Aussie Adventure Rider
Australia

"G'day, I'm Kurt, an Aussie Adventure Rider with over 15 years of experience tackling Australia's rugged terrain. Before that, I was into trail riding-and still am! I was the founder and publisher of Australia's (maybe the world's) first ADV magazine. These days, I've stepped away from the magazine industry to focus on what I love most: riding. I'm also the founder of ADV FEST, an event dedicated to adventure riders right here in Australia.
Occasionally, I get to test ride the latest bikes, but let me be clear-I’m no ex-racer, just a passionate novice who's racked up over 300,000 km off-road. I'll share GPX files for some of my rides, though some, like those from the APC Rally, are exclusive to rally riders. So, if you're keen on off-road adventures, you're in the right place!"

17 inch rear,not 18 tube tires,not tubeless...... 😉👍🏻
Hay thanks for sharing your thoughts and ride on the 450 Himi, great review and no BS! Where do you feel the weight? High, low in the middle? Cheers Chris
Rear is 17" 140 80 17 tyre
Great review buddy
And it’s god a good fuel range
After this ride mate you might not like it w hen you get back on your 411 ,jimmy WA
Rode this, and the CF. Ordered the RE🤘🏾
Thanks for posting this- I rode the loop yesterday and it was really good. The Wombeyan Caves Road past the river is supposedly closed but is ok- it was bone dry; may be interesting if it gets wet. The Brayton Road through Swallow Tail Pass is also a an enjoyable section.
Sounds like a great event! Although..... be prepared. Winter in Dorrigo is FREEZING! (snow unlikely, but possible!)
Locals tell me 60 years in Dorrigo, never seen snow in Dorrigo! Hopefully we see you there.

Sounds good. I couldn't make the first one due to work commitments. I hope I can make the next one.
Looking forward to the next event, I couldn't make the first.
Had great time this year Just a my grip was the catering Meal size For the price we paid Was not worth it And to be told by the Chief to move on. Saying that our group were not the only ones in saying that about the Catering But everything else was great Looking forward to next year 👍
Thanks for the feedback, it was all round, I had pre warned the caterers simple 3 meats, colesaw and patato salad and vegetarian gluten free option. That's it, they went and created their own menu. They did not pay us to be there, nor did we make any money from the catering, we handed it over to make it seamless. Didn't workout. 2025 we will have a food truck with Pizzas, pay as you go and the caterer has listened. I told them LOTS of food. Not fancy ale carte.
Thanks for the Reply Come to think of it I did the diet form on the pre paid food form but Never did received my dietary meal All Good next year will be great 👍
Great video mate, keep them coming 👍
Bloody good ride Kurt, looking forward in doing this soon. Those views are absolutely stunning! Those blind corners gave me PTSD!!!
I bet
Mate I’d love to tag along in your rides I have a T7 and live in Sydney’s inner west
No worries, I ride mainly during the week.
Thanks, and I have subscribed. 1000 subs is close by for you.
Thanks for the sub!
Great video mate very well explained thanks for the gpx file . I'm in Sydney as well if your looking for a day ride sometime drop me a message always keen to ride cheers
I always carry a spare key, but I only carry full cans😂
haha, my cans last time split inside my bag. only carry full bottles
Thanks for putting the file up mate 👌🍻
No worries, enjoy. More coming through over next few weeks
A ride the Illawarra and highlands crew have ridden 100s of times. We call it Wombeyan/Swallows tail pass ride. What happened to the Tarlo River crossing footage?
It’s a top ride
I was you’re first comment
Hi
I live in the area as a young bloke many years ago. I definitely have to do this ride sometime... Thanks for the video, the scenery and the GPX mate.
no worries
Fantastic. Interesting that the roads were dry and on the video, they seemed not to bad but then you found them somewhat slippery in parts. Thank you for the GPX.
gravel
Great review, most of the other reviews focused on the pavement performance or on the harder off-road sections of tracks. You did a great job showing how the everyday back road riding would be on the cfmoto. Probably going to buy this in the spring here in the states. Was considering a used crf 300 rally which I really like but I’m a little aggressive for it in stock form. The amount of money I would spend to get the rally up to standard would easily buy the 450 mt/ibex and have a little left over.
Thanks! 👍
Do all but the duct tape on the helmet but have a small bit of chopping board for the stand. Can't believe how many only go with one key🤔👍
Great hacks! Thanks. With the can, I attached a piece of cord to mine. With it, I can lower the can to the ground and position it under the stand before I get off. I then wrap the cord around the bars. When I'm taking off, I can do the reverse, simply grab the cord and pull the can out from under the stand.
looks like a good machine
Nice one, good to see an example of what can go wrong, even with the experience. Follow up question about getting to know your bike. How are some good ways to do that on the dirt? On road there are plenty of riding drills, u turns, emergency stops, etc. What are some good drills to help get to know your bike off road? Aside from just more seat time in general.

