I like the iconia episode. The Enterprise fighting a Computer Virus. I don't know if we had that many problems in the late 80s, but many guys got the problem 10 years later when more and more computers were connected to the internet. And most of the time, we do the same they do.😊

Hey, Courtney! Doomed Capt. Varley was played by Thalmus Rasulala who was Kunta Kinte's father in "Roots". Kinte was, of course, played by LeVar Burton. "Kunta Kinte, behold the only thing greater than yourself!", he says as he holds his infant son to a star-filled night sky. He also was featured in two blaxploitation classics: "Friday Foster" with Pam Grier and "Blacula"! Noble Willingham was the Texan gambler. He is known primarily from the long-running TV series "Walker, Texas Ranger" with Chuck Norris. The in-story novel "Hotel Royale" is not a real book. Lol. It's meant to be a trite potboiler replete with insipid tropes. However, the concept is based on the 1932 film "Grand Hotel", a soapy melodrama about rich travelers whose lives intersect at a pre-War Berlin hotel starring Greta Garbo, John and Lionel Barrymore, and a young Joan Crawford!

In the first episode, Thalmus Rasula, who plays Captain Varley, in addition to playing Kunta Kinte's (LeVar Burton) father in Roots, was the hero in the movie, Blacula, was Raj's and Dee's father in What's Happening, and in one of his final roles, was the police captain in New Jack City. In the second episode, Noble Willingham, who plays Texas here, was CD in Walker, Texas Ranger. He actually took over the role after the pilot. Sam Anderson, who's the Assistant Manager, was Balki's, Larry's and Harriet Winslow's newspaper boss in Perfect Strangers, and also the villainous Holland Manners during the first two seasons of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer spinoff, Angel. Jill Jacobson (she passed on December 8, may she Travel In Peace), who plays Vanessa, was all over TV since the mid-1970s and will appear again in the Star Trek franchise. In her obituary headline, they have her listed as a Star Trek actress. It seems that whenever an actor or an actress passes who has appeared in either the Star Trek franchise, the Star Wars franchise, or both at some point, their obituary headlines list it as a highlight in their career, even if it's a small appearance.

Fermat's Last Theorem was solved less than five years after this episode aired... It's one of the times Star Trek made an assumption about the future that didn't come true...!

The late Christopher Collins, who played the Klingon Captain Kargon, voiced two of the most iconic villains of the 1980s: Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe and the opportunist Starscream in The Transformers. You can hear both at times in his performance.

I like the ideas in CONTAGION but... It's very meh overall. I know THE ROYALE gets hate but, I don't know, I thought it was a good TOS styled TNG early seasons episode that works.

I'm glad you liked The Royale, it suggests you will likely love a certain episode of DS9 which i love, but i aren't certain too many others do. Obviously i won't give details, to quote a person from a different sci fi show, who is called River Song, 'spoilers'.

Hey Courtney, I figured you would like "The Royale" episode it was a nice fun departure for the usual episodes. No hostile Klingons, sneaky Romulans or the Enterprise on the verge of destruction. Just an off the beaten path episode that have our favorite characters trying to escape what could be from poor Col Richney's perspective was an "Eternal Nightmare" For a second I thought Picard's little math fixation was going to put you off from this episode LOL! The next time Q shows up on the Enterprise maybe Picard can ask him that math question since no one in the Federation appears to be able to solve it LOL!

Todd Matthews was the name of a real life novelist, however, "Hotel Royale" would have been written in the future as it relates to the time ST:TNG aired. Real author; fictional book. The opening of the book, "It was a dark and stormy night", is a trope for bad openings, however, Madeline L'Engle began her novel "A Wrinkle in Time" with those words, and might be the only successful book that starts that way.

This episode is one of my favorites of the season. S2 has a darker tone to it compared to the first season. We just watched their sister ship blow up with all hands gone in the opening teaser. We even see the saucer section deteriorate in front of the Enterprise, meaning all those families are gone. Yeah, perhaps having families onboard a starship wasn’t a great idea, Star Fleet. Then, they throw in the threat of the Romulans right before the opening credits. Season two is a different animal than S1. It’s going to get darker this season, trust me. Once again, they wrote another good scene for Wesley, trying to improve his character from season one. I think they’re doing a great job. Not sure Wil Wheaton was as thankful for the writers trying to improve his character. We’ll get to why that is later. Was the virus trying to keep Geordi from getting to the bridge? First Geordi gets shocked and then Data gets shocked. Nice callback. Carolyn Seymour, the Romulan Commander, is great here, and this actress will return. Picard's being into ancient cultures is a character trait that will be a recurring thing for him for now on. Nice to see it begin here. “Not I think today, Commander.” Best line ever. Note that the Transporter chief is in this episode. Not saying why, but take note. It might be important in the future… Also, the Iconian thing might return in a sequel episode. Maybe…

However that was the same week i was playing poker in the casino and just missed out on £400,000 from the bons pot of a Roal Flush (i was missing the King of Hearts, which the croupier dealt himself. When he saw how close i was he called his supervisor over to show him, who was equally stunned.

Evacuation may not necessarily be via the transporter. There are "life-boat" styled escape pods for a total evacuation in a hurry.

When Will suggested evacuation to Deanna, for one thing he said it was only to keep them occupied. Also it's likely if it had been necessary they would have used escape pods instead of the transporter.

This is a lot like that like the Mr. a TOS episode in the library, but the difference is they went inside the planet different time before the supernova so they lived on the same planet in different time. She lived out their lives in different time so by the time the planet goes supernova there’s nobody on the planet. They’re inside the planets past, but this portal took them across the galaxy to a distant world, not inside their own world time. Which is a very good thing. Yes, the novel discussing I don’t think was ever written unless unless the fan of Star Trek did it later, but I don’t think anyway I thought it was basically every selling of casino Royale, the bond book without James Bond, and of course, the casino part of Casino Royale the sad part about the poor, poor astronaut friend who probably got there via wormhole or a Q was doing something nearby and snapped his fingers accidentally and sent him to that place or some alien program or something. He was abducted and transported to that place but the poor guy he could’ve you know he could’ve won the hotel if you won that much money, but there was no way for him to get out of his ship was destroyed so he couldn’t escape anyway, even if he could buy the place and leave the casino. There’s no way for him to go ahead no ship to go to. I’m sorry I can’t believe you just that you’d be so depressed. I mean I understand. It’s a bad novel, but you know as long as they have food and drink for you to eat and drink and you know you entertained why can’t you make friends with the aliens or you’re like Mr. Texas over there? I don't know how serious Riker was about evacuating the Enterprise. I think he was just using Troi's own advice against her and giving her something to keep her busy. And sorry, but I won't watch The Royale again. Did not like.
