Martello Castle in Lake Borgne is a renowned inshore fishing spot but, if you went there, you would find no castle, just a pile of bricks. This rubble is known as "the castle", and while you won't find a princess in need of rescue here, you will find that it can be quite the hot spot for speckled trout! But when should you fish it? What are the best conditions to look at? What did Martello Castle used to look like and why was it built there? How do you get there and what is one important reason you shouldn’t bother fishing it?
These questions and more are what you’ll discover in this guide. We’ll get started with the best conditions to fish it.

Lot of hating on bowfishing in the comments. Glad you reported fairly. The fact is we don’t know how many are getting shot but given the high barrier to entry (boat, bow, lights generator etc) it is unlikely the driving force. As someone who does both I will tell you if you’re DIY, you’ll have an easier time filling a cooler with some shrimp. I imagine the optics of seeing a redfish with an arrow through it just upsets people because TH-cam anglers turned redfish into a sacred cow. I would recommend we all focus on restoring the habitat instead of alienating other user groups that also care about the resource. It should also be mentioned that pogie boats are selectively harvesting breeding age fish.
I agree that they should lower it more. Growing up as a Cajun fishing in cocodrie our elders taught us to only keep what we needed to feed the family and always have respect for nature and others living off the land and water. Now everyone is greedy and only think about themselves. I now live in cocoa beach Florida and we can’t keep a single redfish here which is crazy compared to how I grew up in south Louisiana. But seeing this first hand makes me respect conservation now.
Shooting game fish isn't allowed except for redfish, why?
Good stuff. Thanks.
Over here in North Carolina they got to be 14 inches and we're only allowed fm4 fish per person
8 are plenty, how much fish are you really going to eat kids. 3 a week is good enough for me and the sugar trout in the winter keep the fridge full
Love this. Was looking for a different presentation for trout around deepwater docks and I think this is it. I think I’m gonna try a jig head as the bottom weight so there’s two presentations down there.
Coastal erosion mixed with over fishing. Just hope they changed the limits quick enough.
Mr. Mutt Perez owned the Castle till it was devastated by Hurricane Katrina… Long ago I was told that Joe Meraux traded the Castle & Oyster Lease land to Mr. Perez for a camp off of West End Point by Lake Pontchartrain… I believe the Perez family still owns the property today…
Btw… New Subscriber & Great Video 🏴☠️
Yeah, it's crazy to me that people spend too much time at 1 or 2 spots. I like to power fish.I mean, i've fished 3 and 4 hours , and finally found them by moving around constantly
Could you not try to talk like a robot doing a commercial. Just try to talk normal, thanks
Been fishing there since I was a kid in the late 70s and people will fish on top of u , great video
I wish they would put a slot on them up here in NC and SC. 13”-20” 8-10 fish limit. Anything over 20 must go back
Would you suggest this rig near jetties with live or cut baits like croaker and mullets or live minnows
Just curious, what's the reason for the gloves?
Well, I didn't wear mine yesterday and got sunburned hands. Actually fished that area yesterday, didn't do bad.😊

