Optimizing Your Hand Training for Armwrestling
Strong! I am new to wrist exercises, and I get pain in the tendons in every wrist exercise, even without any load, almost. Is that normal when you are just starting out?
When I first get back to using a wrist wrench my wrist tendons burn for a workout or two but that’s it. If you’re hurting consistently even without any load I’m not sure what to say.
Fantastic idea, very well structured and successful. I hope the club stays afloat Chris ❗
do you get those tendon pops (no pain) just uncomfortable feeling when doing wrist curls? if you do, how do you go about it?
No
So now you are the dungeon master
delet this
@@ChrisDrummondAW 💪
Can you please film your sessions
occasionally some filming will be done. Maybe i’ll put regular stuff behind a membership
On the riser lift my limiting factor is back pressure.
how did you arrive at that conclusion? please don't tell me you supported your forearm and magically lifted more that way.
@ChrisDrummondAW I put my forearm on my hip. But how would that help my riser?
@ChrisDrummondAW 34.4 kg without support of hip and 37.5 with.
Because your extensor carpi radialis crosses the elbow joint so supporting your forearm unloads that muscle group and allows you to lift more with your riser. But that sounds like a terrible way to do it. What’s your backpressure lift? I bet it’s heavier than that.
@ChrisDrummondAW back pressure is around 38 - 40 kg, but I almost don't train it directly - mostly by doing pronator lift, or doing weighted pull ups.
Nothing wrong with running a disciplined club. I think in a lot of practices people try to be practice heroes.
Good on you, Chris. Great to see. I'm in Scotland and wish we had more clubs like you are advocating. Master the sport. Not just destroy your arm every practice.
Where in Scotland do you live?
TH-cam algorithm boosting comment 💪 ... structured training with drills is really good! instead of random chaos 😆 coach Ray, Janis, Latvian team has a good setup. hope more of us adopt this. some already have, wonderful to see
I ABSOLUTELY agree with your message , table time should be soft pulling , finding counters and taking feedback . It should be more cerebral , a game of chess .. Make Armwrestling Clubs great again !
🤠👋💪🌏
Too much training and table time is why i was stuck for months. Stopped training as hard and much, every lift went up by a large margin lmao
Recovery time is KEY
I've been saying this for a while now, me and my local groups are implementing this as well. If I have time this year I'd love to stop by. Stay strong!
Get in the dungeon boys.
Thats pretty strong Chris. I remember you were at 100ish 6x6s. This is still my favourite wrist exercise along with isolated wrist wrench .
Petrenko did 50kg for 19 reps on his ig story yesterday. I wonder what he can do for a working set. I think after these neural adaptations are set in I’ll probably settle around 55kg for sets of 6
@ChrisDrummondAW He is an animal. For sure he can rep 60kg working sets.
this is quite a lot i do the same with half that weight lol
did you see devon completely stonewalling grumby lmao
Devon is in ridiculous shape right now.
this should be enough to deal with grumby for now
Idk. I always was better on left but I don’t know that I could’ve won that 4 way, in fact I don’t think I could’ve gotten through Breda. Maybe later this year I could but I don’t think I’ve ever been capable of that.
With the strength you have, do toprollers bust your wrist back or not. Also how do your numbers on the wrist wrench look like
Ford or chevy
I've owned 3 corvettes but otherwise I'm a Ford guy.
@@ChrisDrummondAW sick what generation vettes? and best ford motor in your opinion?
What do you think is the preferred set/rep range for these?
Heavy weight bud. Thats double the weight i can do. I just started doing them after i seen your video about full range wrist curls
Good stuff but don't you find them easier with the fatgrip? Once i took mine off i noticed i can do 1 or 2 reps less than i usually would...
I use the fat grip to make the exercise more accurate, not to make it harder or easier. Without a fat grip you really have to focus on keeping your hand closed tightly, not holding it your fingers. The fat grip actually helps the wrist a little bit by moving the point of load down towards the wrist slightly but makes it harder on the hand by moving the load away from the palm.
I can't do full ROM wrist curls on my left hand because when I do full ROM my wrist tendon shifts and it's uncomfortable idk how to fix this
You're probably gripping the dumbbell in a bad way.
@@ChrisDrummondAW I don't think so since I grip the handle as the same way as I do it on the right
Well I don’t know how to fix it either then.
