Briz 31 - Brisbane's Local TV - Part 1
While channel surfing late one night in Brisbane, you probably stumbled across a TV station that seemed a bit "different"... and that's if you got a clear signal.
This TV station was Briz 31. Existing in various different forms from 1992 until 2019, Briz 31 was Brisbane's public-access television station, providing a platform for Brisbane's local community and independent producers.
Released for the 30th anniversary of when Briz 31 began full-time broadcasts in 1994, this video is the first of a two-part series outlining Brisbane's community television station (and the obvious inspiration behind this TH-cam channel's name).
Special thanks to Mark Ciobo for his help with this video.

Cribb Island - Brisbane's Lost Suburb
มุมมอง 7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Cribb Island, or "Cribbie" as it was affectionately known, was a coastal suburb north of Brisbane that overlooked Moreton Bay. During the roaring 1920s, Cribb Island was a thriving beach destination for Brisbane locals. In the 1960s, the suburb was an early stomping ground for one of the world's most successful musical artists. On 5th June 1980, it was closed down, controversially cleared out a...
The Twin Pine - Gympie's Big Pineapple
มุมมอง 3.7K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
There was once a time when Queensland had TWO Big Pineapples - both were built at the same time (depending on who you talk to), and both stood at about the same height (also depending on who you talk to). One in the Sunshine Coast, and one in the town of Gympie. Often overshadowed by its Sunshine Coast counterpart and meeting a sad demise in the 2000s, we felt it was finally time that the story...

It sounds like something from out of a fever dream, but Brisbane's Myer Centre once had a roller-coaster and an indoor amusement park within its top two floors! The 'Dragon Coaster' was a popular attraction at the Myer Centre, and is still fondly remembered in Brisbane today. In this video we take a look back at Top's Amusement Centre, and whatever happened to its iconic dragon. 0:00 - Introduc...

Wow good video, covered it. I still find it funny that we had better public transport with the trams 50 years ago, I was told growing up it's because we don't have enough people, then I visited switzerland. Amazing public transport in tiny towns and their roads are perfect for driving. I suspect their roads are in such good condition because they don't have to cope with the volume of car traffic, because not every trip is made by car. So, less money needs to be invested in maintaining them. Pity you didn't do the cycle lanes. I finished a uni degree before the 20 metres to connect the centenary one to Jindalee was finished - council told me they had their 2 best people working on it at the time. Find riding once that was finished, way quicker and more reliable than the bus to the city & don't have to wait around for hours at night. E bikes are game changing - Brisbane is now flat.

If only we hadn’t foolishly scrapped the second largest light rail network in the southern hemisphere which today would still rank No. 3 in the world after St Petersburg and still No 1 Melbourne.

I liked the music show they ran on Saturday nights circa 2002. It was sort of like Pop Up Video, where they would run slightly older music videos and have a bit of trivia about the artist. This was good if you were into older music, because this was well pre-youtube, and your only other options were top 40 slop like Video Hits and Rage - I know Rage makes time to play oldies these days, but at that time they didn't.

COOL mate! - Awesome memories of the station, and shows. It always reminded me (A LOT) of my Qld College of Art days, and some of the whacky productions we made! I remember seeing the first amateur radio guys playing with the frequency, before it eventually evolved into Briz 31. I actually have some tapes within arms reach of my office desk here, with some of the shows I was in ('Car Seen' was one of them), and I remember how nice it was of the producers of that, bringing a copy over to my place. I also sat in the audience at west end for the taping of, what I'm glad you mentioned 'Tamara tonight'; one of my ex girlfriends and I were big fans - 'Tamaras' 'alter-ego' (Rod) and I, had many phone conversations back in the day...Although I'm straight; it was very interesting to hear all of the things he told me about - I actually ended up doing his website for some time: I still laugh at getting a cheque in the mail from his business 'Dial a drag queen productions', then the embarrassment of having to BANK it! LOL

Part of the problem is the train frequencies are just trash outside Peak hours, trains should be running every 15min like they do in Sydney. Another Problem is Brissy doesnt have enough express tracks for faster trains like Sydney & Melbourne do, and the tracks that are there are slow and winding where Perth & Adelaide have straight and direct alignments allowing faster speeds, so there needs to be an effort to build more fast express tracks once Cross River Rail is done. And lastly the Bus Network needs to be reworked so that bus routes feed trains rather than everything try and run into the City. The Trouts Road NWTC Reservation should be a quad track railway with 160kmh all the way fron Petrie to Alderley then directly into the Cross River Rail Tunnel.
