Ah, Ça Ira | French Revolutionary Song
This is my first upload of 2024, hope y'all enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Historical context:
"Ça ira" (English: "it'll be fine") is an emblematic song of the French Revolution, first heard in May 1790. It underwent several changes in wording, all of which used the title words as part of the refrain.
The music is a popular contredanse air called "Le carillon national", and was composed by Bécourt, a violinist (according to other sources: side drum player) of the théâtre Beaujolais. Queen Marie Antoinette herself is said to have often played the music on her harpsichord.
The title and theme of the refrain were inspired by Benjamin Franklin, in France as a representative of the Continental Congress, who was very popular among the French people. When asked about the American Revolutionary War, he would reportedly reply, in somewhat broken French, "Ça ira, ça ira" ("It'll be fine, it'll be fine").

The World Turned Upside Down | English Diggers' Song

This will be my final upload of 2023, so I decided to do a song by one of my favourite folk singers! Hope y'all enjoy and an amazing new year to all of you! Historical context: The Diggers were a movement around during the times of Oliver Cromwell/the interregnum period (the short period when England had no monarch), and were a movement who advocated common land, which was the idea that land sh...

This is a lesser known makhnovist song. It was originally sung by a man called Arkady Severny and is typically considered to be a pub/drinking song. Also, I decided to add filters and effects to make it seem more like the older 1920s silent movies, as the style of music fits quite well with that aesthetic. Hope y'all enjoy and it would be appreciated if you could like the video and subscribe to...
Säkkijärven polkka | Finnish Folk Song
มุมมอง 33911 หลายเดือนก่อน
Säkkijärven polkka is a well-known folk tune from Finland that is very popular with Finnish accordionists. It was especially popularized by Viljo "Vili" Vesterinen (1907-1961). The tune was first recorded in Säkkijärvi (now Kondratyevo in the Leningrad Oblast, Russia), and the lyrics sometimes sung with the tune, stating that while Säkkijärvi itself might have been lost (ceded to the Soviet Uni...