Do you do warm up sets before this?
Of course
@ whats your recommended warm up sets & reps? Also rest times, thank you so much for the response
Fuck yeh Chris. Just drinking my coffee and farer seeing those reps, I'm quite a lot more awake now
this is why i wanna only compete in 75 kg category 😂
I can wait to see you bench
It’s honestly not that great. Been struggling to get my max above the low 400s for years.
@@ChrisDrummondAWnot that great💀
Strong dude
I’m doing your elbow ucl recovery right now. Actually the part about the most advanced training that we’re not ready for looks a lot like the position of the dangerous part in this video. Except the hand/finger position. Is it really that far apart? Just because a wrist wrench in stead of the strap I’m using right now according to your ucl video😊 Really nice videos
The difference is for rehab you start from 0 and do long holds and don’t commit your shoulder. You’re not trying to lift 100lbs when you’re rehabbing your ucl, you’re trying to be able to hold 20 without it hurting.
@ thanks for replying. I’ve progressed to about 25 lbs for 5 x 30 secs. When do I know that I’m ready for light table time?
I’m not sure I can tell you how to know when you’re ready. Keep adding weight and time and start with just grip-ups without any pulling and see how things feel.
@ thanks a lot. Have a good one
He’s back
long way to go..... 😅
@ story of our lives
Can I ask you reps and kg of first 2 exercises? Ps how big is your w wrench?
I said the weight in pounds and reps before each weight change.
@ yes but i’m not english i can t understand very well. I can write but it’s difficult to hear
What do you recommend for containment “hypertrophy”
@@Bartz147 turn on Caption CC, this should help
@@ChrisDrummondAWwith subtitles i got it 💪💪
Great sportsmanship by everyone, great matches!
Looks like youre cupped in a fair bit for the Mazurenko, should it also be done with neutral wrist? Like hand parallel to the direction of the cable?
rack pulls? surprised u didnt talk about it when speaking on the different kinds of finger strength, vitaly does heavy holds strapless and it seems to work for him, what you think?
You prefer the dumbbell method over cables with an AW handle?
This isn't a specific armwrestling exercise. For the purpose I'm trying to accomplish with this exercise, this is better than using a handle on a cable, yes.
@ I watched your video discussing the benefits of the full rom and it just made sense. I’m far enough away from my next comp, I’ve programmed them in for a while.
"Woah a little knee cave." LMAO. Critiquing your form mid-set with 455 lbs is crazy. Love it.
Strong, btw I know it has nothing to do with the video but how much do you think wrist curls transfer on the table? I actually started doing it after your video talking about the full rom wrist curls
This is a insane start. Btw I really like your big calves
My legs were always good. My back was always weak. I used to do some powerlifting so it’s not like I never built up a big squat before, it’s just been a very long time.
@ChrisDrummondAW i understand, btw, me everytime I try something for the lover part I get pain, it is from a accident in the past. As a armwrestler do you recommend me to care about that part
squat cns firing gains?
I know a senior in my school who squats 5plates💀
Cool. I could only do a single at 455 when I was 18. I stopped giving a fuck about how much younger or smaller guys can lift when Jesse Norris broke the ATWR in the 198 class going 700/400/700 at only 18.
Holy calves
Never really trained them except a bit in high school. All the men in my family have legs.
That's a hell of a start. Strong hips.
Weak back 😅
Im putting everyone in my team palm up, ty Chris
ths should suffice for brad
You know, him winning that 4 way makes me doubt i can take him on left anymore. Breda, Trevin Worke, and Dillon Williamson are all total badasses.
Algo.
6x6? Aren't 6 sets too much? Hope im wrong
Great explanation video. But seriously, on max effort day there is always immense side pressure bone pain. Does that ever subside or do your bones always have to readapt as weight increases?
Well since you're doing some kind of side pressure on a regular basis on conjugate you should always be getting stronger. I don't get that pain when I've been training more than a few weeks.
@ Thank you. And yes I train sidepressure on a regular basis so hopefully time (and a boatload of collagen supplements) will strengthen them.
I have been doing the exercise that Levan injured himself - my wrist has become like a wall !
Please keep it up, dude. Big fan of your perspective. Refreshing with all the surface level AW stuff that's out there.
