Hey thanks for sharing. As a previous GT350 owner I can relate to this experience. I bought new 2017, gen 1 voodoo went in 2019. Replaced with gen 2. Then drove it another 4 years. When the factory power train warranty expired I paid to extend it through Ford. Not a car you want to own out of warranty, or if you do just be ready. Alllllll that being said, incredible car. I will most likely buy another one after I’m done with my 911. If the motor blows up I’ll fix it, if it blows up again? I’ll fix it again, and again, IDGF, the car is that good and lives up to the hype. There is no doubt in my mind that in 10-20 years you will see low mileage examples crossing the block at Barrett Jackson for a quarter million or more, the cars are that special.

I got a new zero mile 2022 GT manual $52,000 msrp with 10k mark up 🤦‍♂️$62,000 total. I was looking at 2017 gt350 that was going for $54,000 at 25,000 miles used. I was afraid the used gt 350 would have problems so I didn’t get it. My 22 gt I got 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and service contract. Plus gap insurance I was pushing $72,000 for a 22 Gt 🤦‍♂️ 3 years later I’m at 46,000 miles with no problems (knocking on wood) Sheez glad I went with a GT premium pp1

I am have a similar mile 2017. Problems glore, Will never ever sell it. Its too much fun. I do not recommend as a only car. My problems are mainly due to fact dealerships don't see many, and I do track day things. I also have a 2020 gt350R When it runs right you will fall in love when you are trying to find a issue thats so bizzare it makes you want to rip your hair out. In my xp major problems will happen early under 12k miles. Its a oppion but I wouldn't buy one that HASN'T been tracked. They seem to have more major issues when babied. The 2020 I got had 3800 miles on it and smelled like a new engine. Biggest advice let the oil temperature and coolant temperature come up before driving.

  • @kpxkrnkidx

Personal story here. I had a total engine replacement in my GT350 as well, but I am certain the original owner did not properly break the vehicle in. It would eat a lot of oil, and after 3 oil tests Ford gave me a brand new motor under factory warranty. Now it was my turn to break the engine in the right way. 1k miles, no hard pulls. Consistently variable revs, no highway driving, no gooning anything - this was hard to do since the car was meant to breathe. 10k miles later, not a single drop of oil burned. Those piston rings are completely seated. I hate to say it, but it is highly likely the person you bought this car from did not have the patience to properly break this extremely high strung motor in No other issue for me aside, this is an extremely rewarding car if taken care of like any high performance car should be

i have had 2 shelby gt350s i still have one now both first gens. These cars need a proper break in period which requires you to follow the instructions in the manual book and whats even more crucial is warming up the car to the right temperatures before even considering of going full throttle. even in the summer when its plus 30 outside i let the car warm up and it takes around 25 - 30 minutes to fully warm up. most people have not followed these 2 procedures and hence the engine issues. i know gen 1 motors with over 90k miles on them with 0 issues. some people have understood this and their cars run just fine.

I just read the headline and I can tell you from my friends' experiences, absolutely NEVER buy a GT350. Ever. The engine will blow up. It's not a matter of "if", but "when". One of my friend's had a GT350R that spun a rod bearing at VIR and Ford refused to warranty it because, get this, he added Ford Performance rear suspension upgrades! No kidding. He even got Ford Performance to issue a letter saying that the upgrades that he performed did not impact the engine, and Ford STILL refused to fix it! Another friend of mine has a "1 of 37" 2015 GT350R. His engine blew up 2 weeks ago. Never, ever, ever, never ever buy a GT350. Ever.

I wouldn't do it unless that was something you planned to do in long run and you're getting everything cheap. Personally, I have been looking at 03-04 Cobra's, GT500's, GT350's, right now I am stuck on a 2012 GT500 I found for 35k and low miles that's factory down to the mufflers. 2012 GT500's are hidden gems in my book, you get the aluminum block, basically all issues from 07-10 have been worked out with the 5.4. You get 550HP right out of the box, but with basic upgrades, and cams(I want cams) you can have over 600 to tire and get that classic American v8 lope with cams installed... no need for silly ghost cams or trying to do lockout kits to get the lope. Plus, they're very affordable! Basically, same price as a gen3 coyote car with low miles. Also, you swap taillights of a 12 and it looks just like a 13-14, in my book it's win - win.

So, it sounds like you got a beat on GT350. Did you know how many owners had this car before you bought it? It's not uncommon to have some cars with 4 owners before someone buys it! And that is insane! So, the engine was pulled, then I'm sure the techs cocked up the wiring harness, which is why you needed that replaced after. It's really too bad that you had to deal with all this BS! There are a LOT of GT350 owners out there that have no oil consumption or issues with the car. I think you just got a car that was hammer to fuck first, cleaned up super well then you bought it during CoVid when someone evidently unloaded it, to get out from under the huge monthly payment. This is of course pure speculation on my part, but it's what I think, in my opinion. I think the take away for people looking to buy one of these cars is.... To take a hard look at it, do research on what to look for, check for records, look at how many owners the car had and then go from there. Thanks for the video, shame you had to deal with all those problems.

The only issue was there was metal corrosion on the hood that had bubble up on the paint. So they painted the hood before I would except the car. 2 yrs later it happened again on the hood. So then carmax payed to replace the hood. Now 2024 I had to pay to have the whole car painted with only 40,000 miles on it. I absolutely love this car and to me it's worth it.
