I love your video and think it’s very helpful for people who want to move here. I do disagree about how long winter lasts. I would definitely say it’s more like November to March. But hey, we all have different opinions!

I’m from Klamath Falls, OR and I’m now retired from the Army. Since I joined in 1983, a LOT of things have changed and shifted since I left and it’s very sad. Bend has been getting a large influx of liberals whose cost of living in large cities along I-5 have become too high for their budgets. The Oregon High Desert is no joke and a big difference to the mild winters on the other side of the Cascades (west side). There’s nearly zero humidity on the desert which is around 4000 feet in elevation so bring lots of lotion for newcomers, you’ll need it. Usually the liberals will call it quits after or during their first winter here, it’s not fun when everything is frozen and it takes 20 minutes just to clear your windows and get the car warmed up. And don’t think your cute “all wheel drive” SUV can handle driving into forests, Fremont forest is nasty and when you get stuck (and you will) be sure to have a 3 day emergency bag in your car and please don’t be wearing sweat clothes and flip flops when they finally find you a couple days later. And no, cell phones don’t work inside the forests, that’s why we own CB or multi-band radios with a good antenna. Make sure you keep Casey Ladelle’s tow service phone number on speed dial because you’ll be needing his services, you can find his videos on YT to give you an idea of how hilarious the unprepared can be. If you’re accustomed to prompt Amazon or eBay deliveries, hang that up, it’ll take a couple more days at least to get things, a lot longer during heavy snow storms. Addition; after re-reading my post I think many might take some offense to the scenarios I described. Oregon has various environmental conditions that attract many people and they rarely discuss how life is “over the mountains” on the High Desert so when the time comes to look for a new town to live in where the cost of living is lower yet still within a couple hours drive of their former city, they pack up and take the plunge. So when a more soft Oregonian sees most people on the High Desert driving larger 4x4 trucks, there’s a good reason why they own those but it won’t make sense until the first winter. Most of us own 2 different sets of tires specifically for driving in ice, snow and summer conditions. Growing up in Klamath County my dad had a Jeep 4x4 truck then a Honda civic station wagon so we could save money on gas. I constantly heard stories about friends getting into car accidents when someone didn’t have any experience driving on icy roads or during blizzard like conditions (which didn’t happen often) so it’s my hope that people take things serious because 911 won’t always be able to get to you in time due to road conditions and distance so pre-planning and preparation is critical. And yes, most of us own a firearm and we always take one when we venture into the woods because Oregon has a lot wildlife that can be unpredictable in situations. And if you move to a small town outside of Bend and lack any form of preparation for a strong winter, the locals will express their concerns in some way because they know they may be called to help you someday because it’s usually a life or death situation and they will help when needed but it also puts them at risk. Criminal activity is extremely low on the High Desert due to many factors and that’s something that attracts people to move here. I can say that the summers are like heaven most of the time and the dry air makes cold weather more to.enable compared to States like Kentucky and Illinois where the humidity is pretty high year round. As a teen I enjoyed the snow storms, especially at night. I used to take our German shepherd for a short walk at night and watching the snow fall while illuminated by the street lights was very calming and tranquil to me, along with the snow, things were very quiet. If you plan to retire in our area, you can’t go wrong. All the medical services you’re accustomed to is available in Bend or K-Falls and the demographic of the population in our area is good, honorable hardworking people. Hope this gets someone’s attention on good and bad conditions so you don’t get hurt or stranded. If you have problems with arthritis or respiratory issues, the climate is very helpful. I wish all of you my best and please enjoy life as much as you’re able, changing your environment also does great things emotionally because it gives you a fresh start.

Bend sucks. It’s expensive as hell. Has the infrastructure for a town of 10,000 people, with 100,000 people trying to use it. Full of “ski bums” who work at the local venture capital firms. Give me a break.

We moved here about 8 years ago as well... from the Bay area where people drive like maniacs. Generally I love this beautiful place and the people here are wonderful, kind and welcoming. I find that the worst are are some of the giant trucks that bully their way around on the narrow roads certainly not all of them of course, but a few. Also those bike lanes that cross over the roads in the middle of the streets are dangerous. I have no idea who thought that up. Then there is the poor lighting at night. I hope that eventually, this will change. Glad we have lyft and uber.

A massive increase in relative inventory is just another indicator of a huge market correction which would be appropriate and inevitable, pushing prices down out of the current crazy-land territory we reside in now in Central Oregon Prices have been stupid high since covid. Normal people can't even think about buying real estate presently and personally I'm glad to see the current dynamics happening finally, thank goodness.

As a person who is born and raised in Bend, please stop moving to our town.

Bend suffers from jobs and careers that sustain such market values. I feel like so many states at this point are being "propped up" by capital equity flight from CA home sales and older folks selling and moving out of CA.

Im sure prices are still higher then pre pandemic.

I always planned on retiring to central oregon (lived on west side of oregon my whole life) however my mom moved there and in her older years insurance became an issue. Clinics will not take straight Medicare and the advantage plans are becoming difficult at bend hospitals due to advantage denials of skilled nursing . I am healthy but for an aging adult it’s a scary place.

Getting a death certicate can be hard, especially if she deceased alone in her home and had not been seen by her regular doctor/practitioner. I having gone through this with my mother in California and I had to go through probate just to find out that I was the trustee (she had not bothered to let me or any family members know. Being a medical certifier myself (nurse practitioner), I was reached by a hospital nursing supervisor to sign a death certificate well after the due date, because I had gone off service by the time the patient passed and was requested by the funeral home to complete it. Good luck in the rest of your probate journey.

There are many extremely angry right-wingers in Deschutes County. Bend is progressive, great, itself. But, the surrounding area is MAGA.

I think it’s wishful thinking to suggest interest rates will drop this year. Consider this, if inflation does get to 2% this summer, why would the fed want to suddenly decrease rates in response to that? In that scenario they risk inflation coming right back up. My guess is Jermone Powell will want to see inflation stay at 2% for quite some time and even then will likely keep rates steady rather than risk a reversal on inflation.

Absolutely going up. 710k price is based off December 2023 and January 2024 contracts. If DOM almost was cut in half in a month guess what...up up up.

You also can’t purchase snow rated tires after October either. I use Hakkapelita non-studded tires w/AWD. I found out the hard way after having a flat on I-5 in March and could not find replacements a couple of years ago.
