Why you NEED to experiment with art and doodle.
Sometimes I feel my art gets a bit repetitive so how can we fix that?
While I make more comic-focused videos I wanted to make something simple and draw some bug characters while I talk about art.

    Wow that's very disheartening to listen to. Glad you can keep a positive outlook on it though. Just don't let it burn you out in the long run. Does Webtoon allow you to advertise sites like Patreon from your page as a Canvas creator? If so I might give them a little pass since they're giving you a platform to advertise from which you can monetize yourself from. If not, then that's a very exploitative business model that needs to be addressed.

    Thank you for the video, it was very insightful. Its a shame how Webtoons has decreased the income for canvas creators. I couldnt imagine it becoming a full source of income, but there is still the potential for you to get scouted and brought to originals. As you said doing it for fun and sharing it with an audience is a reward in itself. Webtoons still provides a platform to post and markets it in a way, so its probably still worth uploading to reach an audience. Good work with your comic, and good luck going forward!

    I haven't uploaded anything to Tapas in years but from what I recall their ad revenue program was far more forgiving and you could cash out every $25. I know these days it's mostly K-dramas titled stuff like "I Was Resurrected as the French Bulldog of the Villainess' Step-Brother's Valet" but it might be worth looking into posting there as well. Unless Webtoon instituted some evil non-compete clause or something else I'm not aware of, but from what you've said in this video I wouldn't put it past them.

    Life is short. Its easy to overlook that when you're young. Sure, you enjoy doing this, but clearly you're getting exploited and the returns for your time are not there. Every business person gets to a point where they ask themselves is this working for me, and should I try something else now. I'm thinking the hours you put into this are better spent doing something else. Before long you'll be wanting to have a family, get yourself a home, and all the things that other people want. This is holding you back from that and if you persist you'll get to the point of no return where its too late to recover the income you've lost. I'm not saying give up your career as an artist, I'm saying this webtoon canvas is not worth your time and you should shift your energies to something else.

    If your comic got accepted to be an original by weebton company they will pay you per episode for a specific number of chapters and the payout depends on the contract , for example if you signed a contract whit weebton that say "1000$ per episode for 50 chapters then they expect you to post 50 chapters on time in return for 50000$ so in general they will pay you 1000$ per episode you post" but this depends on the money you agreed on in the contract from what I heard the payout can varies from 500$ to 2000$ per episode , that's for originals but OFC canvas get paid very very very less , you should have a good art style and a decent story to be selected as an originals , I only see canvas creators complaining here on TH-cam about the payout

    Technology has changed the creative arts so much. On the one hand, it’s easier than ever to access a platform and create an audience. On the other, it’s basically impossible to be a “professional artist” in any medium, because the payout is virtually nothing. Visual arts, music, writing - all of it is completely undervalued now because we’re so saturated with “content,” and no one is ever going to pay a fair price for stuff that they can already get for free. You could make mind-blowing original work, but if you dare to charge money for it no one’s going to bother. So you’re stuck in this ad-revenue ghetto, helping tech companies get rich while you barely make coffee money. This is the trade-off we made by destroying cultural gatekeepers (and their markets), and opening the floodgates with technology. It will get much worse as AI becomes normalized.

    All art is exploitative, the creative industry suck. The real lesson is to get a “normal” uncreative job, stack up cash and go into early retirement and then embrace an artistic career without the risks and stress of economic instability and incompetent employers constantly breathing down your neck and pushing your products in bad directions. It is ridiculous the amount of work and training we artist need to put in in order to match just some average joe’s life quality who barely does anything and simply just clocks in from 8-17. It is really not worth it folks, don’t get fooled.

    We are all trained on copyrighted work in some way. You are as well. We all have folders of our favorite artists and follow Art-station/Pintrest etc. It will just be the future. I have worked in Gamesdev for approx 18 years and I really love AI. I have generated easily 100 000 images and love it more than watching movies. I haven't worked in the industry for 2 years so I have only heard from my industry buddies how frowned upon ai is. Personally I find it is better than me and obviously faster. I can use Mid-journey to concept through a stack of iterations and then get straight to the modelling. The irony is that it hasn't saved me much concepting time as I create folders with hundreds of iterations of an idea. So it is more that it adds quality as I can sort through way more options over a day or two and try and get that blend of what I want rather than what it is just giving me. As a game artist the end result is quality and consistency of the game assets. (and obviously speed from a company perspective) It will be interesting to see where the consensus lands, but I have already adopted it into technical texturing pipelines as well. Also I use z-depth alphas of my own models to generate quality concepting directly onto the 3d object and that is a game changer. Very exciting and scary times, as I assess my future usefulness and tech adoption. As an industry artist I find adopting new technology as early as possible is generally helpful.

    All this effort, a sh**ton of views, and THIS payment? It doesn't even reach a standard comics industry gig per month, and I'm talking about a zero popular artist like me. Popular artists make triple the standard (the standard is something around $4K per issue). Weebton is clearly taking advantage of creators and making them work like slaves. You can use it as a portfolio to find gigs easily in the comics industry. It's still important to show your portfolio to publishers, but don't underestimate the power of your numbers. Editors are changing their game, and popularity is becoming a bigger factor in finding artists. Or a Kickstarter. With this huge audience, you can monetize your comic easily.

  • @BN-qo5zc
    @BN-qo5zc 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Funny reading some of these comments dismissing that this is exploitative. Some basic business understanding: It's a net revenue share (not gross), meaning Webtoons frontloads all risk and costs - in other words, the artists pay all infrastructure, operations and labor costs, before sharing the net profit with none of their own costs accounted for. There's no breakdown of the operations costs anywhere, meaning Webtoons can simply claim whatever margin they want as an expense (in the same way movies never technically make any money on the books through "Hollywood Accounting"). There's no audit provision in their terms, meaning Webtoons has no incentive to reflect page views honestly. Related, the artist having to manually count views is intentional design, to help limit track and liability should that ever be challenged. The lowest of the low ad buys are around 1 dollar per 1000 views - Webtoons own marketing materials indicate they are far more strongly positioned than that, so we'll be generous and still low ball it as 5 dollars per 1000 views, which in this case would mean Webtoons kept 4.50 and, if assume the best rate shown, the artist they received 0.50 per 1K, or 11% (this isn't out of line with how most platforms operate, content creators basically subsidize all these businesses)

    Good advice for me since I am also project focused and then I get overwhelmed and don't do any art. Separately, I would like to know more about your process at 7:20 to improve drawing from memory the poses. You mentioned you just find realistic photos and draw the poses? Could you show that process!? My poses tend to be very stiff and I want to expand more. Maybe my next step is to practice gesture drawing in general!

    • @KatieCloverArt

      When I study from photos of people I like to focus on being quick and loose - usually taking 30 - 60 seconds to draw. That way I can focus on the movement and expression of the pose rather than just getting the anatomy right. I find the more I do this the easier it gets to draw from memory. But yes, I will keep this idea in mind for future ideas!
