Ways I Use Cheat Codes; Patterns and timing
มุมมอง 10K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I love running acoustic sounds into Cheat Codes and deconstruct the material. In this video I show a quick way to generate patterns that are synced in length to clock, while still being nice and loose as defined by my own pad presses. Off camera, I'm synced to Ableton via link. This is super nice for capturing sounds - generating new material - and playing along with the source sound. Cheat Cod...

I love your music, I'm hoping to try to learn from this and make similar-ish music. It's absolutely beautiful.
Hi :) Sounds wonderful. How you connect/ sync guitar to Norns? Are you slicing with cheat chodes as guitar playing at same time?
gorgeous
Lovely work on this Hans !
Im just starting to explore Cheat Codes 2 and figure out how to use it. This was useful, thanks!
Hey man, would you be interested in doing lessons? I’d really like to learn from you, and I can pay for your time.
Where did you learn to play the grid and norns? I have no idea what’s going on but i love the sounds i’m hearing from this combo. Any suggestions on where I could learn these instruments?
best advice would be to just experiment with it. it’s not difficult and lots of fun
I read this title with sort of nostalgia... Because it was one of the phrases my best friend/brother and me said sometimes...He is not here anymore :(
woah... THIS is AMAZING!... amazing amazing result! thank you so much for sharing!
super lovely!! thank you so much for this!🖤
Thank you !!
wow... this is so beautiful. I found this video today. I can't believe how good it is!
Love this. Just learning Cheat Codes and seeing the subtle use here really helps. I can't help thinking that a lot of activity around Norns happened two years ago, looking at Lines. That seems to be when a lot of the most popular scripts were made. Is the community around it diminishing? Are you still using it?
sorry for the late reply here. absolutely! It’s still my main instrument i’d say. And the community is very much active. there are developments in many areas and the number of scripts and possible user functions on norns keeps growing
Thanks for this demonstraties. Now I understand how it works.
Love your work 🌊🌊🌊
I keep returning to this, it's just such a wonderful listen.
Thanks a lot 🥰
love this peek into your process. Thanks for this. I just got a new raspberry pi for my norns shield, and I’m excited to return to Cheat Codes after a few months away!
This reminds me so much of the Freelance Whales and I’m obsessed
Thanks for this
glorious! a bit late to the party, but thank you :3
Keep coming back to this. Beautiful stuff!
thanks mate :)
so cool!
wow
Lovely
how did you plug in the signal from the guitalele to the Monome? pretty cool piece
i have a microphone (zoom recorder) connected to norns so everything goes into that 👍🏻
Love this! Also great that you follow Rodrigo!
beautiful. Cheat Codes had struck me as just an overly-complicated script whose functionality wasn't too different from mlr's, but this video makes me want to take the time to learn it. Thank you for that!
thank you, glad to hear. highly recommend exploring cc ☺️
stunning! I just downloaded the cheat code docs pdf, and I'm excited to learn about it and give it a try
just ordered a b-stock grid the other day, and this video has made me really excited to try cheat codes with my norns shield once the grid arrives!
The grid+norns combo is awesome. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of fun!
Really nice, what was your sound source?
Thanks! Made with samples loaded to norns - can’t remember what the source was but usually I load up bits from other recording sessions and re-use material
Sounds like Jan Jelinek and Masayoshi Fujita - Stripped to RM
Awesome mood ❤️
Inspiring piece and visuals
wwow, what is that wooden box?
that’s the cardboard box monome grid came in 😊 perfect little percussive instrument
cool
so dope ❤️
dam im actually thinking now the grid is the one manipulating all the sound tell me if im wrong
The grid and norns work together, but it’s norns that manipulate sounds and run audio in/out. Norns run ‘scripts’/apps that uses the grid in different ways. In this video I’m running the cheat codes script on norns and I’m using the grid to run the functions of the script. The grid itself doesn’t produce sound and needs to be connected to something else (norns, pc/mac)
Thanks for the master class ! (Since last week i have a grid, ooooooooh yes !)
This is beautiful!
👍🏼
This is beautiful
Wonderful
Beautiful! I've been trying to understand what Norns is exactly for some time but I'm still a little confused. Do you have suggestions regarding where I can learn about it? The Monome website is still a little opaque to me...
Very simplified norns is a little ‘computer’ with inputs and outputs, usb ports etc. what makes it so powerful is the ability to use it in different ways based on scripts (coded ‘applications’). There are loads of different scripts available and the collection is growing every week. Some scripts can make sounds (norns is a synth). Other scripts ‘sample’ incoming sounds and manipulate them (norns is a looper, sampler). Other scripts again are sequenzers and you can hook up midi etc to connect to other gear. I think a good way to start understanding Norns is to look closer at a couple of scripts. ‘Cranes’ is one of my favorites. It’s a looper script where you take incoming sound into Norns, capture/record it, and play it back as well as manipulate it. Have a look at this video: m.th-cam.com/video/pVVKC3KnRLg/w-d-xo.html
@@HansMarius1984 Thanks for this great answer! I've been roaming the internet to find some info since I watched your video and I am finding all of this very, very enticing. Congrats again on that great song!
Be sure to check out the lines forum llllllll.co. Fon’t be afraid to ask questions over there, lots of friendly and helpful people
It is truly wonderful... Very soothing. I might get the Norns Shield, and it would be even better with that grid... but my wallet... 🥲
Thanks! start off with a Shield. You can do a lot with that alone! The grid is awesome and you wont regret buying one, but you can use the shield alone to begin with
@@HansMarius1984 I'm afraid that's too late... I found a 64 used grid and couldn't help myself. They are both on their way !
Haha, great! You’ll love ‘em
Thanks for the explanation. I gather this also works on a 64? 🤘
With the recent update of CC, 64 grid should work. You just select your grid type in the params
Love! How did you record the music box?
I recorded the sounds with a zoom recorder + Lom Usi Pro microphone
nice.
Thank u so much for showing this to us!! Ur sounds give me inspiration make some art 💗
that makes me so happy, thank you 😊
this is beautiful!
Very cool timbres!
thank you so much! this is a rather intimidating script but this vid is definitely getting me headed in the right direction. great great stuff
Glad to hear! Keep digging, CC is great
Super nice piece, interesting build up of texture, really inspiring dude, thanks 🙏
