weekend for me is the perfect blend of intimacy and silent alarm. it has the more experimental edge of intimacy whilst keeping a very firm grasp in the post punk sound of the first album whilst also being a much moodier and reflective take on it. it also has some of the bands best written songs musically specifically in Russels riff writing and leadwork where i really think he started getting a firm grasp on his moody almost emo tinged melodies. i still think hunting for witches, 7:18, uniform, i still remember, kreuzberg, song for clay and even the prayer are some of the bands best songs and have all the best elements of the albums between them whilst still working in their own sonic world.

the more I listen to BP the less I have a favorite album...because i don't see their music as albums...I see them as songs because that is what they are

I mean, I like their music, so if they suck less than I think they do....I guess that makes me a casual enjoyer and not a fan. Which is pretty accurate.

The nostalgia factor is insane, I miss the days of low-ego, fun mizkif, just vibing with chat and friends, the early miz and maya moments and more. I would do anything to go back to when miz was like this.

I love Silent Alarm, but Intimacy and Four are both fascinating in their own way - Bloc Party were more than just post-punk revival. Great albums with soul, ideas and virtuosity. Nextwave Sessions and AWITC are also great.

Owl City was amazing Ocean Eyes and before. He was a niche artist then. He's had some good stuff since Ocean Eyes but it's more hit or miss. He certainly changed after he went mainstream. Like everything, popularity kills creativity. It becomes more about what will sell albums and get radio airplay (or Spotify streams in the 2020s). His song Fiji Water is about this very thing. I need to check out his non-Owl City stuff. Didn't even know that existed.

Rainbow veins is not about drugs. How I Became the Sea is about Adam growing as an artist, it mentions his first 3 albums in progression. Also, for the record, Adam has never actually claimed influence/inspiration from Give Up.

as a long time owl city fan i appreciate this video for how much it praises my favorite OC album, and even though i don't agree with everything (i personally think midsummer is an amazing album and adam's lyrics are lovingly hokey, not stupid derogatory), it is heartwarming to see it analyzed in a fairly in depth way. thanks.

Intimacy better

Weekend is BP doing mtv Emo a la dashboard confessional; their Emo album but only in the way that bp could do it so it’s political and frantic and paranoid and sad and (sometimes embarrassingly) emotional. It’s wicked. It’s ahead of its time tbh, but no one can see it. Look at the damn b sides. Holy cow. If “where is home” was released today? Shhhheeesh, with an added burial remix. Fuck me. Emo isn’t for everyone, but my Midwest ass adored it.

Silent alarm, wknd in the city and then intimacy. In that order, forever. They're all amazing and straight through listens. And then there's 4 and everything after which is just shit. But it's fine. Their first three albums are no worse than 9/10, each one. And that's all i listen to when i want that indie rock baby boy
