Ranking the Best States in America (After 4 Years of Van Life)
After almost 4 years and traveling 48 states in the van, Reed and I are sharing our favorites, but to make it interesting, we are guessing each other's 5 favorites. Do you have any guesses about which state will be our number one?

i live an hour from waterton. so nice to see people enjoying our little slice of heaven!
Also, vote for Chandra as Liberal leader!
Hello, we just found your channel! We live on Vancouver Island, originally from the Vancouver area. It is so nice to see people enjoying our wonderful part of the world we are thankful everyday for living amongst nature. One of the people commenting mentioned the bakery in Ladysmith, they are wonderful! All the best to you both, Lisa and Tiana.
Hey I live on Bowen Island🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦So glad you enjoyed it! We have awesome ocean swimming.
Great video! Now I'm planning on heading to LA for sure! Quick question. I have a Dodge Ram Promaster 2500 and I'm looking for places to overnight near or in LA. If you can help me figure that out, I'd appreciate it. You can message me if you don't want to mention it here. Thanks!
Ruffles plain chips. The only one.
Why do Americans like to make it sound like visiting BC and Alberta is all of Canada? Canada is larger than the US. So many great places
So happy you enjoyed your time in Canada. Please come back and see us again. Visit us on the east side next!
Flashing green is usually and advance green or delayed green to allow for left turns before the solid green allows through traffic. Flashing green lights in or on a vehicle are volunteer firefighters responding to and emergency and you must yield the right away like any other emergency vehicle,
Glad that you two enjoyed your time in both of these areas (Vancouver, Banff, Canmore) I've lived for significant periods of time in each area and now reside in Calgary - but the areas are definitely special, I liked the way you laid it out ;)
I lived in Cape breton, university in Halifax, born in Montreal, lived in QC, Ottawa, Calgary, Banff, Canmore and Fort Mcmurray. Now I collect pepper sprays at the border between Quebec and Vermont. We're chill and welcoming but don't piss us off. There's a reason our national past time is the most violent team sport in the world.
Try Niagara Falls area
Don't forget Niagara Falls in Ontario and Northern Ontario cottage country for sure! Or Algonquin Park. Spectacular! If you want to go waaaay north in Ontario, do the drive around Lake Superior. Nothing beats it!
Welcome to Canada! Best chips? VICKIES!
Thank you for visiting Canada,Please Come back soon
BC and Alberta is only "part" of Canada.
Flashing green light mean traffic allowed to go straight and left turn, for left turn only when there is no oncoming vehicles.
You voted Trump go home and stay there!
Go to a hockey game.
Banff desperately needs a vowel. Some drunks Scots decided to play a practical joke when the area was named. "Baniff" would make more sense. Then there's "Winter-peg" in Manitoba.
In Ontario, I think flashing green traffic light means you are cleared to turn in all directions
Travel east to west, when you start to see the Rocky Mountain range off in the distance you'll feel like you're coming home.
Killarney Provincial Park. Check out Topaz Lake. Pristine and unexpected. Quartzite low mountains surrounded this gem of a lake.
I'm so glad (and not surprised) that my home grounds pleased you so much. I haven't lived anywhere else but I've visited a few other places, including south along the coast, east as far as Detroit, down to KC and across back to the west. Vancouver Island: Tofino is lovely but there's a bit of a sleeper at the Horne Lake Caves. We toured the Jenolan Caves (Blue Mountains, NSW) in Australia once, and the Horne Lake Caves made me wonder if they looked like what Jenolan looked like in their very early youth. There may be some ice fishing in BC and Alberta but I think it's a much bigger thing in Manitoba and Ontario as far as Georgian Bay (north and east of Minnesota and Wisconsin where I hear they do a LOT of that sort of thing)? Looking at the other comments, looks like Albertans do it too. Go figure. I'm still learning... For perspective on a couple of things... Williams Lake is about 5.5h drive out of Vancouver -- Fort St. John is more than twice that and you still have 1000mi to get to Whitehorse, YT let alone Alaska, so be prepared for some long, LONG, loney roads (wth all the need to Be Prepared [think the "mountain goat" from Hoodwinked]). And overall 1/10 of the population you have in the States (how we usually refer to our southern neighbours), so lots of places where people don't come by much -- but the people that DO come by know how lonely the land can be so they'll probably be more than willing to help. Consider biking from Victoria to Campbell River and back -- most of the Island Highway is a high speed road but the shoulder is usually wide and safe -- and there are lots of places where you can get off the beaten track to get safer, or just more picturesque; e.g. at the south end I'd divert to Brentwood Bay and catch the ferry to Mill Bay. And try Denman and Hornby Island out, too. There are some avid "Ultimate" players on Lasqueti I hear. The back country, off the main highway on either side, between Clinton and Williams Lake is full of places to visit, each one lovely in its own way. Crossing Canada: bear in mind that Vancouver to Toronto is about the same distance as LA to New York -- and you still won't be to Montreal, the Maritimes or Newfoundland yet. Sorry, we're kind of a big place. But leave your guns and pepper spray at home and you'll have no trouble coming back. all the best in your travels.
