Where is oil dipstick for the triump adventurer 1998
Whats the factory setting for the idle screws?
What Kw size was the motor?
This video is pure gold, thanks very much for sharing your knowledge, subscribed.
I have the same year bike a 2001, it pulls fine in 1st second and third gear but 4th & 5th it’s a bit sluggish, could it be that it needs a carb clean?
Very informative video , thank you very much
Any ideas on how to get the last 2 screws out that hold in the locking plate? Mine won't budge and are rounding out the heads.
Hello, is the cbf600 carburetor 25kw the same as the cbf600-50kw
Man, i spent so much time trying to find someone that show this bike to the world, I am a beginner so looking for an oil change video but this helps a lot. thank you for making this content
hey i got everything re enstalled and i fucked up on the vaccumm lines somewhere. send help for the love of jesus
Good morning, dear Sir, I watched your very good videos carefully, because I have an identical Hornet which runs on 3 cylinders... This is the 1st cylinder, which despite the spark from the spark plug, remains cold in the exhaust! (According to the digital infrared thermometer). This is a motorcycle that has not been ridden for more than six years, and has been stored who knows how. I tried carburetor and gasoline cleaners, without result; replacement of spark plugs, filters, etc. I will probably have to clean the carbs like yours, to remedy this perhaps... If not, do you have another solution please? A+ B
Just wanted to let you know this video is still helping folks. Thank you, good sir! Much appreciated.
Can you do mine please ?
Good video, I need to do this with mine as it is exactly the same on the pilot jets on the 3rd carb. Not sure whether to tackle it myself or to get a shop to do it. I am mechanically minded but not sure how I would get on with this.
Little update. I decided to have a go at them myself, as I knew it only needed the jets cleaning. Stripped and cleaned and out back together last night. Wouldnt start. Went back to it this morning. Started straight away, to her down the road and running beautifully again. Thanks for the video.
Brilliant video. I needed to get my Hornet running so I can sell it and this video made life very easy. Does anyone know what a yellow, V-reg Hornet with 3500 genuine miles on it, in great condition, worth?
Thank you. Just what I needed to see before I embarked on my carb mission. My Haynes manual couldn't have been less helpful. This however, is gold dust. Thank you, again!
anyone here knows the standard size main jets on these? I have a hornet 600 that faul plugs, after about 1 hour of driving, if you rev it it smokes black, does not burn oil, cleaned carbs many times, tried changing seals, jets, float valve so on, but only with the size already in it, its using #114 size jets, and i don't think those are correct. i read somewhere its suppose to be #108 on cyl 1 and 4, and #110 on 2 and 3, but im not sure, and 108 seems to be hard to get
very helpful video, thanks.
Looking forward for the good season to reborn my hornet 2004 model after 5 years of sleep. I hope that carbs are still there inside the cover. Very nice video. I could not do the same by my own but at least now I know how a good job should be.
Are you using 15 W fork oil?
My 2006 has never had the carbs off, have loosened the clamps and can not pull the four carbs off the rubber mounts, any suggestions?
had the same issue yesterday with my Hornet (probably never had the carbs off as well, 60k km on odometer), you just gotta use force
The factory service manual says to loosen the clamps at the carb side of the rubber mounts, and that is what I did. Could not get them off. I then re-tightened those clamps and loosened the clamps at the engine side, and the carbs came right off. Parts are getting hard to find here in the States, they only imported them in 04 and 06.@@adamkozolka6981
Rock up and down. They will come
Yeah do what the other guy said rock them back and forth side to side and pull hard
Its right, you have to use foce but you also can use warmth to make it easier. On my honda hornet cb 600f pc 34 from 1998 i took my hair dryer and blew 1min of warn air on it and surpisingly it went of like nothing. Before that i tried it day after day with force
hi Colonel
Have you a vlog on synchronized carbs, thanks
Helou I have questions? Do you have mail please
Great video changed mine no problem after watching video luckily I led mine over suspended from garage roof , only one problem the clutch won't fully disengage ,keeps stalling when I put it in gear tried bleeding etc was ok before can anyone help regards Mike
What is the moter
Thanks very much for your videos. I’m about to rebuild.commission a 2000 Hornet that’s been sat for 4 years - looking forward to getting stuck in, it’s my first motorbike restoration so your videos have been immensely helpful. 🙏🏻
Are you located close to Tyne and wear?
Yes I live near Houghton-le-Sring, how about you 👍
@@davidmustard2583 I thought I clocked the accent haha I love in boldon colliery, how much would ya charge for this? My 2001 tbird needs the return spring replacing. Think with this vid I maybe able to get through it.
Hi Charlie, Sorry but I am in the middle of a campervan conversion and can't get in my garage as it's rammed with rubbish. I would be happy to give you any advice to help. Regards, Dave
Thank you very much anyways! I think I shall give it a stab and may throw a question or two your way of I get stuck! Thanks again!
This is fantastic! I gotta replace the spring on my shaft! Thank you!
What happens if your a numpty like me and mix all the parts up in one pot ? I dismantled them all and mixed everything up. Thank you
Most things will be okay as long as the jet sizes are the same. The only thing which I can think of is the mixture jets may need readjusting as you won't be able to reply on the original adjustment positions. Good luck, Dave
@@davidmustard2583 Thank you Dave.
