    I'm in the UK and I used to work for small companies but now I've worked for the big companies, you're right, they just want a revolving door of employees. I think I was told that the reason is, is that it makes them look like a good employer that gives a lot of people jobs...besides other things. They win some poxy award that they've created and the managers can attend award dinner nights. You're right about benefits too, old timers have entitlements and they want to phase that out. definietly correct with that one.

    Hit 65% on my first 3 days of solo picking at the new warehouse. It's hilarious because they want us to do zone stacking but every single picker I've spoken to on the floor has pulled me aside and said just make sure it's on the right pallet and you're fine. While I was getting my battery changed I actually had one guy come over, tell me he was going to show me something, and then restack my pallet for me ignoring the zone stacking thing. I'm not sure if this is just the way they do things on the floor or it's warehouse vs drivers but whatever!

    I quit 2 weeks ago. I was in a teamsters as well and this couldnt be more accurate. There was so much toxicity and I refuse to put a job over my mental health and family. You’re absolutely spot on, we get pushed and stepped on especially the good workers. There is little a contract this September and we were suppose to get a huge raise, historically big. Money is great but when it gets to the point in which that is the sole purpose of you going to the job, its gets depressing real fast. Knowing the company is making millions while we scrape away for$0.001 to their 1.00$. I had just returned from bereavement leave for my grandfather’s funeral and I got a warning when i returned for my performance. Even though all of the days weren’t considered into my 6 week avg. I hit -5 avg and i was suppose to be @-4( 100%=0, -5=95%, -20=80%) its a difference of minutes and with everything considered in selecting its not far off at all. Of course management doesn’t give a flying fuck about their staff so the crack the whip and say get back to work go faster. I could go on for days of the reasons i left. 1. Lack of equipment or broken unsafe to use equipment. 2 lack of safety precautions( pallets of product would fall from 7-10 level high) with 1,000’s of pounds falling from any height is enough to kill someone on impact. 3 they run super high standards (250-300+ cases per hour depending upon orders) which make it IMPOSSIBLE to not get injured. 4 work night shift, sleep during the day, have no time for yourself or family 5 mental health- isolation can lead to depression, premature mortality, increased stress, heart disease and stroke, etc its terrifying how bad isolation is. 6 unfulfilling- there is really no sense of purpose, sure selection allows the food to get to stores and for people to eat but in reality its a catch .22 the majority of the food thats sent out is excess anyway. Its either close to expiring, gets damaged before it can be sent out, gets damaged en route, expires on the self of the store and thrown out anyway. 7. NOTHING EVER CHANGES. A union steward had been in that same building for 38 years, he and I graduated from the same high school, and the few problems i discussed with him have been the same for the entire time he’s worked there and Im sure previous to him as well. As I said before i could go on forever about why I left haha im just BEYOND relieved to finally be done throwing cases.

    It takes a lot of guts to leave a teamster warehouse, admire you for doing it. I would feel trapped as you said, with the pension and what not. However, who knows what'll happen in the future and if we'll be even able to collect on that pension. My mindset is like how I see social security, if it's there it's a bonus and not something I'm going to rely on.

    This always happed at USF & Sysco yearly. The company would eliminate bids and force morning guys back to night. Then at some point during mid year they'd open up bids again due to lack of man power on mornings.

    Tim man, you help a lot. From a cooler selector pov, I see guys that are selecting with me on Monday cussing under their breath going through it, to dropping pallets for me to pick from on Tuesday. I can see they like dropping better, but are forced to work at a 140% selecting otherwise. Let those guys that have been there for a significant amount of time “select” what they do, day in and day out.

  • @johnamaral9534
    @johnamaral9534 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hey tim. Excellent video as always. I think your company is well aware of what it's doing. I think they're phasing out the, "old timers" with the out of this world standards. Now, they have to hire on news people at lower wages, longer times to get the benefits. Eventually, the union will get phased out all together. Or as the saying goes, Both the company and union will be in bed together.... I used to work for a supermarket chian in the warehouse and I ran into a guy I used to work with and he said, a bulk of the senior guys left for whatever reason/s, The shop stewart retired and the company seen an opening and now they slashed the union benefits. Take my word on this, Companies are willing to let the employees live in the sun for a bit while knowing that the companies will have the last word on the subject.

When you say tilt up on a heavy load, is that right before your forks touch the wood? And how does that help instead of going straight up? Wont it lean? Sorry, never done fork before.

    Sometimes we have no choice about the cardboard. For whatever reason Food Lion requires there to be cardboard in between different products on their pallets or we get fined like $250 per pallet. So I've had picker pallets go out that had like 10 layers of cardboard on them because they were 10 different products on that pallet. Food Lion is nuts.

    • @TheWarehouseSeries
      @TheWarehouseSeries 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is crazy! I understand cross-contamination but fined 250 is nuts

    • @BenjaminHeyman
      @BenjaminHeyman 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheWarehouseSeries it gets better. I'm sure you've dealt with a product called topo Chico, which is like mineral water. It comes from the manufacturer on brown block pallets. Food Lion insists that we send it to them on grade A pallets. So we have to push every single pallet of topo Chico on to either the blue pallets or the grade A pallets or once again it's a $250 fine per pallet. Thankfully I recently switched to night picking so I don't have to deal with that anymore but it was crazy.

    Need advice. I'm noob in the warehouse, i work in beer warehouse and there, we are trained to always build on the pallet in the pyramid style, but often times i run into a problem where i end up with big gaps that i have nothing in the order to fill, so i flip the stakes to fill the space, but this later causes another empty space on different side of the pallet and often times have nothing in the order to fill it, so i end up building taller pallets. The manager of the warehouse is also with 20 years of experience, but he only cares about the orders being done and doesn't really care to teach newbies like me how to be space efficient and to build stable pallets, so i end up watching videos like this. I also make that mistake of playing tetris when building the pallet, and often i can't figure out how to use all the space without leaving a hole that later tears my stretch. When for example, i have in the order 20 stakes of 2 liter bottles of beer, i can build a solid base, but when i have 40 items in the order, all 1 to 3 stakes, and with different shapes and sizes, it is difficult for a beginner to figure out how to build a stable, space efficient pallet, when no one teaches you how to start and what to put on what. I often times end up putting whatever smaller thing fits best on the bigger thing and later i just wrap it more with the stretch wrap to keep it stable. We use Euro pallets, don't know if this is relevant. Thanks for the tutorial.

      @boemyricks6492 being on the correct side of the jack when coming up to the slot, getting on ur jack just to go 2 slots up when u could if walked it, all that time adds up

      Could you clarify what you mean by positioning the jack, say a slot is on the right side? For example, are you suggesting moving the jack closer to the right side and positioning it a certain number of inches ahead?

      Ya heard that term before, why do trainers think If u played tetras u can stack. Lol. I been shown how they do it but not actually been instructed how to stack properly. All I been told is it's like tetras. I always have to be quick. Hope your videos help me to do a better job then my trainer.

    I started at Sysco not too long ago and honestly that job really isn't that hard, but the damn stacking is getting to me so bad. Stuff keeps falling over and can't get past 50%. Will they fire me after 90 days if I can't hit 100%?

    When I was a new selector at my old warehouse, I only got 2 days training and right when i was on my own I seemed to always get big orders, 250-300 cases which meant a lot of canned stuff and spaghetti sauces. Since my trainer didn't teach me anything I had to figure it out for myself and let me tell you i dropped a lot of pallets in my first 4 to 5 weeks, I had little trouble with the detergent orders and the water orders, but the canned goods and dog food was a nightmare.
