Hi! My name is Katie and I'm an illustrator and comic artist. I hope to make videos that document my art process and show all the stories I am currently making.
It took me over a decade to get 1K subs - WHY?
Long time to see! Glad to be back after my long break so let's start off with a look at how my art accounts have grown over the years.

When you draw do you lean towards a simpler art style or a more detailed one? I found some old time-lapses from 2022 and thought to use them for a video about the art style. I wish I used a more detailed illustration for this comparison but it still works well for this video. I'm worried my adhd ass isn't gonna be able to handle the extremely delayed gratification
this isn't me trying to be hateful or saying you don't deserve more money, infact this is more directed at the comments talking about webtoon exploiting creators. literally how? creating on webtoon original and being paid nuts is where you can call it a problem because then you're working for them, but canvas creation is a free version where YOU are choosing to publish your story because you want to. it's not a job application they're handing out and the truth of the matter is that they have no reason to even pay in the first place, they're choosing to as a way to give a little something back to creators who work hard. ppl in the comments are being entitled lol. webtoon doesn't owe anyone anything unless they're working for them and canvas creators aren't.
No baby that’s not even close to enough. Cant u publish your comic on your own and collect all the revenue for yourself? U deserve much better
Love your content. ❤️
Yeesh, how tf am I making more through Patreon? I'm sure glad I didn't bother with Webtoons, and that's partly because of my horizontal format.
If you could get 1 dollar per view you'd made bank
I’m gonna be honest…this is just sad. Like, you spent two years of your life creating a fun online comic series which accumulated more than millions of views…and the returning pay is practically a roll of quarters, really?
I went into this project not to make money but to learn about comics - which is what I did. The money was a little bonus. Plus, webtoon only has a single image ad at the bottom of each episode so I expected the pay to be a lot less than what you expect with TH-cam ad videos. Luckily there are other ways to make money with comics
What about the Super Like commission? Don't you normally get any super likes?
I just started learning about webtoons. You did a great job.
I've been working on my comic series, The Laughstronauts, for the last 2 years (currently on issue 8). I've come to accept that this is more of a hobby for me that I'll make a tiny bit of money on. I print every 5 issues in a volume and sell it to local comic shops and people. I haven't bothered putting it online for free because I feel like it's not really worth it, instead I sell individual issues on my Ko-fi shop (it also makes me $0 there lol). But the physical copies have been the best route for me. In the end though, I just enjoy the process and making comics is fun for me regardless if I get money or fame from it.
people complaining about the little amount of money dont understand economics at all. its a free site that has very little ads the fact it pays anything at all is good.
Count me as a new sub! It is a full time job to grow on SM and it can take years to get traction, but luck plays the biggest part.
It’s so nice to find artists that are creating art for themselves and not just for the algorithm!✨✨
You likely already have everything you need in order to be successful on youtube. Just put the focus more on yourself. Put yourself on the thumbnail. You are cute and you have a good voice, use it. Copy clickbaity titles and thumbnails from successful channels (copy like an artist :D). Give some insider perspective on how life is as an artist. Just an opinion, nothing more. Being successful on social media can be much more stressful than most people imagine. much love.
Hey I saw ur comic, and just come to say love the art and we're the story is heading can you make a dramatic story, such as a maybe let say a high school nerdy girl that has one friend and as the day progress at some point she try to fit on with the cool ones then her only friend kills herself because she couldn't afford to see her friend change (the nerd girl). The plot is the nerdy girl regrets her decision and the chapter/comic end. This will leave an open question story to the viewers. And can you not make them candy pretty, can you make the characters in a simple art style with no exaggerating clothes and stuff. More like naruto type of art work (keep it simple)
Looking forward to the comic continuing. Whats you're opinion on Cara?(If you have one) I find Cara is nice for the community aspect, at least in my experience. Might be questionable if you're business focused as its very artist oriented, but people have compared it to the early days of deviantart.
I have a Cara but I haven’t used it much yet. I’m think it’s a great place to post art and I hope it grows more. I can see it being a good place to connect with fellow artists
@@KatieCloverArt fair enough. Though I'd ask since you've been doing these kind of videos.

Great Book!!! Wow! I knew you could do it!
…respectfully smash…NOT THE ACTUAL PERSON!!! JUST THE REPRESENTATION OF SAID PERSON!!…and the OC…
Uh... SCP-009?
Haha! I had to look up this SCP and I definitely see the similarities with the crystals 😂
Not sure why anyone would even make a comic anymore. That’s slave labor. And you know they pocketing 98% of the revenue…..
Muy buenas Le interesa entrar en un proyecto grande que no interfiere con sus horarios y ofrece más de lo que pide?
What is the name of the comic and is it on webtoon
It's called Crystalized and yes it's over on Webtoon Canvas!