Hi just 1 this about the spring on the choke how do you attach it please. liam
Hi Liam, Sorry but it was a few years ago since I worked on these carbs and I can't remember. Kind regards, Dave
So its been a long time and i cant find any video of it being used. Alot of energy to make these great videos i liked them alot but where is the run video? Great video series
Hi, Sorry but family problems and too many projects are getting in the way and I haven't had the time to do any videos. I have used the dyno but I didn't have a front wheel stand so I had to hold it with ratchet straps. It didn't look too safe so I didn't want to video it. I will put p a video of it running but I won't be able to get into my garage this year. Sorry to keep you on tender hooks. Dave
@@davidmustard2583 i appreciate the quick reply. I am doing the same build and why I was asking. Great project cheers mate
Thank god I found your channel I have a honda silver wing which needs new seals but to get to the middle bracket I would have to remove all the fairing "massive job" and was wondering why folk remove the forks been looking for over a week because I thought there must be a reason to remove them Now having seen this it is actually makes sense to do them in situe due to all the bolts being tight and the forks in place is a natural vice Thanks for sharing this you have just saved me hours and hours of un nessasary work cheers fella !!
Hello I am from México and allready get an Adventurer. There is not enough information about this bike that is why i like your videos. I like to now the diferences whith the Thunderbird 900 . Thank you for your value
Hi Carlos, Sorry but I don't know the difference, I am not a Triumph expert I was just repairing a friend's bike. Good luck, Dave
How would you adjust the idle ?
If you look at the first video, at about 5 minutes in I have the carbs upside down on the bench. On the bottom of carbs you will see the tick over adjuster in the middle, it is the yellow 5 pointed star.
Hi, I‘ve also got a Hornet PC34. Last week, as I was riding, it started to stutter and died. I somehow tried starting it with the choke, it did but only for a few seconds. I towed it back home and noticed, anytime I crank it, petrol leaks from where the manifold connects to the exhaust. Opened it, cranked and gas splashed out. Cleaned the wet spark plugs, got it started, but keeps on stuttering and dying. Any idea what it could be ?
All I can think of is that the float valves are not shutting off and flooding the engine. To test this see if you can start the engine with the petrol turned off. If it runs ok for a while, try turning the petrol on and see if it causes it to die. Hope this helps. Dave
@@davidmustard2583 It does run for some time when gas is turned off. I‘m looking for someone to service the carbs now, quite expensive.
Thanks Colonel, I'm about to attempt the cleaning of my CBR600F3's (same engine) carbs.
WELL DONE MATE PLAIN AND SIMPLE I DID MINE EXAQCTLY SAME LAST NIGHT
Hi really enjoyed the video ,do you do work for other people? I would be really interested in some carb work and other general stuff on my 1999 hornet ,thank you 😊
I tend to do work for friend and people who may live near to me. I live in the Durham/Sunderland area. Sorry for the delayed reply.
@@thecolonelscustoms8302 I live in Whitley bay and travel to penshaw regularly ?
so how many turns for each of the nipples?
If it's the mixture screws you are talking about, turn them in, one at a time, gently untill they stop. Make a note of how many turns in you turn it. This is how many turns out Which you need to turn that screw out when you set it up. The workshop manual should give you a guide it the carbs have been messed with. Hope this helps. Dave
I enjoyed your video I have Honda CBF 600 and it's been in my garage all winter and having problems in starting has runs for a few seconds then cuts out any chance you can come and fix mine. the bike is 18 years old and it's only covered 1000 100 and 88 mi from new
Hi Anthony, I have just had a family bereavement so I won't be doing any work for a while but if you can hold on and can tell me what area you live in and can provide me with your contact details I will be in touch. Regards, Dave
@@davidmustard2583 I live on the Romney Marsh in Kent a little place called lydd very near Dungeness and New Romney if you are interested to get my bike fixed please come back appreciate your answer
@@davidmustard2583 in which area are you
Northeast of England
@@davidmustard2583 it would be lovely if you was much closer because I think that's a bit too far away unless you are about to give me a price to collect the bike fix it and fetch it back but I think it overall will be cheaper to go to a local dealership have a think on this
Great video, thanks. I’ll remember this when I need to do mine.
Thx ❤️
What did you use to balance the carbs ?
I checked them with my balance gauges but they didn't need adjusting.
top job colonel. good thing you let the fuel out before joggling them round. those fuels nowadays are not the best, the green snot see it all the time.
Why you did not use Liqui Moly MTX and forget about all that job?? MTX will clean your carb inside.
How much to replace shaft including parts and labour! Thanks
Hi Wendy, Where are you based and how urgently do you need it done. Regards, Dave
@@thecolonelscustoms8302 hi Mark here on wife's phone, sent reply but must have got lost in cyberspace. Anyway saw a legend for sale with broken gear selector shaft and wanted to know cost of parts and labour to replace ,my friend drilled a broken shaft on a Thunderbird a few years ago and it's still good, but it was broken on the spline whereas the legend is broken an inch inside casing so may not be feasible. I could ship back to you if it's viable. Cheers Mark
I am in Barcelona Spain
If you can sort it about six weeks
Is it the same on a 2001 ktm 65 can't find a video anywhere for the topend rebuild
Sorry I couldn't say for certain but I would imagine that they will be very similar. Dave
Where is part 1?
It is still on my TH-cam channel. I have just checked.
