Two Doves Bees and Gardens
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ธ.ค. 2019
John & Sarah are beekeepers and gardeners that share their passion for gardening, beekeeping, and growing native plants at their North Texas (D/FW area) homestead. Using permaculture principles and techniques, they strive to combat pervasive grasses, weeds, and vines - while having a strong dedication to soil health and improving the soil.
Join them as they are constantly expanding the gardens - and planting a food forest (with many varieties of fig and other fruit trees). We are passionate about our bee yard, attempting to provide native resources the bees enjoy and can use in their hive - including the use of pollen and nectar producing flowers, shrubs, and trees and share that passion by teaching others what we learn.

Yeah , here to in Little Elm, Texas 👍
Still snowing here… my daughter says it’s supposed snow all night tonight.
Just a morning coffee chat on a snowy morning! It’s so nice to hear from y’all!
It was a full weekend of preparing the garden for the arctic blast we are having in the North Texas area. The temps have fallen into the low 20's (F) and we're actually getting snow. If you would, please give the video a thumbs up above (like the video), comment, subscribe, and share... it really helps us out! Thank You!
You are the first that I've seen to use a French cleat. That is the technique I have been planning on using when I build my trap for this spring.
The French cleat makes it very easy to hang and remove the swarm traps… Thanks for stopping by and leaving the comment.
@@TwoDovesBees yes it is really easy. I've been a cabinet maker/ installer for 40 years. I know their value
Paano umorder
Many people work directly with a local beekeeper to get bees for sting therapy. Bee venom is growing in use and it may be available through more homeopathic practitioners.
if you do one node per cutting youll be a cuttings billionaire.!
No doubt... LOL The cuttings that we used in this video were large and the nodes were quite a distance from each other.
I’ve had great results using this. Will be doing more in the spring. Thank you for the reminder to add it to my list. I did make use of rooting hormone to assist. Great video.
Thank you! We have so many cuttings to do... The plants are just now starting to go dormant - but it's been a bit warmer than usual.
unusually warm here in Ontario. The rain has melted everything. We won’t be ice fishing probably until February again.
Needed this! I have several babies that popped up and need to be moved. Thank you!
I hear you... I have lots of elderberry cleanup to do and many cuttings to still get to. Thank You for watching and commenting. We really appreciate you (and enjoy your videos was well).
The foxes are almost tame in our neighborhood and are out in daylight more and more which is weird and unnatural. One walked across my driveway about 11 am this morning as I was walking to the shop.
We’re losing so much of the fields and farms that we’re seeing more and more of the creatures that many people didn’t even know were around.
@ only because people are feeding them.
Don’t even get me started on that… definitely not a good idea to feed them!!!
Im in north texas as well. Did you direct sow the seeds or transplant them?
This year, we started the seeds in small cow pots and then put them into a raised bed (burying the cow pot with the started plant - which is one of the benefits of using the cow pots). We did that mostly because the raised bed we put them is was brand new- 1st year growing in that bed. Jubilee watermelons are fairly easy growers, and we’ve direct sowed them with great success in the past.
@TwoDovesBees thanks. When did you start them in the pots?
I’ll have to see if we recorded the date (we try to make notes on the things we grow and harvest). I’ll take a look when I get back to the house.
We started them on May 3rd… they took 6 days to germinate… and we put them into the raised bed on May 20th…
@TwoDovesBees thank you
just got into gardening this was really helpful! do you do in person garden tours? i’m in the dfw area as well
Yes… we love meeting people and talking about gardening and sharing what we’re growing and the projects / ideas that are on our lists. Feel free to give us a shout - john@twodoves.com
Sorry, no, i cant see it.
That’s ok… it’s there, but you only get a quick glimpse. It’s in the middle of the video and exits to the right. Thanks for bio and leaving a comment…
Another wild life encounter in our North Texas garden. We could not get closer, but still managed to get a quick glimpse of the fox.
This is an experiment to see if a blackberry cutting will grow from a minimal cutting. The cutting came from a plant that had actually started life upside down. So, we'll see if this will actually grow.
You’re American?
Yes… we are currently living in North Texas
Oh cool so this must be why I cant feel anything after eating Carolina Reapers 😏😉
I only know “the reaper” by reputation… we’ve grown some hot peppers, but haven’t ventured into the super hot ones too far.