Really appreciate the tips. New to adv riding and everyone says don't ever go solo. Although there is extra risk, the idea of exploring the bush by myself is what attracted me to it all. Tips like these will help me stay out of the worst of it Be awesome to hear any other tips you for new riders, most videos I find seem to be from the yanks or the british. Australia is a different beast, so always good to hear from those who have been in the belly of it.
see my latest video, more on riding solo. th-cam.com/video/B5pH-jHic6U/w-d-xo.html
@@aussieadvrider totally missed that one, cheers for the link
It's dos and don'ts, not do's and dont's.
I’m dyslexic, but thank you

Definitely some great tips! I've had many gopro mounts break....
Great video as always love your work I ride a ktm690 and my biggest fear is getting a flat I have fitted. HD tubes and always run good tyres I do take levers and tubes but TBH I wouldn’t have a clue how to fix a puncture with a tube, my other bike is a Triumph Tiger is tubeless and I just put a plug in easy, and I ride the Tiger more often on my own for that reason, I am seriously considering doing a tubliss conversion on the KTM690 or am I just stressing over doing.
Tubes for me personally work best. I have seen Tubeless tyres with tears in them and my mate has the Tubliss system on his Beta, constant issues with pressures. Touch wood, I haven't had a flat in over 10 years, i replace my Ultra Heavy Duty Tubes every 2 years and only use MotoZ on Rear and Pirelli on front, with my DRZ i use Dunlop 606's, same no flats
Great tips.
That was close Kurt!! It can happen to anyone for sure! How's that GoPro mount!! Never seen a breakage like that before at all!!
GPS downloads
See CFMOTO450 test ride description, it’s there
👍
What would happen if you wired a toggle switch into the fuse block for the ABS and just turned it off then you can turn it back on when you want it
not sure, i am not that experienced with electronics.
@@aussieadvrider The person who makes the switch to wire in to bikes to turn that off will be wealthy.
Would you be able to share the GPX file of your route..looks great
All ADV FEST registered get the GPX. 2025 ADV FEST will be online soon, once you register the GPX is sent.
👍
Good one Kurt! Cool to see some more footage as I left a tad early. Bring on next year - gunna be through the roof mate 😎👍
I was spewing that I only found out about it a week beforehand and was already booked in for a trip from home on the Southcoast to Yamba and the Gold coast that week. Drove home early Sunday and saw all the ADV bikes heading out on the highway.
Looked like a lot of fun, well done
Awesome video mate, can not wait for next years event!! It'll be bloody awesome!
Thank you!
They are tubed tyres on that model. Just saying
i have been told, they say tubeless on the walls.
@@aussieadvridernow you can get tubeless tyres and rims😂
Does anyone know if this 450mt engine is totally new or used in some other bikes?? References for reliability?
Its been used for 2 years on their road bikes.
USB and USC xD
Looked easy enough in that situation..I like these alot but the weight is a concern as I now struggle to pick up my CRF250 Rally in some situations..age related issues😂
Nice looking ride, just watched MCA's video on the event..looked good 👍
Thanks 👍