I love that this trend is still going strong ☺️☺️☺️☺️
Yes! It's so fun see how creators react to their characters
Was gonna say "finally, a peaceful moment between oc and artist" but that shit turned real fast 😂
cute ass art style
OOOOOOHH I LOVE THIS SOSOSOSO MUCCHHH
HAHAAHAHAHAH I LOVE THAT WEBTOON
Thank you!! I'm happy to hear that!!
"yeah so making your arms into rock candy was my idea!" "+^+"
its so silly i love it
Was expecting a slip and a teleport at the end lol Im happy you're back to doing the comic!
@@justinsmith5870 she probably teleported away after this haha! 😂 happy to be back making this comic
@@KatieCloverArt I have found a lot of artists/animators through this trend & it's interesting seeing the ones I already follow doing it. They're all a little different.
Imagine if a manga sold 2 million copies and the artist only made $1600. That's no way to sustain any industry.
apples and oranges. the content isnt being sold its posted for free and the earnings are from the limited ads webtoons has. it isnt even close to being the same thing.
Yeah, if you're thinking of earning as a storyteller don't go for webtoon, i recommend webnovel. Ain't saying that they are good with payouts but it took me 2 months to earn 200$ as a novel author. You then probably work out a deal with webnovel to have your book adapted into a comic on your own terms but webtoon are demons 😂
This is very, very helpful! Thank you!
Do something serious story
I enjoy this type of analysis video! It's really nice to see, since a lot of creators don't show their progress. I noticed that it seems that the number of subscribers verses views for you seems a lot closer and consistent than what I've heard about on TH-cam, where you might see channels with hundreds of thousands or millions of followers (and still proportional to smaller amounts), but their average views don't get anywhere close to the total number of subscribers (and while it shows you how many subscribers are watching, it seems to be only around a fifth of them, depending on the time and video). I know that can be a little thrown off by people like me who save almost every video to each I'm subscribed to and am behind in the time of viewing, but surely I'm in the minority of that behavior. So, I just thought that was interesting as well!
I thought you going to move on to the next image instead of cleaning up at 1:01 I think your sketch looks great and has a lot of character,no need to clean up just move on to the next and get these comics out
Normally yes I would definitely move quicker with the sketch! This art was for a t shirt design so I wanted to take some extra time on the design. :D
Its just pathetic that talented comic artists get ripped off like that by corporations. Content creators make those companies tons of money by posting to their platform and they just take a dump on the people that supply the product. I'm a professional tattoo artist and I can make $1600 in two days. TH-cam rips off creators too. Virtually all corporate platforms screw creators.
I love your style 😍 And you look so pretty as well 😊
That's heartbreaking - never knew webtoon was so bad for artists. You should listen to @RobertoBlake he's a youtuber who shares how creators can be full time content creators , its really good esoecailly his livestreams he breaks down everything from monetization, sponsorship, growth, I think it might be useful. You seem like such a nice person too, hope it helps
Hi, I am getting into art. What do you recommend? My sister uses an iPad, should I do the same? What’s an easy art style for beginners?
It's awesome that your getting into art! an Ipad is great to draw with if you have one, but you can start with whatever tools you have right now (I started with pen/pencils and paper). As for the art style I would just draw whatever you feel is the most fun. Take time to experiment and try drawing both from imagination and reference. Hope this helps!
@@KatieCloverArt thanks.
Hi please I’ve been doing research about it but can’t find any informations how can I get in touch with artists as a screenwriter ?
I would go to places where artists usually post. Instagram and Twitter come to mind but discord servers are also a great way to connect with people in the art field. To find some good art servers you can try looking at large art channels here on TH-cam since they usually have discord servers for people to share art. Hope this helps :)
@@KatieCloverArtthank you somuch this helped me ❤️
Thank you for sharing, it was interesting to learn about how your comic grew :)
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
I would but I'm still on my making my 2nd episode
What's the deal with only featured comic being able to add music? How do you become a featured comic?
My guess is they want their original comics to stand out more so they gave them more features like music. Also to become a featured artist I believe you have to be noticed by webtoons. Sometimes they have contests but it’s hard to win those
@@KatieCloverArtare featured comics different from webtoon originals? Do they pay more to featured ? Are featured comics temporarily featured
Hopping back in here to say- I was reminded that your physical book may be available, and I checked Amazon (Canada) and it's there! Please make sure to post links in your TH-cam vids description of where we can get your physical book (probably wise to post the Amazon US, Canada and UK store links) to take people directly there. I didn't realize that I could purchase it via Amazon til I looked, and everytime I watch these kinds of videos from artists I think 'how can I support them? I'd love to purchase their book/ merch if I can!'. I didn't even realize you had a merch store til I looked at your description! A general rule I've learned from my work (that is related to arts marketing) is you want to direct people where you want them with just one click. If people have to click more than once, they get lost or lose interest. Your physical book may be the largest way you can make the most worth of your money after years of hard work- don't be afraid to advertise it, cuz we want it! Lol.
Thanks for letting me know. Lately I've been working on my marketing skills and am putting together a place where all my merch/links can be found. I'll be sure to update my videos when it's ready. :)
