1st Gen Tundra Walk Around Simple Overland Build
มุมมอง 12K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I do a walk around of my first gen tundra build. Its a very simple overland build that I have been loving. These trucks are so under rated in my opinion you get a V8, 6.5' bed, more space than a tacoma but not overly huge for a half ton. Im looking forward to adding more to this hopefully in the future. UPGRADING TO IRONMAN 4X4 UCA'S ON A TOYOTA TACOMA
Stealth camping camper needs to be a must this winter, Mount everything on a spare tire rack or cooler rack
I hVe a stepside for sale, Needs a little rust repair inside, Outside is mint, Always wanted to customize a four door or tacoma with the big stepside bed.😊
i have a question about the mounting rails on the bottom. How long are they? i have a ladder rack on my truck.
They run the full length of the tent front to back
Can you fit an awning under the tent once it’s mounted. I want the 12.2 for the same reason to keep it low profile as possible
Have you camped in the wind and how does it hold up?
I haven’t been in high winds yet but the fabric is pretty tight so it should do pretty well I think
Looks nice! I’ve been looking at those as well to put on mine..one other question, what product do you use on the fenders to keep them so good looking? Thanks again for another great video!
Are the front shocks left and right specific?
I don’t remember but I don’t think so
What is that switch/controlller called ?
Voswitch
Hey what size front top bolt do you have ? I recently bought these same 5160’s but my factory 21mm bolt doesn’t fit through the sleeve on the Bilstein shock
Not sure I would have to double check do you have a Mojave? I think something’s different on the bolts for those
Can one use the roof rack that comes with the car( I have a jeep Cherokee) or does it come with a rack?
What size of bolts did u put because I got the same Nilight bracket And where did u buy it thanks
Not sure what size bolt I used I had them laying around. The bolt that comes with the lights is to large to fit the nilight bracket
@ thank u very much I really appreciate that
Just bought a stock 2015 Crew Cab Off Road & came here to see what a stock ride height rig looks like. Did you have to cut the cab mount to run 33's or are you just dealing with tire rub? I'm on 265s and would rather run 285s if I can get away without rubbing
I don’t have the truck anymore but I didn’t cut or trim anything on it with that setup but it did rub until I put a lift on it then most of the rubbing was gone
You may have just convinced me to go with Topo over the GFC.
Interested to hear your thoughts on the GFC after having it for over a year
I wasn’t to happy with it. It had a lot of short comings but it seems that have fixed a lot of issues with there V2 Pro. I have a new camper now a Topo Toppers camper and I’m pretty happy with it. I prefer to have a pass through area for the bed instead of having to move panels around to get in out.
@ right on. I’ve been between the GFC and the Lone Peak camper. Aesthetically I think the GFC looks better being more low profile. But the Lone Peak is definitely larger. Could be more cumbersome on the trail.
I would get the lone peak over the GFC that was the camper I was actually looking into next but I happened to find the Topo local for an awesome deal. The lone peak roof is longer than the gfc but the width of the campers are similar so it shouldn’t make much of a difference on the trails.
@ right on. I just think there is more of a gap between the top of the truck on the line peak. Looks a little off. I’m now looking at the Topo Mesa as well. Lots of options!
The only reason those tents are 4k is because people keep buying them.. its a joke. There are so many that are not over 2k that are just as good. People need to stop supporting these companies that are taking advantage of the consumer.
This is built from Home Depot off the shelf material. I’d rather go with gfc, super pacific, oru and my favorite lone peak.
Wrong it’s highly well built! It’s way better than my GFC V2 but you’ve probably never seen either of them in person to compare. I’ve owned both so I can compare. Haven’t owned the other ones so I couldn’t say how well they are built
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel If you say so, I’ve looked at all in person.
dang... I wish I could find things like this on marketplace. Unreal. I absolutely love that setup!!
Honestly I hardly find good deals near me for anything so I had to jump on this one lol
I have these as my ditch lights also, found some black aluminum tape on Amazon and helped 100% on hood glare after putting it on
💯💯👍🏼 i run Kenda tires, on 3 jeeps so far, no issues.
I did end up switching them out for some Mickey Thompsons. I’ve had 3 sets and all 3 have had balancing issues including this one. I tried to get them balanced 3 different times and after the third try I just gave up and returned them
Nice. Just ordered a set to replace my factory set. 2024 JL
Nice pick up! For the diesel heater, you can probably buy the diesel heater port from Lone peak camper and cut a hole for it. It would be a lot more convenient when you want to use the heater.
Mount these on the tundra 👀
How did you like the upper control arms. I'm about to jump on some total chaos but saw ur video and ur budget build actually looks really good quality for the prices on your parts. How's the truck been since then?