It doesnt hurt their intestines?
No… but that’s one of the reasons why we suggest not overdoing the hot peppers. There are many benefits for giving them the peppers - but we only give our chickens a couple of tablespoons for 9 chickens.
I love all the variety you have in your Fall garden. I haven’t been able to grow nasturtiums from seed. I’ve tried Spring and Fall plantings and had no luck. Hope yours grow!
Thank you! Those nasturtiums have been tough… We appreciate you for watching the tour and leaving the comment… you’ve made our day!
New Sub!❤
I've had chickens for 15 years. Never knew this. Excited to give them a little. Thank you!
Thank you so much… welcome!!! We try to keep things as natural and organic as possible. The chickens eat VERY well. 😀
We suggest feeding hot chili peppers in moderation and not too many! The peppers may in fact help with deworming the chickens naturally (much like pumpkin). We wanted to add a little "spice" to this video and we hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for taking the time to give us a tour and teach about all the wonderful plants that can grown in our gardens.
Thank you! We appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment… we always try to share things that work for us - and hopefully helping others in their garden efforts.
I'm on the start of growing blueberries from seed - got the shrivelled blueberries in the freezer right now (stage one!) Thanks for the shoutout. What a lot going on there!
Blueberries from seed… that is ambitious! They are so good and good for you! We’ll be interested to see how your blueberries grow!
We hope you enjoy the garden tour. We would really appreciate a thumbs up (like) the video (it helps us out a bit). Thanks for stopping by!
Another great video my friends - so interesting
Thank You! We appreciate you taking the time to stop by and watching the videos! :-)
@@TwoDovesBees i thumbs up new ones and then put them in watch later when I have time to watch the full video.
@newbeginnings-myeverydaylife Thank You!
checking in
Good morning Dawn… we have a garden tour video coming out in the next day or two… we mention you a couple of times (success from seeds that you sent us). 😀
@@TwoDovesBees going away for respite - will check it out then
We got 4lbs (almost 2kg) of chilies from 2 plant from the seeds you sent us… they were outstanding!
@@TwoDovesBees Awesome.
We hope you have an awesome day!
Great harvest
Thank You Dawn... We just got home from being out of state... So much to get to in the garden! Hope you and Mike are doing well...
If you want nitogen and pottasium mix it with nettles. Potash for fruiting and flowers nitrogen for leafy plants or veg.
Thank you!
Beautiful, look at these muscles… I stay away, thank you. Be ready to protect your chickens…
Thanks Anne… definitely gotta keep an eye out.
Texas Bobcats
They are beautiful… but gotta keep an eye on my chickens…. 😀
Over the years, we've had many wildlife (and animal) encounters in our yard. The latest is this beautiful bobcat. Please give us a thumbs up (like) the video and consider subscribing to our channel. We appreciate you taking a moment to watch!
Helpful tip :)
Thank you! Thanks for leaving a comment!
@TwoDovesBees Your welcome, Have a Great Day
@@TwoDovesBeesI just checked your channel and let me tell you, For a medium sized channel your videos are just Excellent y'know the videos are so fun to watch very cool sometimes informative. You earned a subscriber 。◕‿◕。
Thank you… we try to be helpful and fun… 😀
One of the last steps in growing sweet potatoes. Make'm sweet and enjoy.
You have one of those places that suits all seasons.
Thank You Dawn... We are blessed that we can grow something year round...
@@TwoDovesBees Love and hugs
The sweet potato vines spread to cover about 400 square feet (20'x20') and were in the mulch paths and into the herb bed next-door.
The garden looks great! I know yall have been loving this weather like I have. If only we could have this more often.
Definitely… and we finally got some rain!!! We’ve needed the rain! So many projects that have been put off during the heat. Now we get to work on as many as we can during the nicer weather.
@TwoDovesBees we will definitely be doing the same!
@@ArcoIrisRanch - We've been following your progress in your garden as well... moving the blueberries and fig tree... your garden is looking good with all that you've done!
@@TwoDovesBees Thank you so much. I am hoping to be successful with blueberries like yall are one day. Fingers crossed mine survive the winter! My kids love blueberries.
@@ArcoIrisRanch - we just pulled some out of the freezer and made blueberry muffins yesterday. The acidic soil is the key for the blueberries. 🙂
