Richard M Sherman live at Disney's El Capitan Theatre 2007
Having just attended the memorial tribute to Richard M. Sherman at Disney's historic El Capitan Theatre, I felt compelled to post this video I shot of Richard in that same theatre on September 6, 2007 for a special screening of "Jungle Book." Here, Richard sings some of the many songs he wrote with his equally talented brother, and my friend, Robert B. Sherman. Enjoy these songs from Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, Jungle Book, and It’s a Small World. I treasure this video, and it proves that Richard was not only a great songwriter, but a great entertainer, too!

I got to fly on the Star Wars jet in Japan

There are three official Star Wars jets in Japan and I got to fly on one of them. ANA, Japan’s largest airline, got permission from Disney to have three jets with an official Star Wars livery. One jet is themed to C-3PO, one to BB-8, and an R2-D2 plane. I was able to fly aboard one of them and show you some of the fun both outside the plane and inside. What fun it was to hear “May the Force Be ...

Quick question: When you show the program from the live show, I saw the name Graziella in the Frontier number along with Wally Boag's name. Would you happen to know if that was the same Graziella who was married to Will B. Able? Thank you for your time and this amazing video on the tremendously talented Wally Boag.
I truly appreciate your kind words about my video!! I did a little research after reading your message and I'd say it's most probable. The Graziella you are referring to came to the United States in 1959 as a can-can dancer. This is stated in a 1979 newspaper article when she and husband Will B. Able were doing a show called "The Original Baggy Pants Revue of Genuine Burlesque." I can't imagine there were too many people with the single name of Graziella doing can-can.
Well, the original ride (1958-1982) is just scary.
That's an understatement!
One of the things i know about about the Pre-1984 Alice attraction is that the ending used to be a crash room, just after the old Tea Party scene (Currently the Queen's courtyard), you crash through a giant teapot to a room with black walls, roofs and black-light, at first you’ll hear loud crashes as you’ll see the strobe-lit cartoon crash effects with Alice screaming, after U-turning, you’ll encounter various signs pointing all over (Seen in Tulgey Wood in the current ride.) while Alice says “Oh dear, how do i get out? Oh! I lost my way!”. (This is where the croquet animation and courtroom currently sit on.) After turning left, you’ll reach a straight corridor with 3 diminishing and screaming crash doors with black backgrounds (Currently the guards blocking your way and other doorways.), this was a effect that you're leaving Wonderland by hitting the doors, each door opens with a crash noise and Goofy's scream playing at varying speeds. And lastly is a black door with a keyhole in the middle that crashes you outside with the “almost” same yell of the current ride, however you’ll instantly get sent to the station after passing the vine in that version.
@@imnotuploading512 I thought you were referring to the giant oversized faces and the "scary" Cheshire Cat but I can tell you that when I rode it as a young kid in the 1970s I loved it and was never scared.

