Great video. Growing up in the 50s, it was all about the baby dolls. Also, I loved the candles in the window and the bubblers on the tree.

Incredibly flattering clothes from the 50’s, bright, vibrant and with just a touch of mystery. A fabulous era.

My first Christmas was in 1950, and I was an infant. I have old B&W family photographs of the tree, of Mama and me in the front room of our ranch house. Of course, I have no memory of that one. A lot more relatives were alive then, and gave me, the newborn, lots of huge stuffed animals and other wonderful gifts which I enjoyed throughout my early childhood. I recall the bubble lights. They were on our trees in the 50s. The bowls were shaped better than modern bubble lights, so they stayed upright on the tree branches. Those were the days.

Wonderful Dialog & info!!...but please don't repeat pics ..I know it will be harder to make videos...but so uninteresting to watch same thing over & over...& I personally wouldn't include any Lookalike modern pics...they lack the Charm & Dignity of the 1950s Ladies & aren't interesting particularly at all. 💕💅🏻

I really enjoyed this video. As a mom, I agree that the 1950s parenting was better than now. There were boundaries. They weren't negotiable. My parents were a product of the generation who raised their children. It was different. More structured then now.

We had an aluminum tree in early 60’s. Then my parents got flocked trees until the early 70’s. The flocked trees were okay but just boring with balls and no lights. My parents finally got a fake green tree and we had colored lights, garland and new decorations. My mom and other relatives made jello molds for holidays. They had fruit in but never vegetables. My mom would use a can of fruit cocktail in the jello. One decoration I saw on a great aunts tree were bubble lights. I had never seen them before or since. I went to the NOMA company and bought a couple sets. I put them on my fireplace mantel. They are so pretty! I think two of the lights stopped bubbling. I will get more this year. A funny story was one Christmas Eve in the 70’s my parents had me play Santa. My sisters were much younger than I. My mom had put the presents in the trunk of the car. My sisters were always snooping. We had a brutal cold spell that year. We had two cars them. I brought the presents in while my family was at Christmas Eve church. My youngest sister got a Chatty Cathy doll. She was very cold. When my parents came home my sister started playing with the doll. She pulled the string but the doll hadn’t thawed yet. Instead of saying a word it was drawn out. My sister looked at the doll kind of weird. The doll thawed and her speech got faster. 😊

I just got an original edition of Betty Crocker recipe book from 1950 and there are tips on everything you mentioned in this video! “Greet your husband gayly at the door” and my favorite “make sure to observe interesting or funny things throughout your day so you can converse with your husband about them over dinner” and there is a drawing of a housewife pointing to a cat stuck in a tree laughing hysterically 😂

Sometimes, I think it would be better to go back to the family unit. Dad goes to work, and Mom manages the home. It seemed like people were happier. I know my Mom was at home and managed everything. My Dad did not tell her how to run it. It worked like clock work. Children were well taught by both parents. The children today are unbelievable at home and in public. But, I have to say it is up to the parents to train their children the correct way.

I remember the lists...those darn lists drove us crazy...now i wish i had learned what they were really teaching ..i remember the last thing you wanted was to be yelled at by a neighbor...it always meant another yelling from your parents...the last thing my mother always did before my father came in frome work was to put on lipstick & Jean Nate'

2:17 ...best and most important advice - organize and plan for storage FROM THE BEGINNING. No one taught me this, and I bounced through homes as a child, so I never witnessed it. I learned this the hard way and am recovering from over a decade of disorganization and confusion. Proudly self taught and eager to save anyone from what I put myself and my family through.

If you read a swedish Household book for housewife - you would laugh. My mother was housekeeper in first year of the fiftees and later half housewife. It inhered all her Brooks But also bought more myself. It seems to differe in same aspekts But how much clearing g it was, every week take out carpet and dust them. Scrubbng floor many times in a week. Very little about looks and appeatence. Maybe that is more an amerikan thing. About kids more about upbringing and how to take care of them if they got sick. Interesting to see and hear about the difference.

Cute video - I loved it ! : ) My favorite color to this day is Light Pink or Dusty Rose ''but'' I don't think I could 'put that' on my husband [ie] having Pink appliances etc ! [cute/sweet/light/calm but cheery lol] I live this way [85% of it] & agree with all of it 'except' I don't change my clothes that many times per day ! : ) I have subbed : ) I'm more of an introvert but def. help bake, donate etc whenever asked & thoroughly enjoy baking for neighbors. I discovered Ebony Magazine here in Brazil in 1987 when I started working at an Airline at Congonhas airport in the city of São Paulo SP here in Brazil and in the first days of work I went to visit the airport bookstore whose name was La Selva and in the magazine section there were some copies of Revista Ebony and when I read the magazine I almost had an emotional crisis because here in Brazil, although it has a population of 220 million people, 56 percent are black people but the media only has magazines, newspapers, television for white people.

1950 ‘s housewives had well dusted furniture clean windows clean curtains cooking well set tables desserts and flower beds and of course dishes laundry floors when the housewife started working out side the home these areas got forgotten no time left or energy first the windows flower beds dusting dessert setting the table cleaning floors cooking laundry probably in that order
