think this would be a good field to get into since I am already working in a hospital setting and I have found an online masters in healthcare informatics program that I'm going to inquire about. Would that open up more opportunities for me?
Hello, since you have prior experience working with EHR systems this would be a good field to pivot into, you can look for job roles such as an EHR Analyst or Application Analyst, you can see more job titles here through the AHIMA website: my.ahima.org/careermap
Can I break into this field with only a Bachelors of Science in kinesiology and health science? I have clinical experience in a nursing home and with SAS in undergrad
I would say yes, some job postings only highlight the need for a "health-related degree" and I work with people from various different backgrounds, what will really set you apart from other applicants is your prior experience.
@@healthanalyticinsights thanks!
thank you for this!

Can you reach a health informatics career with a HIM bachelor’s degree?
Yes you can, some common technical tools used in the analytical side of health informatics include: -Knowledge of SQL programming language to query relational databases. -Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.… -Experience working with large clinical datasets including manipulating, maintaining, preparing data, and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences. -Ability to work both independently and in teams
Great podcast. Thank you

Can I get into this field with a computer science degree?
You could start out working in a role in the IT department, with a CS degree, at a hospital such as a Help Desk Analyst and transition into a health informatics role
Hi I’m working in healthcare industry and I have done my bachelors in computer science(India). I would like to pursue Health Informatics in USA. Is it possible??
Hello, I am based in Canada so I am not able to answer from a US perspective. However, some general skills for health informatics role include: -Knowledge of SQL programming language to query relational databases. -Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.… -Experience working with large clinical datasets including manipulating, maintaining, preparing data, and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences. -Ability to work both independently and in teams
Do you organize a class on this? If yes, when is your next session?
hlthanalyticinsights.gumroad.com/l/becomeahealthcareanalyst When I was transitioning into the healthcare data analytics field and developing my technical skills, one area that I found missing was a lack of online courses highlighting a clinical problem (e.g., determining re-admission rates back to hospitals). There are several analytical courses out there but I couldn't find anything that could help me to gain experience working with a clinical dataset so that I could practice my technical skills and build a portfolio project that would be relevant for hiring managers in the healthcare data analytics field. I ended up creating this course found here: hlthanalyticinsights.gumroad.com/l/becomeahealthcareanalyst