As one who has spent most of my 72 yrs in AB,, I would add a few suggestions. First, book a few nights in Shadow Lake Lodge. Walk in is +/- 9km, great meals and accommodations, and captivating stories from those who work here. If you are lucky, you will see the owner leading a horse back pack train resupplying the kitchen w food and wine, or bears on the trail. Worth every penny. PS another response encourages visitors to spend some time between Vancouver snd Banff. I recommend you do so, but take the back roads. Consider the Kelowna/ Oliver wine country, Jasper, and lakes around Nelson. Much much more. David
Welcome Back again.
Glad you came, try to make it to Toronto, then the East Coast.
I have lived in Canada for over fifty years - originally an American - and have loved every minute of it. Your video of Vancouver, Banff etc is very nice, but you, like so many Americans - and Canadians as well - fail to appreciate the vastness of the country and the diversity of the cultures that it embraces. Absolutely travel East …. All of the way to Newfoundland - it is thousands of miles - but do not ignore the North. Happy travels
And we have a stronger beer Glad to have you aboard we are proud to be Canadian and welcome our southern neibours This is from Quebec the french part of our paradise
You guys pass for Canadians. No one would know you are American unless you identified yourself - or insisted in living in your van at -20C during the winter.
How do yall deal with racism in some of the remote areas of the country? Denise do you feel unsafe in certain places? What do yall do when things get scary (racially)?
Colorado is obviously number 1, glad that you both came to the correct conclusion 😉
all the tourist go to places. very crowded.
You are welcome 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love the East coast of Canada.
Am Canadian. Don’t like all dressed.
I saw bears in Waterton too. From Ontario
Tortillas are not a common thing in Canada, we don't have the latino population you have in the US...
I have lived in Bc fof 8 years and i have no idea what the flashing green of all light at a 4 way intersection means. I have only seen that in Vancouver
If you got to Banff and Lake Louise you should have gone up to Jasper. Just as beautiful as Banff ( different but equal ) but a little more laid back atmosphere.
Hi! We drove icefields parkway up to Jasper but a lot of Jasper was closed off because of the huge wildfires during the summer. What we were able to see was beautiful though!
You will love Quebec, the province and the city… You have to see .Charlevoix, l’Estrie, Gatineau, Les Laurentides… Welcome!
Snowboarding or skiing 🎿 in Whistler. That's where I'd go.
Which city in Colorado are u from?? We’ve delivered to alot out there. Been to Rocky Mountain national park 3 times in the past 5 years black canyon and telluride was cool and the small town that starts with a u i can’t remember it but it’s on tbt million dollar highway
Trucking 5 years now with my bf .before that we did a criss country trip from fl to Seattle for an Alaska cruise the down to California and back to Fl for a 2 month trip. We’ve been to every state except Delaware and Hawaii. Been to alot of national parks. My favorite is a big toss up kinda I use to say Montana for sure but after traveling a lot more through the states I’m thinking Utah and Colorado. I lived in Florida all my life I’m 38. I tell people back home u got to get out west it’s amazing.
Stay off the TransCanada Freeway because it's boring. It's great to get places fast but is boring. Even Saskatchewan is interesting just south of the freeway. Also Newfoundland is a must. The most unusual place I've ever been in Canada is Iqaluit in the North. However it's crazy expensive to go there.
If you like Banff but not the crowds, check out Jasper. It's temporarily in bad shape due to the wildfire but they will rebuild.
Tofino, BC and where we are from Prince Edward Island
Thank you for sharing your journey to B.C. and Alberta. Lots more to see up here and welcome back to Canada when you can get back!
I was blessed to have been born in BC. It really is gorgeous. I've lived from Northern B.C.to the sunny Okanagan which offers 70 miles of Lake frontage.Lived in the Lower mainland & the island. Can't believe I have yet to visit the the Kootenays. It's on my bucket list. Been to Ontario. Its beautiful there as well, The fall offers so many gorgeous colors. I've traveled parts of the states from Washington, Cali. LA, then east to Buffalo onto N.C. & S.C. but It's nice to come back home to Beautiful B.C. How's that saying go? No place like home. :) Glad you had the chance to travel in Canada. Your welcome back anytime.
Have always lived in central Alberta. Spent lots of time in the US over the years but with the exchange rate and political problems don't go there anymore. We haven't seen all of Canada but Niagara Falls was great and recently Nova Scotia was too! My relatives were miners near Fernie BC years ago and I have relatives in the Vancouver area.