LOVE THIS VIDEO DEVIN!!! THE MARTELLO CASTLE HAS BEEN A SPOT FOR US SINCE THE 70'S AND ITS SAD TO SEE IT NOW... THANKS FOR THE UPDATE SIR...
That dolphin ain't a porpoise!!!!! Man that drives me nuts! Great video Capt.
This channel is textbook quality over quantity.
Good Chance The Picture's Could've Been Taken By A Member Of The Perez Family. A Good Friend Of Mine Ralph "Guzzie" Perez's Family Owned It For Many Years, I'm Guessing Before The 70's-60's 🤔 Anyways Great Video/Information As Always, Will Be Fishing There Soon 🎣 👍😎
Why you talking different on this channel compared to your other one?
At least it’s not 1 red like it is here in North Carolina
Hehe.....either he's leaving out some important information. Or he's not as good as he proclaims to be. Some of the info he's providing is correct though. But there are at least three crucial variables that he isn't listing. And yes, i have over 30 years of experience catching grey trout, speckies, and other types of species in the Chesapeake bay and the Atlantic ocean.
I appreciate all the info . I have learned a ton
Kenner Beach
Bet you catch allot of three headed fish under those high output power lines!
I use the swivel regardless. But I’m gonna have to try this heavy rig out around the jetties
is there a good app to download so that on any given day I can look at water clarity before heading out?
The name of this rig should be the Bubba Shot
I cut my teeth on catching fine black drum at those PowerLines and still fish them, especially this time of year-have NOT used Side-Scan to "cheat" prefer to start at Piling #54(anyone ole enough to remember,Car 54 where are You)??? Nice video, easy fishing out there and another frequent You-Tuber outed those pilings about a year ago and I kidded him bout sending folks to one of my favorite local fishing holes-rarely,if ever, see many boaters out there and I live on NShore and when the Lake gets not only calm enough but clean enough, gotta lotta reds out there and typically one can catch a limit at possibly ONE set of pilings.Years ago, texted my wife after a child's play of nabbing quick limit of reds, caught three at ONE set of pilings and red #6 was a deformed fella, missing his entire bottom jaw-might still have a pic of him AND he was quite healthy, possibly pinning his prey to bottom and gobbling em up!!
17:00 I just want to reiterate, you’re only as good as accurate as the information given to you we see what the government likes to do. It’s playing out in our faces every day politically did you know the Texas wildlife and fisheries were recently Weaponized they went after Ted Nugent they went to one of his ranches took test said that they had chronic wasting disease killed all of his animals and then called him back and told him oops your animals weren’t sick now if that’s not Weaponized mean I don’t know what would be so the reason I say that is remember the information you’re reading comes from one of the same governmental agencies. It’s not being crazy. It’s being cautious.
luck when it comes to this if you really believe in it, then what we should do is a temporary closing of the season two years stop red fishing for two years in the state of Louisiana. You don’t have to have a Harvard degree to figure that a two-year hiatus would cheer the problem, it could put it right back on track with the stocks that are left by 2027 they would it be an abundance of redfish when left alone nature has a way of fixing itself if there really is a problem that’s how you fix it I can tell you prior to the BP oil spill I could fish anywhere from quarantine bay all the way north to Lake born and I never had an issue with catching redfish. I only seen a drop in the catch after that disaster, and then it was made increasingly worth like you said by the freshening, not just the flood of 2016 up here on the North Shore, but the bigger damage was done I believe my opinion from the opening of the spillway. I think we pretty much agree. I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. I’ve been critical of you in the past, but when you’re right, you’re right, I would still like to know how many charters are in our state.
3:41 yeah, because the government always tells us the truth you have to take their stock assessment with that of a grain of rice. That’s talk about when they did their stock assessment they did it in the middle of the Mississippi being poured into Lake Pontchartrain by way of the spillway all this excess of freshwater pushed out down all the way down through the waterways all the way south even out into quarantine bay I truly believe that was one of the biggest reasons for that stock assessment not to mention they said all of that was in the last decade. Well, let’s see. We also had the BP oil spill and that pretty much killed our fishery, I’m gonna say those are very too strong points to why there a stock assessment was supposedly so low.
He definitely has a different presentation style.
The crew dredging in lake p did a great job marking the dredge pipes while working on the kayak waterway.
Awesome video and solid information. I’ve been fishing the transmission lines out of peavine since I was a kid! Definitely an overlooked area. I made a fishing video with my kids earlier this summer from that area using those same tactics. Just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing more content! Keep up the good work man 👍
Good info, have a buddy who knocked his motor off hitting a dredge pipe. Definitely don’t want to be running at dark either dredges known in area. Support Our Veterans!

That's right down the road from my house i might have to give it a try
Best b-roll in the game
A friend and I put white poles out like this to mark the channel to our dock.We spray painted the top six inches of them all either red or green, so you would know they marked a channel.
“This dude again, lol”? If you’re referring to Captain Devin, I’d say this is one ‘dude’ who offers the kind of information that even experienced anglers may not realize don’t know. This is a great video, full of information that people either don’t realize or don’t think about - many thanks!
This is good , but finding them is the hard part . For me .
