Finishing my DIY Home Office: FINAL
This has been a huge project, way beyond what I've done before and what I thought I was capable of! I've lost count how many times I wanted to give up and accept lost money and wasted materials, BUT... I did it!
In this final installment, I add a tonne of detail to finish the project off and make it 'look complete'.
If you guys would like a seperate video on the full cost breakdown, tools used and time invested, just let me know in the comments.
Appreciate you all

Welcome to part one of a new series where I aim to build a home office in time for starting a new job! In this first instalment, I build a drawer cabinet that will double up as a support for a desktop. As with everything I do, it comes with plenty of mistakes that I'm always willing to share. However, I could not be happier with the final result. If you get anything at all from the video, pleas...

I like pallets - they're free! They do however take a tonne of time to get ready to work with. I needed something built quickly, so I spent 3 weeks building a cabinet from sheet material 😏 This is my first cabinet! Follow along as I share my mistakes and successes. Full price breakdown at the end of the video.

It's been too long but, I'm back! Massive thankyou all for the continued support and patience. With the bulk of the construction work done in my home, I'm ready to start with the finishing and I'm bringing you guys along with me! I'm afraid there's not actual woodworking in today's video, just an explanation of where I've been and why I had to take a break from the Tubez! As always, if you have...

Watching this again for obvious reasons although software 🤯🤯🤯 and 90 quid now 😮 I've ordered honeycomb mat and glasses. Hopefully setting up today 😬😬
Thank you for video, natural emotions and cozy atmosphere🙂
You have that for all the reasons (except selling stuff) that I want a drill press but that price..... hmmn
I love the quick and dirty solutions. The only thing I can't figure out is why use a french cleat system if everything is just screwed to the cleats? I'm assuming it comes in handy in other areas. Lord, this is how my grandfather did his shop. He performed miracles in there. I love this old school approach to shop management.
I'm absolutely going to use the 'prototype' tip. Who knows, my husband may begin to believe that I'm competent. "Wow. She really goes the extra mile. I've never spent the time and effort trying out a prototype. I guess that would make the real project more polished." Edit: It doesn't matter that the wall is the same color. It looks *cleaner* and more put-together. Makes a real difference.
These videos have really brought me down to earth and made shop organization and set up seem approachable. Most of the other channels are way out of my league. How does anyone afford tools when they're putting so much money into cabinetry and an heirloom workbench? (Aren't workbenches supposed to be able to tolerate abuse? I don't want to tremble and cry if I screw through a plywood piece and into the bench top or knock a chip out of the top with the slip of a hand planer.) I need to set my shop up fast so I can get WORK done. I don't have time to be too precious about it. I can see putting effort into getting my assembly table level and square and I need things to be strong and stable, but I can't see the point of wasting money on drawer slides and handles for the miter bench or taking a month to customize wall storage with expensive wood and sheet goods. This is my grandfather's way. Function over form 100%. (He did the jar lids screwed under shelves trick.) If it works for you, it's doing its job.
This really helped me more than you know. I've been sucked into one specific design (Proper DIY How to Make Easy Workshop Drawers from 1 Sheet of Plywood with Basic Tools - and about a dozen others), but honestly, this one is simpler, easier to glue up, *uses less plywood*, and actually gets me another inch of usable drawer space side-to-side. For what I need, this really is the way to go. Thanks for helping me stop overthinking this.
Ignore the haters, people spend 3-4 times what you spent on this on a mobile phone. As a hobby tool its not bad priced, i know i will be saving up for one. Thanks for the review, and again there is nothing wrong with admitting on these videos that your not an expert, most of us are not, we just want it as a hobby like you do, and others do.
I like your review Not everyone is an expert, and nothing wrong with admitting your short commins, you got this tool for your unique purposes, and it works for you. Ignore the haters, what you buy is none of there business, and like you said most of us cannot afford these things. But nice to see a non expert buying a tool like this for there purposes, and it works for you. Not everyone is a master carpenter, most of us are in this to learn for a hobby.
What a cracking job mate looks stunning. Now you've a fully operational desk plenty time for us to catch up well hopefully 😮😂. Oh and you never mentioned you hated painting did you? Serious though looks awesome should be well proud 🏴👍
Very nice, great job
Can i engrave knives with this laser?
Great job and end result! Hope you drank a good beer to this success. Not a Heineken again😅
I may have drank a beer of two upon completion... no comment on the brand 🤣
Looks really good BS! The lighting really sets it off.
Thanks mate. So glad I added extra lighting and went with the 'warm' instead of 'day light', looks great with the green
You have done a great job looking really professional 👍
Cheers buddy, this one was a beast of a job!
It does look good, great in fact and I hope it has inspired you to push yourself more. Looking forward to what ever comes next
yes and no!!! It inspired me to take one some more big projects but also made me realise how much I enjoy those little garage builds. Looking forward to mixing it up in the future!
From the colour to design it looks mint.
Cheers buddy, so pleased with it!
Good job mate!
well done the most important is you enjoying using it.
Looks amazing, great job!
Cheers buddy
Goof Job
I'm going to take that as it's written and appreciate it!
Congrats, Ben, it's looking great. As the saying goes, " Fake it till you make it," you certainly did 😂. Hopefully, the new job is going well and you have made good use of your built-in desk area🧐. As alway's buddy 💯% 👍.
Haha that's absolutely my style... sometimes it pays off! Enjoying the new job, thanks. It's nice to be free on weekends for some shop time!
