    Going close to 1 year with my 2 DAP, initally thought it was too small (coming from a larger ruck sack bag) but turned out to be just the right size. I did add a small bag on the sides to the 2 DAP for my keys, changed the zippers with plastic tabs,, and added strap fasteners. Also added something bright to the velcro part. Helps me to identify my black bag easier and look less 'military' So far it holds up the same almost new. I tend to chuck lots of stuff in my bag on trips but it has hold up well regardless of weight. No signs of tearing/wear yet. Worth the money imo.

    Great review, thank you for this! Never heard of Vanquest before seeing this. I currently rock the Bellroy Venture 2.5L (your sling of the year) but over the holidays got a pair of Rayban Metas which have a hard shell and now the Bellroy is a bit tight to fit my EDC. I love love the Bellroy, but with all my gear it's just too tight. How much bigger is the Dendrite large compared to the Bellroy? Looking at the dimensions, it appears partially negligble (about .5" wider and .6" higher)? I am looking for a relatively small factor like the Bellroy, just a tad bigger. Thanks!

    • @Pack_roam
      @Pack_roam 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! They’re pretty close in size, including depth. The Dendrite seems slightly bigger, but I’m not sure this is going to be the way to go if you’re already stuffed out in the Bellroy Venture. I put my hard case in there, and I think it accommodates it better than the Venture Ready, but I’m not sure what else you’re loading out. Maybe the TEKKO 6, but that’s significantly bigger, or the Bellroy Lite sling mini? That’s 4L. Or the Code of Bell X-POD II? That’s still a favorite, and it expands/contracts based on loadout.

    How does this bag compare to the GR2 26l? I’m primarily concerned with which of the two bags can hold more and still fit in a personal item sizer .

    • @Pack_roam
      @Pack_roam 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Technically, I don’t think either of them fit personal item size limits. I primarily fly United for work travel, and they definitely both exceed their “personal item” size limits. From experience, I’ve never had an issue getting the CTB26 under seat and it’s 9” deep. I don’t have a 26L GR2, but it’s spec’d at 7.25” deep. I would think it’d fit under a seat just fine. The 40L GR2, on the other hand, will NOT fit under a seat fully loaded out. Learned that the hard way.

  • @Jesper-bl2ns
    @Jesper-bl2ns 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great review. I've had the GR2-40l for a few years and it's ridiculously good in all aspects. I'm 6,6 & 220lbs - and fits perfectly on me. It's comfortable to wear even on hour long hikes. Granted it's fairly expensive and by far the most expensive backpack I've ever bought. But after 3 years of hard use it still looks new except that it doesn't feel so stiff as when I got it.

    As always, hugely late to the party. I’m really liking these and hoping/trying to get one ordered at some point. I’m new to all the different fabrics about these days (when I last looked at this sort of stuff, the choices you tended to have was 500D or 1000D 😂). Just got a MR Dragon 2.0……do you have any reference to how Ultra 800X feels/compares to X50? What were your reasons for picking the 800X and has it lived up to your expectations?

    • @Pack_roam
      @Pack_roam 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ultra is woven, so it feels similar to Cordura but the fibers are smoother, kind of a plasticy feel. Has a bit of krinkle to it but less than most x-pac and way less than dyneema, if you’re familiar with that material. I went with ultra 800 because it’s tough! Very high tear strength and abrasion resistance. I love ultra, and have quite a few bags and slings in ultra. Carryology provides a great description on their GORUCK collab Kaiden 3.0 release article if you search for it on their website. Challenge Sailcloth says Ultra 100 has double the tear strength and almost double the abrasion resistance as 500D Cordura and Ultra 800 tear and abrasion numbers are significantly higher than 100.

      Thanks for watching! That’s a great question. With the ROBIC, the 45L version is >1.5lbs lighter than the Cordura 45L. The Cordura version is over 5lbs empty! Unless you think you need the abrasion resistance of the Cordura I don’t think it’s worth the extra weight. The Dyneema version is ~3/4 of a lb lighter than the Cordura, heavier than the ROBIC, but I like that material better than the ROBIC. I think I’d go with the Dyneema. Interestingly, it doesn’t look like any of them come with the hip belt anymore? I’ve never actually used mine, but still nice that it came with it.

    According to some of the posts below, not all Goruck 25Ls have the waist belt, which is what I'd wanna get. My question: does the waist belt do a great job of taking the load off the shoulders and transfers it to the hips, which is what good backpacking packs are supposed to do? Thanks!

