this clutch has got me beat. 🤷😤🤦
I've never had this many problems with a hydraulic clutch system. I can't figure out why my pedal is so close to the floor before it engages and disengages. It has a new clutch in it with a new clutch fork and new hydraulic system. I had discussed with the manufacturer of these parts when I got them on the phone about this and they thought maybe the flywheel has been resurfaced to its maximum and it's not thick enough. However that doesn't explain why I needed to replace that rod with something an inch and 5/8 longer. I really could use some advice on this one.

Starting to think it was a mistake getting this truck. I'm not in a position to build something for show or racing. I'm just trying to build a daily driver that's cheap on gas that can haul a trailer. I would have never thought that I was going to find an S10 that I couldn't get parts for. That's kind of the whole point about s10s is that all of the parts interchange. All except for this one.

Well I don't know why I can't get answers to my questions but whatever. According to Google's AI the pedal should be one and a half to 2 inches off the floor before engaging / disengaging. That just doesn't seem right to me. Upon further research I am left to believe that the pressure plate is worn out. I should have just assumed from the very start that the guy lied about absolutely everything and the entire hydraulic system clutch and all was all bad. Now I'm debating on taking it all apart again and replacing the pressure plate. I have one but it wasn't intended for this vehicle but it looks to me like it will fit as you saw in one of my videos. It sits higher in profile than the one that is in here but I seem to be having a problem with getting the pedal to come up higher even with an extended push rod in the slave cylinder so it might make the difference if I put the higher profile pressure plate out of this other vehicle in it. I really don't want to take this apart again 😖

If you possess one of these shift blocks you see on top of my transmission and would like to sell it I would be interested in buying it if it's the proper fit. I also have a company that does 3D printing and if I can find the blueprint specs on parts they can make them

I've called every salvage yard within 100 mi of me and only one had an S10 but it was a 4-cylinder. I wasted $30 on gas to go over there and confirm if this part would fit or not and it did not. The only advice I've been given is to look up something else online but I've looked at everything. It's very specific to the 4.3 V6. AI on Google swears that it will interchange with different years but it still has to be the same engine size. If anyone knows where one is get it and ship it to me or give me a link to it.

If you go on rockauto you can see pictures of the master and the slave cylinders as long as the bolt pattern of the master or slave cylinder is close or the same it should work but rod lengths maybe different but they may swap form one cylinder to the other I do not know this for sure... And it seems they do not sell the slave cylinder rod separately they all have a new rod when you order the slave cylinder.... It was very stupid of GM to change from all metal parts to plastic... Unfortunately the temperatures dropped out into the single digits and my budget isn't even going to allow for that even though it's cheap so it's going to sit for a few weeks. Even then I've still got to get several other parts so I don't know when it's going to get back on the road. That shift block is going to have to be ordered apparently unless I can budget in a lot of gas money and travel time for salvage yards. My best bet for success is an hour and a half away from me at a Pick-n-Pull

The fork I can get at the parts store for about 30 bucks but the shift tower I can't get except for online for 60 to $80 or I have to find it in a salvage yard. I'm talking about the plastic block that the shifter is mounted to on top of the trans. When I bought the truck and the guy drove off the thing came apart when I was about to get on the highway and head home. Found out after the fact that he JB welded it together and of course it didn't hold. You'll see me pointing that out in some of the videos

And a brand new 354 bolt main with a brand new carburetor and everything else machined and all. Everything on here short of the wiring harness and that bulletproof transmission is pretty much new short of the body. It's all cosmetic. Why would I go out and buy a new truck that doesn't need anything fixed and go into debt on this modern trash that cost $100,000 and needs a $30,000 drivetrain within 6 months? I've always said imagine if I put the amount of money somebody paid for this modern trash into something old school. I would have a truck that they would trade two of those new trucks for.

When I got the truck the guy had already JB welded it but of course it didn't hold. I went back over it and did the same thing in layers but as soon as I tightened it down on the trans it cracked again. Thought about putting a hose clamp on the center Tower and then running a piece of wire off the four corners around the screws. Not sure that's going to hold very well though.