Turned out incredibly well! I love the contrasting colors. The only thing you could do better is to build one in my house. Then it would be perfect.
🤣🤣🤣 you might want to hire a professional if you want it in before 2025! Yeah, I'm glad I went bold on the colours - I don't even really like green 😅
Congratulations! You did it! Are you familiar with the comic strip character Dilbert? No reason, just curious.
No, I'm not. But I'm going to have to do some googling now!
@@justbswoodworking Your tie and office setting reminded me of the comic strip.
That looks great mate. Been a fascinating series to watch. Lots of new skills and you’ve really pushed yourself. Well done, you should be very proud of the result.
Thank you mate. It's been one of those projects that has been a pain in the backside but certainly worth the suffering!
Brilliant
Why, thank you sir!
Maaaate, that looks brilliant. The closeup swooshy in and out camera shots of the finished build really made me chuckle. Great work!
😅 I've had a couple of comments asking for close ups and never know what to do about them... swooshy music was all that came to mind! Cheers mate
Love it mate the only thing I would say that might look better is if you're going to wear a tie ditch the T shirt and go for something more formal like a vest. Oh and you nailed the build (see what I did there)? Keep it up fella
🤣🤣That's a great shout, shold've rocked the vest! appreciate you mate
REALLY great end result buddy. The whole project looks fantastic and you should definitely be proud of yourself. It's been a joy to watch the whole process and I'm happy to be part of your 'weirdo' family! Looking forward to your next projects 👍
haha what a family to be in! Looking forward to doing a few smaller proejcts now this is done. Already got a few ideas in the pipeline! Cheers mate
Absolutely cracking build, watched the full series as you released them and I think it's turned out great.
As this is your bread and butter, that means a lot! Cheers buddy
Great job! Been fun following your progression. The rule I've come to embrace when dealing with trim or fascia against drywall: "Do your best and (paintable) caulk the rest!" :-)
Thats a rule I've come to live by with this renovation! Cheers mate
Incredible work. Love it ❤
Cheers buddy
Yeah!!
Looking good though! Glad youre enjoying using it!
Ive just seen this and haven’t got time to write a full comment but ill be back 😊 O ya I’ve just subscribed 🎉
Makes me laugh because you watch all these clamp rack storage builds and they dont use a clamp for their jigs as they cut or drill. Then ssy safety first...
"Is there no deviation? Is the drill accurate even when drilling through a 5 cm thick wooden board, from one side to the other, including at the exit point?"
For my purposes, yes. I haven't got the tools to measure it, but my eyeballs and use tell me it's very accurate
th-cam.com/users/shortsCahIMjCrRWY?si=I2VLXoEThUDdwyK8
For pulls on drawers i used the botton end of a empty shotgun shell, just cut the plastic near the brass, take a nail and bump out the soent primer and run a screw thorugh the primer hole....done, nice pull knob
If you would stop pushing the saws into the wood, they'd both do much better.
Stop your bitchin, you're doing a great job. It will be fine. Just keep saying "it will be fine" and it will.
When using the router place a waste piece of wood at the point of exit this will stop any blow out etc and save you having to use fillers 🧐.By the sounds of your problems it seems like it's the perfect time for a BBQ, the weather is great and I suggest you have some 🐓🐔 for your BBQ 🤔🧐. That's most of your problem's solved in one foul 🐔 stroke!!! I really do need to let you know that garage floors are NEVER level, they're designed for water to drain away from the car if it's been out in the rain and then put into one's garage 🫣😳😵💫😵💫. As always buddy 💯% 👍.
🤣🤣🤣 This cracked me up! I think it may be time for a BBQ! Great shout on the scrap piece of wood, didn't cross my mind at the time but makes perfect sense. Cheers mate
😂
Great video again. You’ve done well on this build. It’s good to push yourself every now and again, it really makes you appreciate not having to do it any more once you’ve finished! It does look awesome though.
You've hit the nail on the head there - it's been a great learning process but I'm just happy it's done with now. That's not to say I wouldn't do something like this again, just that it was a really long undertaking and my brain works bettwer with shorter term things!
@@justbswoodworking well the results so far look really good mate. So well done and hopefully the new office and job are going well.
Excellent build! I've never actually seen a level garage floor. When I finished my first workbench, I noticed that it wasn't level. So I trimmed one leg slightly, only to find my new workbench still not level. I knew my measurements were exact when I cut the legs. After a lot more trial and error, I realized that my bench was level depending on the way I positioned it. Turn the bench slightly and watch it wobble.
I should have known because I've had the exact same problem you've had. I understand it can't be level and needs a slope towards the door but you would have thought it would be flattish.
@@justbswoodworking Our water heater is in the garage. If it ever leaks, the water will run out rather than puddle up. So I guess the slope is a good thing.
The list of things you forgot was so short as to make me jealous. Continue one hole? Account for a wonky wall? You did great. I'm looking forward to seeing how this looks when completed. What's next, a Chippendale styled dining set?
🤣🤣 What's next is tidying the garage! I've also got a few pallets and a load of scrap 'ply packaging' that needs using up. I thinking its garage project time!
Everyone needs a larger workshop! I cut larger sheets on chassis stands (sometimes with an old tabletop which can be cut). Saves from back pain. Loved to see that there was only the top veneer in the way, our walls are uneven, too. Maybe much more-and out of angle in every corner. Wish you all the best in your new job and looking forward to seeing your next video.
We certainly do! I annoyed myself because I knew the walls were out but thought I'd allowed for it by making everything a little smaller... not small enough! It got there in the end though. Office is complete and already putting together the next video. Can't wait to show off my creation! Cheers!