Yes, my friend Bob Sherman passed away in 2012. :(
Thank you for sharing this. I am in this 1000 voice choir. Our high school choir auditioned months in advance. I’m able to recognize many of my friends. Arroyo High School Choir. And yes we met Darth Vader during practice!
I'm so happy to know that you were in that choir! Very cool the pictures are clear enough for you to recognize your friends. I appreciate your comment! Thank you! So cool you actually met James Earl Jones! What a great voice to hear tell the story, wasn't it?
Who are you trying to fool. That’s not cubby that’s from the early 1949 start of the Mickey Mouse club. They got too big for their britches and them and threatened to leave the show if they didn’t get a raise. Disney fired them and they quit simultaneously . And two years later the NEW Mickey Mouse club with a new Cubby in 1957 Jimmy was the only member from original group that stayed. The original group tried legal action to keep Jimmy off the air. So you were an original nobody wanted you trouble makers.
Ah... The infamous Earth Announcer in the Wall E video game! Gotta love him! He is a child hood legend of mine and I didn't even know him! Lol
Hi Mr. Wolf, I’m a big fan of your videos! My favorite so far is the one about the 1930s Mickey Mouse doll-I loved seeing how well-preserved it was. I really respect your attention to historical accuracy and the way you approach topics with such care and detail. That’s why I wanted to ask you this directly instead of just Googling it. As part of Gen Z, I often hear stories about Walt Disney being prejudiced against Jewish people and other races. Is there any truth to this? If not, why do you think these stories continue to circulate? Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your amazing content!
Thanks for your message! I appreciate it more than you know!! And I really appreciate you asking me instead of Googling! I can tell you for a fact that Walt Disney was NOT prejudiced. I can specifically refer to my Jewish friend Bob Sherman who with his Jewish brother wrote some of Disney's best-loved songs like It's a Small World, the music for Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, etc. Bob only spoke so highly of Walt and one of my favorite stories is when Bob and Richard said they wanted to give the proceeds of It's a Small World to Unicef, and Walt told them no. He said Unicef will be getting plenty of money from them and the proceeds of It's a Small World will put their kids through college. The last time I ever spoke to Bob I said, "How would you describe Walt?" and he said, "A beautiful person." Many years ago I heard rumors like you did, and I asked Marc Davis (who I assume you are familiar with?) why these stories of Walt being bigoted or antisemitic, etc. were coming out and Marc said he believed because people were jealous. I wonder if he was right, but he assured me they were not true. How horrible it would have been for the man responsible for the "It's a Small World" attractions to not respect people regardless of their race, religion, or gender. I'm so pleased you asked me because I am answering based on firsthand conversations from people who knew Walt. And again, thank you for the really kind words. They mean a lot!
Hey Scott, do you happen to have any pictures or more info about the "window girl" from Spaceship Earth? A TikTok video about her blew up, and I’ve been really curious about what she looked like. There’s a thread on the WDW forum where people are also trying to figure it out, but most of the home video screenshots are pretty blurry. Do you, or maybe someone you know, have any clear pictures of her or even some concept art?
I don't have photos - I might have some video I shot in the '90s but it, too, could be blurry. I'll check. What is the TikTok about?
@KeepingtheMagicAlive I'm sorry for responding late. My replies wouldn't work, so I had to DM you. 🥲
Is it true that “In a poignant touch of “fortuosity,” Robert “Bob” Sherman’s final gift to Disney was a new verse for “It’s a Small World (After All).” Did he wrote it in 2009, at the request of Imagineer and fellow Disney Legend Tony Baxter, to commemorate the attraction’s 45th anniversary. Bob died three years later. Did he write: “It’s a world of wonder, a world of worth. / And in years to come, we’ll know peace on Earth. / We’ll open our eyes and we’ll all realize / it’s a small world after all.” Today I learned that a new verse was added to the original song, (but Disney didn’t mention Bob’s verse) only Richard’s verse was added as the last verse. Now 60th anniversary of the song: "Mother Earth unites us in heart and mind / and the love we give makes us human kind / Through our vast wondrous land / when we stand hand in hand / it's a small world after all."
It is true that Bob, who was primarily the lyricist for the original song, was asked to write new lyrics for Small World and reluctantly did so before his passing. And Richard also wrote new lyrics before his passing, although I don't know the catalyst for that. I hope that if any new lyrics are used for anything that they will be used together, and not favor Bob or Richard's - that certainly would seem disrespectful to either of them. Of course there is only one set of lyrics that was approved by Walt Disney and that is the song that has endured over the years.
So Walt never said: “If you can dream, you can do it,” okay, I didn’t expect that. I’m not defending it, nor hesitating it; if it’s not what he said but the slogan still connects with us, then, that’s all that matters. With or without Walt saying it. It’s still an important quote to those that want to pursue their talents and imagination in reality. I heard from Richard Sherman, while he was being interviewed for some anniversary event of The Jungle Book, saying that Walt Disney doesn’t pick people who are listed in credits, nor how much work they do, like what other executives from Fox, Warner Bros., MGM, Universal, and other studios that they pick from their credits (if that makes sense?). Richard said that the way Walt picked Julie Andrews for the part of Mary Poppins, because she couldn’t reprise her stage role as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, for Warner Bros., while both of these movies were being done at the same time. If Jack Warner said: “I want Audrey Hepburn to be the star,” Walt would say: “I don’t care about that, Julie will be my star on this picture and people will admire her for what she is, not her list of credits.” I don’t know why I thought of that? I don’t know if it inspires it, but it just slipped out there.
The slogan is great, Sheralyn nailed it and it should be used, but I like to keep history accurate and not attribute quotes to people who never said it. I was friends with Bob and Richard Sherman and, like you, loved when they'd tell me their stories. And wasn't it the most classy "dig" when Julie Andrews thanked Jack Warner while accepting her Academy Award for Mary Poppins? Classic.
Same here. I’m a Disney historian myself and I collected books like: They Drew As They Please series, The Nine Old Men, The Haunted Mansion: Imagineering a Disney Classic, Marc Davis: In His Own Words; I wish I can name more. I’m also a fan of watching making of-DVD-Blu-Ray-or-Documentaries about Walt and his studio and interviews from the people who knew him, and It’s difficult attributing quotes from a person who originally said it, but didn’t. I didn’t know Walt didn’t say that quote because I thought he did when I have the posters hung on the bathroom wall. I feel completely down that someone else that I never heard of… Sherlyn, someone? Made that quote spoke instead. Next time, I should be careful or try to talk to someone who the historical person spoke this quote or not. I’m not sure if it’s Beethoven or someone else who quotes, “To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable.” Or what Albert Einstein says, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” I should be careful if these quotes were actually accurate to the historical records of the people who lived before we were born. Because I believe reading things from the internet is wrong and I’m autistic, so, I should be extremely careful about reading who quoted this instead of knowing the truth about one person who stated this quote. I’m not making a good sentence here, I know, especially making a good punctuation either.
What's your favorite Sherman Brothers song?