Well I would have been fine with it if they would have been up front about that but they weren't. They stated that an alignment even on this vehicle was only going to be $70. That's the only reason I went over there. I told them up front this wasn't older vehicle and they said no problem and still quoted me the original $70 price. It wasn't until he was in the middle of doing it that he decided to change that and started tacking on $90 an hour on top of the original quote. It was not discussed with me. Regardless it doesn't mean it's okay to then do something vindictively to the customer's vehicle.

You'd be better off having a nice level place to work on with a set bubble gauges and toe plates and doing the alignment yourself... I do all my own alignments for all My cars and my truck.. For the reasons you stated no one wants to do the work or even knows how to do it right!... 6 4x8 1/2 plywood sheets is the way to go till you get a floor and a garage going... I still don't have a floor in my portable 22x40 garage used plywood right on dirt.. Even poured a monolithic pad for my low lift maxx Jaxx two post lift but I can do it all in there engines, transmissions..wheel alignments, tire changes all of it.... I even turned one of my 12x20 protable garages into a paint booth with two HVAC blowers to extract the fumes... Where there is a will there's a way!.. Good luck man trust no one today!

Problem is I'm on a fixed income and I can't even afford a sheet of plywood for the most part. That destroyed my entire budget for the month but it had to be done. I would have been in the negative I would have been charged the full amount. Wouldn't even have enough to survive the month. Besides that the temperature is dropped out and it looks like it's going to stay that way for a while. It's so cold out here you'll get frostbite within about 5 minutes. Way too cold for me to go outside and try doing this stuff right now. I should have done it a long time ago but every time I try to get ahead something else knocks me back down and I just don't have the financial means to pull myself back up sometimes and it takes a long time to get there. That's why I'm trying to build this shop out of pallets and I've got a long ways to go because I can't even get some of the most basic materials because I'm so far out in the middle of nowhere and I can't afford to go get anything in this big truck. That's why I was hoping to get the S10 done so I can change that a bit but looks like it's going to be a little while before I can get back to it

To bleed the slave cylinder, you have to keep it at a 45 degree angle. Chats from the Chiltons manual. Took me forever to figure out why it wouldn’t properly work after replacing everything.

I’m m just saying, I thought it was the clutch master cylinder. Replaced that and the line to the slave. It worked but then randomly stopped. Replaced the slave. Bled, and same thing. I then opened the old Chiltons book and the slave cylinder bleeding procedure is different- like I was saying- it has to be held at a 45 degree angle ( I forget which way) and problem solved. I’m just throwing that out there. I couldn’t understand why the clutch hydraulics was giving me so much trouble. It was the bleeding procedure I wasn’t doing right. On an 87 s-10 btw

Found a video on TH-cam called “ how to clutch slave cylinder s10” it shows how you have to have the slave unbolted and at an angle when bleeding.

Having pulled a motor on a 97 blazer, one of those missing bolts are impossible to remove and put back in without removing the engine and transmission from the truck. You can see it, you might be able to touch it, you can’t get a wrench on it. So most all of those rigs go back together without at least one of those bolts. If anyone plans to pull the motor, just pull both the engine and transmission at the same time. It’s easier.

That's the only way I'll do it anymore. I refuse to crawl underneath a car and try to pull a transmission from the bottom again.

Most of my frustration is because of the conditions that I have to work in and around. From the elements to the jagged rocks and makeshift floors and no storage or place to put anything makes this a lot harder than it normally should and my attention is focused only because it's causing me to stumble. What should be done in a day or two takes twice as long. Is also very frustrating when these cheap tools keep failing. Temps also supposed to drop down in the teens for over a week. I've got two days to get this done before it's so cold it's unbearable

You have to use the rollpin that comes with the clutch master. I tried using a cotter pin and it worked for a long time until the hose popped out, haha. The trick to bleeding it is moving the clutch master below the transmission and pumping the air bubbles up.

Sorry for the rant but I'm pretty much thinking out loud. Sorry for not setting up cameras and recording the entire swap but I don't have the proper cameras and the phone will time out if I don't touch it now and then. It would take way too long to do the simplest thing if I had to keep setting my phone up to record. Guess I need to get a GoPro or somebody on a camera. I don't see that happening either way anytime soon. Check the description for the only differences I found in the swap
