    Nice vid. Thx! I'm struggling getting loudness, after my meters are topped out at -.5. I've watched vids, and read some stuff, but its still mystifies me. (Some folks are slower at things than others.)

      One thing to remember is the low end will push your volume up, Without knowing where you are in your journey, if you don't know, Cut low end up to about 80htz from most things that are not the kick and bass, this will give you a lot more headroom to play with and you wont notice any difference in the sound. there are times when there is bass you cant hear on tracks such as snare and keys, and its adding you your overall volume without any sound you can hear.

      @@NoNonsenseMusicTips yeah man, I'm going through some old projects trying to relight that passion, I've only got 2 sets of cans which have profiles for them but it's night and day switching from the adjusted frequencies on the cans to my monitors, it's less of a shock. One thing I needed help with is separating stems. I have a project from a couple of years back which ended abruptly when the laptop I was working on whilst away was stolen, so all I have is an exported mp3 of the track plus some of the vocals. I've layered some extra bits over this but I don't have the pro version of spectral layers so I can't separate all the stems to clean up the mix and get it ready for mixing. Do you have pro ? Or do you know of any other suites that can separate a single track into workable stems ? It would be a massive shame to let this one go

    A lot of these skim over the basics of loud masters, I wouldn’t recommend doing this for all projects, e.g fast compression, you’d want to use your ear and time compression A+R to the tempo of the song, not just say FAST compression and hope for the best. Same goes with HP filtering, without the correct phase just wacking on a HP filter will effect the envelope and phase of your low end. Basic A+R based limiters and compressors, when used incorrectly and set too fast, will cause distortion. Use your ears :)

    Just make it sound how you want it to sound!

    • @NoNonsenseMusicTips
      @NoNonsenseMusicTips 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Always make it sound how you want, make music you will listen to first, but if you want to have it loud there is some things that will help, the biggest one, being, control the low end, it makes so much more room for volume

    • @oscillatorstorm
      @oscillatorstorm 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NoNonsenseMusicTips You don't necessarily need to mix audio loudly, as streaming platforms automatically adjust the volume. Having a prominent low end and pronounced transients isn't problematic if they contribute positively to the overall sound. However, many contemporary tracks lack dynamic range and exhibit an unnatural tonal balance, often influenced by trends promoted on platforms like TH-cam. Applying a low-pass filter to the entire track can introduce audibly muddy pre-ringing artifacts. While compression may not always be necessary for a well-mixed track, it can be useful for managing peaks and ensuring consistency. It's ultimately the consumer who determines the playback volume, and overly compressed tracks may prompt them to lower it. Therefore, mastering should primarily focus on enhancing harmonic richness, stereo width, and clarity while preventing distortion, including intersample peaks.

Sometimes it makes sense for a non confident speaker who may stutter or struggle with pronunciation, and pauses or says erm a lot. Don't just look at the surface of something that could have a deeper explanation. Would you stop listening to a person who lost their voice and had to use a machine to speak, such as Hawkins. He was a smart person but his worth of knowlage was not any less because it wasn't his real voice, the brain and ideas were all still that person. Each to their own, I guess, sometimes the Ai makes more sense, especially if you are not as confident in front of a mic or camera, or you don't get the time to record a voice over, its more about information than the voice delivering it., but thank you for the comment, I do take them in to account, I do try and mix between my own voice and the AI, if its quick fire tips like this, its easier to use AI where as longer videos and the shorts, I use my own voice. I appreciate your comment and honesty

      @@NoNonsenseMusicTips Can AI recreate real analog sound?

    • @NoNonsenseMusicTips
      @NoNonsenseMusicTips 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I have seen some amazing things done by AI, if something can be recreated with binary, it can be created with ai, we have many vst plugins that mimic the sound of analogue, if they can do that I'd say so can AI, I don't think ai will take over many aspects of music creation because that takes the heart away, but for some people ai is an aid to their lives.

    On Reverb, follow the Reverb plugin with an EQ with a low cut around 400-600 Hz and a high cut around 6-8 kHz. This really focuses the Reverb and removes any low end which can wash the vocal out.

    Tip 5 doesn’t apply if you went for a top down mixing approach I guess?

    • @NoNonsenseMusicTips
      @NoNonsenseMusicTips 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This in a way is true, A top down mix going from a group buss down to the individual tracks is a great way to prepare the mix for master, but there are a few other things that could be done such as Tip 1 and 3, referencing the mix and bouncing a good quality mix. I will do a video on top down mix also, thank you for the comment and information

      Good point, sometimes with high pass, it can cause some phasing issues too, a shelf is a better option in many cases

    Subscribe 🎉❤,i just wanne know whether the pro used ambient in the mastering session,and where can we put tape plugin in the master bus 😮 One last question can you please tell what's the best effect chain for mixing and mastering 🙏 TIA...

    • @NoNonsenseMusicTips
      @NoNonsenseMusicTips 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the Sub. I am not sure what you mean as Ambient? So for a tape emulation,, Saturation, You can put more towards the end of the bust to gain some colour to your mix/master, I generally place it before the last set of Limiters/Soft Clipper, Always remember to use them for their colour and not to boost the volume, do this by gain matching the before and after. to start with a mix and master chain, will differ, on a final bus of a mix I don't add anything, I will mix into a Limiter in the session, then remove it before master. but as a chain in any thing mix, master, or a single channel, you want to clean the signal first, make sure that you are doing your clean up eq first, generally a lot of eq subtraction, then a compressor to glue, like in the video, then another eq for colour if needed, generally where you will do additive EQ, and then from there tap saturation, soft clip, then into a limitor at the end, the soft clip will take some of the strain from the final limiter. don't be afraid to look at preset chains, like in the waves studio verse and the pre-sets or ai generated presets from things like ozone, the main thing to remember is, it takes time to understand why we use the tools, and we always have to question, Do I Need It on the chain? over time you will notice small changes and even smaller changes the more you keep going Every 2 weeks I will be doing a longer form video more in depth of a topic, I will do a mix chain one next
