Fascinating insight into the far reaching impacts of a heart breaking policy. Unintended consequences . . .

IMO the "ICK" factor in ghost marriages rivals the Mormon Church (The Church of Latter-day Saints) practice of "baptizing" the dead.

I really only support it if a couple was engaged before one dies. China needs to get out of the 1300's and just going off and marrying some dying girl to your dead son for 'your fweelings' is weird and creepy and next level predatory and disturbing

WOW! I can't imagine what being "auctioned" off like while dying would be like. It would make for an interesting story to see it from the perspective of the dying person - cultural context and all. Great video!

If months or years can pass before the family of the deceased finds a suitable post-mortem fiancé, I guess people who died unmarried are denied a formal funeral ceremony and not allowed into the family grave, but are still cremated or interred inside a cemetery? I hope they are given a gravestone or plaque and not just buried in the backyard like a pet goldfish while waiting for an afterlife partner

I love this but please use BCE and CE rather than BC and AD for dating. Thanks

If it makes the grieving families feel better, why not? Maybe if it were made highly illegal (and enforced) for money to change hands, it might alleviate the kickbacks and the murders.

I mean… if both families are okay with it, I don’t see a problem. Now the shady practices are a big no no.

I have heard of these, before. I saw a funeral pyre, on a cooking channel, in memory of their mentor. It was beautiful.

So much to chew on here. I honestly can't give an opinion one way or the other. It's definitely not as easy as telling people to get with the times.

The specifics are totally different, but parts of this reminded me of Mormon posthumous baptisms, where a living person gets baptised as a proxy for someone who wasn't baptised in life. Otherwise the dead can't enter the Kingdom of God. I think someone even got baptised on Hitler's behalf.