Before there was Ringo Starr, there was Cubby O’Brien.
Cubby was known as "One Take O'Brien" for nailing everything on the first take. Practice makes perfect. 2 of his nieces, who I worked with, were studio singers, and they also got the nicknames "One Take O'Brien", for the same reason. Professionalism seems to run through all members of that family. Cubby's dad set a dine example for everyone. There's an interview of him on TH-cam, by Tom Kramer, Cubbys son in law, "102 year old man, drummer Haskell O'Brien" by Tom Kramer.
Very interesting, can't imagine Disney offer the same level of benefits today. You have aged very well!
I was lucky to work there at a unique time. And thank you for the nice compliment!!!
I imagine that when you thought the Mickey doll was the ugliest thing that it went through depression and and had to learn how to smile again

Oh, Jane Ann, thank you for that kind message! I'm so glad you liked the video and so glad you took the time comment! Thanks.
EXCELLENT show, Scott! (I feel like I always say that. 😀) I especially loved all the great details and "hidden" gems in your photos. When I was a kid in the early 70's, my dad worked for Pepsi and we always got the left balcony/stage seat with his "VIP" status. I remember Wally so well, and was convinced those teeth were real. It was a thrill for me to meet him in person a couple of times before he left us. Talk about a Disney Legend! Looking forward to your next show, Lannie Bartlett
Thank you! I always appreciate your support and I'm so happy you enjoyed this video! How neat that you got "VIP" seats.

This was the first time I viewed one of your videos, very nicely done. Cicily Rigdon was a very good friend of mine. I met her briefly while I was an attractions host on the"West side" and University Leader. during Disneylands 25th anniversary. She was fully responsible at that time for the Ambassador program. I was able to travel internationally with here for a few years when I was working for various Anaheim hotels in sales and marketing and we participated in many tourism campaigns with the Anaheim Tourism Bureau promoting Disneyland and the area throughout Australia, and New Zealand, A Disneyland treasure to ber sure her stories and recollections of Walt were all priceless. I am forwarding your video to one of her daughters to insure they see it. Cicily so enjoyed telling the story that she had applied initially for a job at Disneyland shortly after it opened and was rejected, not once but four times, then on the fifth time she finally got a job. She was so excited on the drive home that she accidentally drove through the garage doorl. Her sense of humor was remarkable. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