I don’t have the tundra anymore but they were good for the price I had no issues with them
You're right, this Pecron smart car charger is one of the best things you can add to a camper or even a car and it is very reasonable price wise. I got mine when they were introduced for about $115 with discounts and promotions. A lot cheaper than a small solar panel. The EcoFlow smart charger has one big advantage (if you own one of the Delta 2 or Delta 3 series) in that you can charge the car battery from your power station at like 60 amps or more (the 800 watt rating is bi-directional) if your car battery dies. Looks like you are off to a great start!
I recently bought an 06 SR5 Double Cab and I love it. Want to get to working on it but I'm not very well versed on the lot of it. Appreciate the video and cool truck!
BTW... there's a left and a right light... those "side LEDs" are only on one side of each. they're meant to ACTUALLY be your ditch lights. from the look of it in the video, you have them backwards. Not sure if you fixed it in a later video or not. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
No there’s not a left and right they have side leds on both sides they aren’t sold in pairs they are same light on both sides
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel sure as heck... you're right. They sell a 3" cube that has the marked left and right... might be a good swap (those to bumper, cube to cowl mount) to get some of that light off the hood, you're gonna blind yourself at night. 🤷🏻♂ still nice lights though.
@@CamofAllTrades6.7 I plan on making some plastic covers for the sides that are pointing over the hood hopefully that will help
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel 🤔 all jokes aside, you might be able to test some tape on the inside of the amber cover and see if it blunts the light. Then if it works well, you might be able to affix a thin plastic/metal shield or something in that spot on the inside of the cover. Anywho, great job on the install and info.
Glad to see another video man! Great stuff.
Would be nice to see you mounting it on the truck.

Nice 👍 I can never keep up with your camping ⛺️ always something new 👍
I wonder if that bedrack would fit the tundra
It’s adjustable but I think the tundra bed maybe to wide
I like the soft tops. Fl sun will damage anything. Easy to replace the cover. Hard tops, Most covers can’t be replaced once sun damaged
For the convenience of not having to take it off or put it back on afterwards especially at 5am in the sierras with frozen hands I'll buy a new one in 10-15 years
Looks good!!
I have the hest matress and it’s worth the cost. I’ve heard good reviews on the Baja boss tires.
I can’t wait to get one! And yes the Baja boss have been great so far
Anything will be better than the issues you had with your GFC. You also will not regret going with the Hest mattress. It's amazing.
Yeah I saw you had the same issues I hope people see our videos and go straight for a different camper instead of realizing the issues later after getting a gfc lol. I’ve heard the hest are amazing I can’t wait to get one!
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel Thankfully I never had the water intrusion issues you dealt with but everything else made me want to dump that thing faster than I could imagine. Excited to hear how you like the Topo Toppers.
Is it safe to use your cooker on the inside of an enclosure?
What kind of radio is that?
It’s a boss 9” screen
The holy grail of 1st gen camper shells! Nice rig!
Thanks! unfortunately I just sold it
What camper is that? Ur truck inspired me to get one of these tundras going
Thanks brother! I recently sold it unfortunately but the cap came on the truck it was an ARE brand
How tall is the tent from the bottom to top when it is closed?
I would have to measure it but probably only about 6-8 inches
Gonna get these with the next 20% discount coupon I get. Can’t beat that price.
Did you have trail rails on your truck when you installed this?
No I don’t have them
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel cool, I drive a 04 Tundra and don’t have trail rails. You think this would work for my truck? What clamp did they send you for clamping it to your bed? Sorry for all the questions.
Yeah it would work the rack is adjustable to fit most truck beds. They send you a piece that wedges up under the bed rails and when tightened it locks the rack down
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel thanks my man for all your help
What vehicle did you get from selling your Jeep and the Tundra?
I ended up keeping the jeep
What’s the year and mileage on the beauty?
I just sold it but it was a 2005 with 200k miles
Amber DRL is good
I have the same Hooke Off-road rack. Was that the mounting hardware that came with it?
Yes
Do you know what model number your Boss head unit is? I've owned my first gen Tundra for 21 years, and it doesn't look near as good as yours. lol Thanks!
Haha thanks I actually just sold it unfortunately. I’m not sure what the model number was but I know it was the 9” unit
What is the shell made out of?
Just like an ABS plastic it’s not metal or anything
Where did you find that camper shell? I know ARE makes them but did you get yours new or used?
It came on the truck when I bought it
@@Vehiclesupportedtravel LUCKY! That’s a win.
How do you pack it when it gets wet?
Close it up and make sure to open it when you get where you’re going or when you get back home as long as it doesn’t stay closed too long