    • @Pack_roam
      @Pack_roam 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@StollNoel It does, in my opinion, and initially I used it all the time. Now, however, and I might sound like a masochist, I rarely use it because I want the weight on my shoulders. Makes it harder, more upper body muscles engaged. Only time I use it now is if I’m doing inordinate weights, like the 100lb mile, or to keep the ruck in place if I’m adding PT. If you plan on doing any ruck PT, I would definitely consider getting a hip belt.

      @@Pack_roam Thanks for the informative reply. I’m in my mid 60’s and do a 3X weekly barbell compound lifts routine. I also use a vest with 20 pounds to walk the driveway & local woods. My shoulder-weighted vest is comfortable with the 20 but I won’t want to add more weight. This Goruck with the hip-loader looks like it could fit the bill but the price is prohibitive. Alternatively, I’d like to be able to strap a 25 or 30 lb plate to a stable frame that allows the weight to be carried either on the shoulders or hips, as the Goruck does. I’d really appreciate some specific suggestions. Thanks again!

      @@Pack_roam true but ultralight hiking your base packweight can be low but food and water still means that 15-30lbs is considered acceptable to put in a lightweight pack. Also, ULA is not topping any charts there now. Six moon designs for example does. And their ADC harness is a total different level. Since carry on weight can be limited in certain areas but lowest would be 7 kg. Your harness should be all day comfort at 7 kg imo.

  • @houserhythm
    @houserhythm หลายเดือนก่อน

    I actually love a backpack that curves a little, feels like it's hugging my back. I also love the minimal organisation, it's just enough for someone who uses cubes & pouches. The compression straps inside I never used, always felt they were in the way, so I ended up cutting them out (more weight saving, yay! 😅). I don't mind not having a luggage passthrough, since I always travel with just one bag, but I would have liked if it could stand on its own. And the low weight isn't because of the Ultra, the Robic and Ecopak variants weight only slightly more; it's the fact that it has no liner, no internal padding and only minimal padding on the back/straps, not many zippers and also no chunky #10. All that being said, the GR1 or GR2 are much more comfortable for carrying heavy loads. But my usual load for the Dragonfly is ~7kg (15lbs) and that feels super comfortable. PS: might have mentioned this is USA made and the price is REALLY good for a quality USA made bag, with premium materials. PPS: I'm sad the EU distributor for ULA doesn't stock the white Ultra, I find it looks amazing with the grey mesh.

    • @Pack_roam
      @Pack_roam หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely agree padding, zippers, etc., are all factors keeping this bag lightweight. Probably more so than materials, but material choice is a factor as well. Ultra, Robic and Ecopack are all lightweight materials, which is why ULA Equipment, specializing in ultralight gear, uses them as opposed to coated 1000D Cordura for instance. I had USA Made, in Utah, in my notes and totally forgot to mention it! Thanks for bringing it up though. It is a DAMN good price for a USA Made bag, especially considering materials.

    I guess it's possible that water could get in from the side with crazy horizontal downpours or splashes, but I doubt it. It's a pretty tight fit with zero open space when it's buttoned down. Indeed, the flap pushes down on the pack pretty hard. As for the price, all that taping, sealing, and RF welding costs money. There's a reason only Arc'teryx does it. Granville 25L costs $220, but the Nomin cost $650, and this is a better pack than the Granville. Plus there's the new custom material EG had made for the pack. I've had the EG back-digging issue forever and could never handle any of their packs. On this, the back-digging doesn't exist. Not sure I'll keep it, but it's really interesting. My main concern is that I wish it were just a few liters bigger and the straps were a little wider on the sides for heavy loads. Everything else is nice, and this is coming from someone who has dry bags and rolltops with welded main compartments. The design looks pretty cool, too, and that quick-access area will give you more truly waterproof org than any other similar pack I know of. Not perfect but pretty interesting. Pretty sure if EG could've shaved $100 off the price and still maintain a decent margin, they would've. Just too many labor-intensive construction techniques and materials with this pack IMHO. I'm sure they would've loved to sell this pack for $200.

    • @Pack_roam
      @Pack_roam หลายเดือนก่อน

      I fully intend to test exactly how waterproof it is. I agree, definitely pricey construction. I’m not sure I’ll keep it either, but I do like the overall design and it carries well IMO. Unique and cool and useful for the right person? Definitely.
